Liberty Counsel Wants Obama Impeached

Liberty Counsel has launched a campaign to get the House of Representatives to bring articles of impeachment against President Obama, saying that a failure to do will result in America becoming a “a godless, socialist nation.” Here’s their pitch:

We, the People of the United States of America, demand that the United States House of Representatives draft Articles of Impeachment against President Barack H. Obama for failure to adhere to the authority and rule of law, and for open oppression of our liberties, as defined by the Constitution of the United States of America and its Bill of Rights.

Join us today in our call for Articles of Impeachment against President Obama! Go here to read and sign our petition.

In my nearly three decades of work in the legal field specializing in constitutional law, I have NEVER witnessed a more blatant and consistent disregard for the Constitution as we have seen from this President and his administration!

As I have often said, today’s patriotic Americans are facing more oppression from civil government than did the colonial generation!…

The President’s abuses have brought us to the point that the People can no longer tolerate his subversion of the Constitution or his willful violations of his Oath of Office. Nearly 25,000 friends of Liberty Counsel Action have already signed the call to draft the Articles of Impeachment. I urge you to join with us today to send a powerful message to Capitol Hill…

Together, we can stop this tyranny before President Obama and his “progressive” supporters succeed in remaking the United States of America into a godless, socialist nation!

I call this a pitch because that’s exactly what it is. They know that there aren’t gonna be any articles of impeachment, and if there were they have no chance of winning in the Senate. This is political theater and a way to get more people to sign up for their mailing list and send them money.

You would think if these terrible acts were so blatant they could name at least one. What do they think the charges will be “presiding while black”, “winning elections against the Republican party”, “having a funny name”?

  • matty1

There is also an excellent point made in the comments that wingnuts are not terribly reliable in their numerical statements, as shown by the millions who join their protests. So if they say 25,000 people have signed the actual number may be closer to 2.5.

I can just imagine the level of cray-cray that these people will ascend to when we have another Clinton in the White House. Which would they deem worse: a black man or a white woman?

  • Trebuchet

@Matty1: Obamacare. He blatantly violated the Holy Constitution by signing a bill that was passed by both houses of Congress. Plus what you said.

“In my nearly three decades of work in the legal field specializing in constitutional law…”

I’ve won 25,000 cases (well OK, 2 cases – and a dismissal because a witness failed to show up due to food poisoning).but the point is three decades in constitutional law (Well OK, three weeks ….)

It’s Constable Savage from Not the Nine O’clock News! So many things they could charge him with. “Urinating in a public convenience.” “Driving while under the influence of Haile Selassie.” “Smelling of foreign food.” And of course “Possession of curly black hair and thick lips.”

  • Synfandel

The US would be a lot better off if it became a “a godless, socialist nation.”

  • rationalinks

In a way they do kind of have a point….but probably not the point they were thinking. This presidency has been marred by human rights violations both domestic and abroad; A serious lack of transparency, renewing the ill-named Patriot Act, keeping Gitmo open, going after whistle blowers, the list goes on and on. Obama had a golden opportunity to really right this ship and make a great impact on this country…and he’s failed miserably in that regard. I don’t think these are impeachable offenses since many of them were started by the previous administration, but we definitely shouldn’t just sweep them under the rug.

On a side note…I’d love to see America become godless and Socialist. Bring it on!

Barak Obama: still only one indictable offense away from impeachment

  • http://www.facebook.com/den.wilson d.c.wilson

    Rationlinks@8:

Everything the right cries about in their poutrage is the result of Obama continuing practices and policies started by previous presidents and it was all stuff they cheered for when it was their guy who was doing it.

And if they really cared about curbing those practices, they could by having the House pass a bill to limit them. Even if the Senate refused to vote on it or Obama vetoed it, they could at least have gotten the debate going. But they’d rather hold the 42nd vote to repeal Obamacare.

If any citizen can petition for impeachment of a federal official, I’ve got a little list. (They never will be missed.)

He must have been asleep during the last Bush administration.

Are we ready for President Joe Biden? He is next in line after Obama.

    d.c.wilson@11

I completely agree. tribalism at its finest. Is it too much to ask to get a President that actually, you know, cares about this country? I know, I know…wishful thinking.

  • dugglebogey

Didn’t they screw themselves to the wall by impeaching Bill Clinton? Because now they are going to have to come up with a specific illegal act that Obama has performed that they can’t point to.

