With the House having done virtually nothing but take useless votes to repeal the Affordable Care Act, a group of wingnuts in that chamber finally found something important to do: Adopt a non-binding resolution in favor of Christmas. Next they’ll be adopting a resolution in favor of kind grandmothers. But this is important, don’t you know, because of the “war on Christmas.”
“H.R. 448 is a bipartisan resolution to protect Christmas,” Lamborn explained. “It says that we should, as a country, protect the symbols and traditions of Christmas and not put up with any attempts to ban the symbols and traditions of Christmas.”
According to Fox News, Lamborn’s bill would protect Nativity scenes and singing Christmas carols in public places. It would also ensure that people have the ability to say the word “Christmas.”
“There is a vocal minority that is offended at the rest of us who want to celebrate Christmas,” Lamborn opined. “Just because someone is offended doesn’t mean that they can shut down the religious celebration or acknowledgement of every other American. Then that tramples on the rights of those Americans.”“I am encouraged and inspired by all faith traditions,” the Colorado Republican added. “If someone says to me Happy Hanukkah or something like that, I apply that to my own religion. I’m not offended by that person’s acknowledgement of their religion. And so, we live in a pluralistic society.”
“We need to have more tolerance of the diversity and pluralism of our society.”
Oh yes, of course. That’s why the resolution only “protects” the celebration of Christmas, because of pluralism and diversity. And by “bipartisan” they mean that they found two politically motivated Democrats from very conservative states to put their names on it. Glad they’re doing something productive.
