Camenker: Gay, Nazi, Stalin, Pol Pot, Blah Blah Blah

Even by the bigoted standards of the Christian right, Brian Camenker is shockingly homophobic, coming close to Scott Lively and Fred Phelps territory. On Vic Eliason’s radio show he had this exchange with a caller. You’ve heard it before — Hitler, Stalin, Pol Pot, Chairman Mao, reeducation camps.

Camenker: You think of what it must have been like in Europe in the 1930s or in the communist countries in the 1920s or in Mao’s communist China or Cambodia where just complete madness was reigning and large numbers of people were part of it. This is what it must have been like where you had complete insanity going on and people buy into it.

Eliason: I mean Massachusetts apparently has an official state GLBT commission. Is that correct?

Camenker: Yes it does.

Caller: Those of us who are heterosexual and/or ex-gay need to come out and have some ‘Heterosexual Pride Parades’ and so forth. I was listening to a talk show on the radio driving home last night and they brought up the Michael Sam situation. All four panelists were pro-homosexual, not one conservative or Christian or opposing viewpoint allowed. I had to stop listening to it. You know, North Korea used to use reeducation camps, China too during the Cultural Revolution. We have that, I’m a nurse and I know what it’s called, it’s called diversity and tolerance training. It’s cultural Marxism pure and simple.

Camenker: I think you’re right, I think you’re absolutely right on all of those points. Believe me, I’ve seen it myself. You are one hundred percent correct.

I don’t know how someone lives being that utterly disconnected from reality at all times.

as stephen colbert once said “reality has a well known liberal bias”

    The easy money helps.

Fundies are like Pavlov’s dogs. Some vaguely humanoid toad leader shoots out hate with a firehouse. They toss money at them.

The best Pavlov’s like Beck and Robertson are worth hundreds of millions of dollars.

This Brian Camenker fellow is not only gay and a nazi, he’s also under a delusion that he is (a re-incarnation) of Stalin AND Pol Pot (and more)?

Busy (and very confused) guy! Has been to therapy?

So the worst kind of persecution is being asked not to persecute other people?

I can’t understand why hetero men would ever object to gay men…

I mean here you are a hetero and of course you’re interested in women, so If you know that some other guy isn’t interested in women, surely you should think ‘Good for you! Go for it!! Have fun!”

    Or am I missing something.

Those of us who are heterosexual and/or ex-gay….

At least he recognizes that those are two different things.

And now, ladies and gentlemen, the World’s Most Boring Parade!*

My theory* is that they are imagining being viewed by other men the way they themselves view women, and they find the thought absolutely horrifying**.

    * which belongs to me. “Theory” used in the purely colloquial sense here.

** or strangely exciting, which they find even more horrifying.

Ah, cognitive dissonance and the unconscious need to eradicate it; the bane of all denialists. It’s cuter when they act out as if they’re confronting facts inconvenient to their beliefs but actually don’t.

That’s an excellent summary of much of the output from the fundies.

“Don’t confuse me with facts, my mind’s made up!” All this guy wants to hear is something that affirms his biases.

Except for Gay Pride parades, every parade is a Hetero Pride parade.

  • gopiballava

I might be interested in a straight pride parade when straight people discriminate less against gay people. Ending anti-gay discrimination would be something to be proud of.

  • busterggi

I find it fascinating that all the dictators & genocidal governments that the Religious Reich likes to use as bad examples generally have the same discrimination policies that they do. They probably don’t even recognise themselves when they look in a mirror.

Now ask yourself how a heterosexual rapist might react to a gay rapist.

This works strangely well not only when it comes to LGBT issues, but the entire “Men’s Rights Movement” as well. Everywhere they say “men”, replace it with “rapist” and suddenly everything they say starts to come into focus. I’m sure it’s not a coincidence: we’re talking about people who have real problems accepting a consent-based sexual ethic rather than an authority-based one.

  • jnorris

In reality, not that the Talibangelicals know what that is, is there any reason those people do not have a Heterosexual Pride Parade in one of their fortress states like Kansas or Arizona?

At the end of the parade they could have Viking Jesus riding a donkey float.

  • John Pieret

Nazi, Stalin, Pol Pot, Blah Blah Blah

Few people know that Prince Blah Blah Blah was the worst of the lot. Most famous for his Kyrgyzstani Stupidity Torture, where people were chained to a bed in a small room while an endless loop of Bryan Fischer radio shows was piped in at 100 decibels, he was forced to flee his native country while under indictment by the World Court for crimes against humanity. He is believed to be seeking assylum in Idaho.

  • freehand

DaveL – I like that. I have understood for some time that these folks have an authoritarian-based ethical system rather than consent-based. But replacing “rapist” for “man” does indeed clarify what is really being said, and reveals their thinking clearly. Long ago I found it much easier to understand my reaction to news articles if I swapped roles, e.g. “black” for “white”, or “male” for “female”. I was told back in the sixties that it would be appropriate to cal someone a girl if I would call her a boy if the gender only were different. I found it educational at times to expand that practice.

    .

But swapping rapist for male in issues of sexual politics is enlightening. Watch for the right wing loons, generally clueless about themselves and language, to try and fail at playing the same game should this catch on, swapping “child molester” for “liberal”, or …well, they already do that with “Nazi” and “gay activist”, don’t they? Clueless idiots.

  • freehand

DaveL – to expand on that a bit, these people think of a rapist not as someone who forces unwanted sexual behavior on somebody (i.e. has sex without permission), but rather as someone who has sex without permission from, or even disobeying, somebody with appropriate authority (e.g. the woman’s owner husband or God or the king).

Yeah I had “sensitivity training” recently. It was too early and the coffee wasn’t really that great. I bet that’s exactly what a north Korean “reeducation” camp for political prisoners is like.
