At the annual Rose Parade on New Year’s Day, one of the floats had a gay couple that got married. Predictably, the bigots absolutely lost their minds over it, demanding a boycott of every sponsor of the parade (as though the sponsors controlled the content of every float). A Facebook group in favor of the boycott had this hilarious status about 12 hours before the parade happened:
This Boycott e page has now exceeded 7,000 likes. One of the posts has over 23,000 views, and most, an average of 20,000. And yet The Tournament of Roses still insists on allowing this homosexual wedding to be conducted on a float during the parade. Shame on them! And shame on them for not making this public early enough so people could avoid buying tickets or making travel plans.
I just realized something. Not only are they now promoting homosexual marriage in over 30 states where it isn’t accepted; they’re doing the same thing via broadcast in countries where they have laws and religious practices that strongly prohibit this. How much worse can this possibly get for them? We should all continue speaking out and making our thoughts known. Please continue using their Contact page to send your message, posting on the https://www.facebook.com/roseparade page, and calling them at (626) 449-4100 or (877) 893-9911. They STILL need to hear from us.
Am I the only one who thinks that sounds like a 12 year old wrote it? “I mean, we totally got 7000 likes on Facebook and they still didn’t cave in to our demands.” But it’s in the comments that the real fun begins. Here’s the very first one:
Why do gays feel the need to intrude into a family oriented celebration?
For crying out loud, they’re creating a family by getting married. There are few things in this country that irritate me more than the use of “family” to mean anti-gay. Gay people come from, have and form families too.
I have been a little home sick for Cali. so I was looking forward to the parade this year. II wont be watching. Too bad people have to insert their sex urges into what used to be family friendly entertainment.
Oh yes, I’m sure they’ll be fucking on the float.
So sad to have my New Years tradition ruined for a political agenda.
Ruined? Merely seeing gay people — worse, gay people in love and celebrating their unions just like you do — ruins your New Year’s? That’s totally rational. And I can’t imagine why anyone would accuse you of being a bigot.
When morals no longer exist then man becomes God, the body becomes the soul and time becomes eternity.
Um. Okay. Thanks for sharing that completely incoherent “thought.”
NOT WATCHING!!! When is the FILTH GOING TO STOP!
Never. Get over it.
We are a Christian family and will not be watching the Rose Parade this year or any year to follow. We choose not to support TV shows and stations or other entities that promote Gay/Lesbian couples. It’s as ridiculous as giving drug dealers and rapists an award for their achievements!
And I bet this person absolutely freaks out when you call her a bigot. “I don’t hate gays! But they’re just like drug dealers and rapists and I refuse to view anything that even acknowledges their existence.” Nah, not bigoted at all.
