Limbaugh: Straight People ‘Under Assault’ by Gay People

Rush Limbaugh, who spent a season being an embarrassment on Monday Night Football, has weighed in on the Michael Sam story. TL;DR: He doesn’t like it. Because it means straight people are “under assault” by gay people who actually think they have a right to exist or something.

LIMBAUGH: Heterosexuality has no political agenda and there is no agenda attached to it. Heterosexuality does not have activists. Don’t, don’t — you’re wrong, Snerdly, Snerdly — but they’re under assault. Heteros–you say heterosexuality may be 95, 98 percent of the population — they’re under assault by the 2-5 percent that are homosexual. So why — I’m just asking, I’m just throwing it out there — why is there a political agenda attached to and driven by homosexuality and there is no corresponding heterosexual agenda? Forget minority versus majority. That’s not what I have in mind here, and it’s not because a minority must do what it has to do to overcome a majority because that’s not the answer. OK cool, good, that’s wrong too. I got people shouting what they think in my ear. They’re all going to be wrong. OK, let me keep going. Why is it OK now for a gay man to play football? I thought it was dangerous and leads to concussions, that it was barbaric. I thought that it was too dangerous and leads to Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s and early death, suicide, but yet, but yet, here comes the first announced gay guy and ‘hey cool, man, go for it!’ Why is it heroic for a gay man to play football? I’m just positing these questions, because there is an answer to all of these questions. And the answer is key and fundamental to understanding. Folks, you would not believe, this is why, you know you ask me all the time, how come we can’t hear these people talking to you? Because of what’s happening right now. Ihave got more people shouting, ‘because the media wants a gay football player to succeed.’ OK, that’s — why is a gay man playing football heroic? ‘Because the media wants a gay player to succeed.’ OK, you’re halfway there. Why does the media want a gay player to succeed?

Funny, I’m heterosexual and I don’t feel the least bit “under assault.” Except by authoritarians and theocrats who think their religious beliefs justify discrimination and a denial of equal rights to people they find icky. The entire country, and the entire notion of equality, is under assault by those people.

He is the absolute master of JAQing off. “I’m just asking questions”, the fuck you are, you disingenuous fuck.

you know you ask me all the time, how come we can’t hear these people talking to you?

Frankly, Rush, I don’t want to hear the voices in your head.

Really, he will say any stupid, prejudiced, hatful thing as long as it gets him attention and ratings. If only the dittoheads knew and could understand just how much he is countining on and using their stupidity to make himself rich while laughing at them behind their backs.

He clearly can’t conceive of the idea that advocacy groups only tend to be created for disadvantaged, traditionally-subordinate classes. One could make an advocacy group for an advantaged, traditionally-dominant class, but that leads to the question of why one would want to do that. I tend to think answer is found in the fact that those wanting to make these strange white-pride, or straight-pride groups are trying to keep their culture from changing, and somehow making these strange symmetrical social structures that don’t mesh with with the culture the same way is an argument. But just how that argument works in their heads is still alien to me.

Then he follows up with mixing up completely different sorts of advocacy like they are the same group.

One of the basic strategies of authoritarians is to maintain as much ignorance about what other groups of people are really like, and only depend on the words of fellow conservatives as evidence. Hopefully the internet will make this easier and easier to fight because the information is easier to point than ever.

Limbaugh: idiotic Teabagger religious-right Straight People who make up an absolute tiny minority of the total American population, feel that they might possibly be vaguely ‘Under Assault’ by Gay People (but they can’t, in any way, prove it).

Heterosexuality has no political agenda and there is no agenda attached to it.

When I read this, I laughed so hard I choked on a banana.

Also, when gay people are under assault by straight people, nobody uses scare quotes, because it’s actual literal assault.

“Heteros–you say heterosexuality may be 95, 98 percent of the population — they’re under assault by the 2-5 percent that are homosexual.”

Why does everyone seem to think bisexuals don’t exist?

“Why is it OK now for a gay man to play football? I thought it was dangerous and leads to concussions, that it was barbaric.”

Yeah, a lot of liberals don’t like football or at least the lack of concern for players’ safety and a lot of liberals don’t like war. But homosexuals can be football players and soldiers because they’re not all the same person and they certainly aren’t all liberal.

I can see Rushbo belonging to BRRRAPP, Bigoted ReiKKKWing Reactionary RepubliKKKant Apparatchik Pundit Pissants–an organization devoted to supporting the poor, put-upon Radionazi assholes of MurKKKa.

I know, I know; if you say it fast, it sounds like, well, it sounds like someone passin’ gas or being a Radionazi a-hole.

    What the fuck… I don’t even…

Is that even an actual language that he’s speaking?

Not even close. Re the advocacy groups influencing public policy coming from the various business sectors, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the NRA, social conservative movements, the Koch brothers, Israel’s Zionists, etc., etc., etc.

I would really, Really, REALLY enjoy beating the shit out of Rushbo (which exercise would leave a cigar and some large clothes on the floor), does that make ME teh GAY?

    @9:

Well, Michael Heath, they’re not really “Advocacy groups” as they are “Policy/program planning partners”, expeshly the NRA and ALEC.

Totally, 100% backwards. Advocacy groups for dominant, traditionally-advantaged groups are everywhere and always. Their so common that they are considered the norm, while the existence of a single advocacy group for the disadvantaged is considered “an assault on traditional values” and/or “class warfare.”

Does this mean he’s taking a break from staring at Mrs. Obama’s behind?

Wow, that was utterly incoherent. I think the voices Rush is hearing are inside his head.

To be fair, Rush’s fans would love to see teh gheys in uniform.

Yeah, and while you’re at it, explain why you support the teaching of evolution over creationism. Forget science and evidence, that’s not what I have in mind here.

Based on that babble, I’m wondering if you have a mind at all.

  • Moggie

He’s right, Michael Sam does have a sinister agenda, and, thanks to some sleuthing, I can exclusively reveal what it is. Brace yourself, because this will shock you!

    My agenda, by Michael Sam:

    1. Play football.

    2. Get paid for it.

    3. Not hide.

Hmm, now that I see that written down it somehow doesn’t seem quite so sinister. Maybe there was another page?

  • tbell

I love the implicit assumption that the only ones advocating for equality are LGBT. No straight folks want this too. Nope, none at all.

  • zmidponk

As a heterosexual person, I do feel under assault – by people like Limbaugh who keep rabidly frothing on about how I should find other forms of sexuality loathsome and sinful, when the whole idea of that just seems totally absurd to me.

  • freehand

Most of the talking heads from the right are, I think, sincerely mean-spirited idiots. I get the impression that Rush knows exactly what he’s doing. He holds his own fans in contempt, but they still pay him to express smug hatred for various politically disenfranchised groups.

    .

A couple of people at work have this idiot or the station he’s on locally playing at high volume in their offices. If I come in to work on their computers, I usually take them away just so I can work on them in peace. His loud and relentless vitriol makes my teeth rattle and my stomach twist into knots.

Don’t be silly; that makes you violent.

    .

I would never say anything like that. That’s because I’m discreet.

  • matty1

I was going to call him names but then I realised there is no worse insult than referring to him as a Rush LImbaugh, which seems a little redundant.

    @Michael Heath 9, lofgren 14

Ouch. Yeah I did not really think that one through. I had the legal concept of “suspect classes” and the sorts of advocacy groups they would create in my head and tried to translate it into something more broadly appreciable. I failed on that account.