    Liberty Counsel starts off:

We, the People of the United States of America . . .

    They can’t not lie.

Do conservative Christians have any unique arguments or positions that rely only on factually true premises? Or to the lower bar below mediocrity, mostly true premises? I don’t know of any by either standard, perhaps some exist, but I don’t recall any.

Of course it’s a pitch, but that’s a mutually exclusive position relative to their grip on reality. All the evidence I observe has me concluding they’re not smart enough and sane enough to know better. They’re idiotic enough and insane enough to believe the crap they assert.

Isn’t the government officially barred from taking a position on whether we are a godless or a godly nation? I’m pretty sure that Article VI specifically prohibits him from being impeached for godlessness.

  • D. C. Sessions

There are no Constitutional restrictions on what the House of Representatives can use as a basis for impeachment. Or at least, none beyond what can be sold to a majority of the House. As for whether the Bill of Impeachment would draw the requisite supermajority in the the Senate, that’s a different question — but it’s still not subject to appeal to any body other than the Senate itself.

The proceedings are not subject to judicial review. The courts are generally reluctant to get involved in disputes between the Legislative and Administrative branches anyway, but where the process is spelled out in the Constitution and the courts are left out? Perfect excuse for keeping hands off (other than the Chief Justice presiding over the trial in the Senate.)

  • Artor

I can only wish that the US could become a godless, socialized nation. But the idea that Obama will do anything to move us in that direction requires a delusional detachment from reality so severe, I can’t get there no matter how many drugs I take. WTF is Liberty Council taking? I don’t think I’d like to try it.

Together, we can stop this tyranny before President Obama and his “progressive” supporters succeed in remaking the United States of America into a godless, socialist nation!

Those “progressive” supporters: Are they referring to the more than 69 million voters who selected Obama in 2008 or the more than 65 million voters who selected him in 2012.

… I have NEVER witnessed a more blatant and consistent disregard for the Constitution as we have seen from this President and his administration!

Wow! Liberty Counsel wants Barack Obama impeached for his “tyranny”! What a brave group of true patriots!

Indeed, we should impeach the man before he and the nation’s “progressive” [their quotation marks] voters turn this country “into a godless, socialist nation!” I mean, we all know well and good how deeply concerned the founding fathers were with ensuring the United States was and would always remain a Christian country. And just look at how Christians are being oppressed by Tyrant Obama the Muslim Extremist and his Merry Band of Pagan Followers!

    (back to reality)

What a group of idiots. The author of this travesty of a campaign claims 30 years of practicing constitutional law. Given that he clearly does not understand The United States Constitution, why is he still a member of the bar?

That’s a classical argumentum ad Agent Larabee.

  • zippythepinhead

Isn’t it weird that with all this talk of abuse of power and ignoring the constitution, that they never mention a single specific instance, i.e., a specific “high crime or misdemeanor”? Does anyone here believe if there was an actual impeachable offense, the House would even hesitate to at least hold hearings on the subject?

As I’ve said before, Obama is just ONE impeachable offense away from impeachment. Oh, oh, oh, so very close.

  • felidae

I guess they want to impeach him for war crimes and starting an illegal war–oops, wrong president

  • http://www.facebook.com/den.wilson d.c.wilson

    D. C. Sessions: Technically, the House is supposed to only impeach someone for “Treason, High Crimes, and Misdemeanors” but since those last two terms are left undefined in the Constitution, they really mean whatever a majority in the House says them mean.

  • dogmeat

I would agree that there are things that president Obama has done that would arguably warrant impeachment. Of course I seriously doubt that my list would be the same as theirs, and the things he could legitimately be impeached for are things that the last five or six presidents all did as well which cuts rather deeply into that whole “legitimately” argument given that they weren’t impeached.

  • sharonb

Anyone notice that the wingnuts are now constantly referring to themselves as “WeThePeople?” I note that it implies that ~everyone~ is in agreement with them, and no dissent needed or tolerated. Oh, and also – an inherent claim that they are the True Constitutional Ones, and if you disagree, then you are just un-American.

I think some “WeThePeople” talking point must have been circulated on Planet Wingnuttia.

How about imagining their response if Hilary Clinton gets in then whilst in office divorces Bill and marries a black man?

Or, even better marries a black woman!

(Bit rough on Bill Clinton but then you couldn’t exactly blame her given his past treatment of her.)
