Fischer: Jail the Gays Because I love Black Men

Not since Jerry Maguire screamed “I love the black man!” into a telephone has a more implausible declaration of racial amour been heard than the one offered by Bryan Fischer, who says we must make homosexuality illegal because he just loves black men so much.

“This is black genocide,” he said.

“Let me put it bluntly,” Fischer declared. “If you are for the legalization of homosexuality, you are for the acceptability of homosexuality, you are for the normalization of homosexuality, you do not care about black males. You have no compassion in your black heart for black males because they’re being decimated by HIV/AIDS … So why am I opposed to the normalization of homosexual behavior? Because I love black males. I want black males to live long, prosperous, healthy, disease-free lives.”

I’m fascinated by the right wing delusion that if they just punish gay people enough, people will just stop being gay. They really do think that people become gay because it looks so alluring and fun to them that it’s necessary to discriminate against them and put them in jail or force them into “therapy” in order to dissuade others from jumping on the big gay bandwagon.

You know one of the reasons why HIV has spread more rapidly among young gay black men? Stigma. It makes them less likely to get tested and most transmission of HIV come from those who don’t know they have it.

To be fair, a big gay bandwagon sounds pretty appealing.

@2 The big gay bandwagon was one of the most popular in the parade of sexual anarchy.

Isn’t Bryan Fischer an AIDS-denialist? How can Fischer claim AIDS doesn’t exists (except as a way for evil Marxist scientists to get research money) and then talk about how he worries about black men with AIDS?

In the same way that a Catholic Priest can damn his hapless congregation for their sexuality in the privacy of their own bedroom and at the same time curse and condemn to hell the sexuality of those who are different then fiddle with a young choir boy behind the alter after the sermon!

In other words…when it suits…and that is all!

I rue the day, when Fischer’s sexual fetish become public knowledge. Fischer is going to make that minister who was found in two wet-suits with a dido shoved up his ass, look like Wally from Leave It to Beaver.

If you are for the legalization of homosexuality…

As far as I know, it’s not illegal in any US state. So, how could it be legalized?

It’s a common theme with the far right. Punish the poor and they’ll stop being poor. Punish single moms and women will stop having babies out of wedlock.

Punish the non-conformists and they’ll start to conform. Or at least they’ll understand their place.

You know one of the reasons why HIV has spread more rapidly among young gay black men?

Another reason is the greater use of injectable drugs like heroin in the Afro-American community.

  • cptdoom

The stigma in minority communities regarding being gay is so well-known that the CDC created the category of MSM – men who have sex with men – precisely because so many minority men would not identify as gay, even while they may be exclusively involved with other men.

Clearly Bryan wants to reduce the competition for all that chocolate-flavoured loving.

SLC – the CDC fact sheet (which can be downloaded fromhere) seems to suggest that MSM is a far more significant route for AIDS/HIV infection than IV drug use even amongst black males.

In 2010 it was estimated that of all new AIDS/HIV infections:

    63% were MSM only

8% were IV drug users only

3% were both MSM and IV drug users

The estimated new infection rate (per 100000) in 2010:

    MALES

    103.6 Black

    45.5 Hispanic

    15.8 White

    FEMALES

    38.1 Black

    8.0 Hispanic

    1.9 White

Well, seriously. Is it really surprising that misogynists would consider a life with no women to be ideal?

  • quiddity42

If you go to the CDC fact sheet he referenced, it actually says blacks are more likely to get tested.

“Despite these numbers, there are encouraging signs of progress against HIV in the black community. Blacks are more likely than other races and ethnicities to report that they have been tested for HIV at least once—65% versus 46% for Hispanics/Latinos and 41% for whites.”

    Area Man @8,

Or at least they’ll understand their place.

I think that for a lot of these folks, keeping a pecking order is more important than actually changing how others live. Without someone’s neck to stand on, how will the “best” people demonstrate their specialness?

As a standard right-winger, Fischer doesn’t usually seem to give much of a shit about Black people at all. Any *concern* he is expressing now it just so he can pretend to score a point against another group.

    smrnda@17:

That’s another common theme on the right these days: Pretend concern over the plight of African Americans. They pretend to care about the high incidence of black-on-black crime, but only to distract away from cases like the death of Trayvon Martin. Pretend to be concerned about the high incidence of out of wedlock births among African Americans, but only so that they can condemn single mothers. Pretend to care about the unemployment rate among blacks, but only so that they can attack Obama for “failing” them* and attacking black voters for supporting him.

*Oddly enough, they also attack Obama for supposedly seeking “reparations” for slavery, even when he’s doing nothing of the kind.

  • Crip Dyke, Right Reverend Feminist FuckToy of Death & Her Handmaiden

If Fischer cared about black men, he might just note the role of heterosexuality and religion in black men’s seroconversion.

It’s not odd. Everything Obama Does is Wrong (even if he does the opposite or does nothing at all).

So, is my heart African-American or are the males he speaks of evil? I’m confused.

@4: My understand is Bryan Fischer isn’t an AIDS denialist per se. He does think AIDS exists. He just says it isn’t caused by HIV, but by injectable drugs, so his statement still makes no sense.

AIDS denialism, like most forms of denialism, lacks consistency and coherency. Some say that AIDS exists but HIV is a fiction, some say that HIV exists but AIDS is a fiction, some say that both exist but are irrelevant to each other, etc.

They really do think that people become gay because it looks so alluring…

    .

Yeah, fundies have no understanding of themselves, so naturally they do not understand people who are different from them.

    .

They think someone can choose to believe something.*

They think that someone can choose their likes and dislikes.*

    .

Yet they think they have no control over their own behavior (unless it’s convenient to say otherwise) because humans are basically depraved.

    .

    * Yes, one can alter one’s own beliefs or preferences – sometimes – indirectly. Learning more about a subject, for instance, might lead to your changing your mind on an issue, or developing new preferences.
