“Coach” Dave Daubenmire is good at affecting a disingenuous cluelessness. He’s just mystified, baffled by why his old high school didn’t hire him to be their new football coach. He simply can’t imagine what it was that led the school board to decide not to hire him.
In a letter following the meeting, Daubenmire wrote that board president Judy White had an “agenda all along” to make sure he wasn’t hired.
The meeting was “nothing short of a public flogging of me because I dared to call homosexuality a sin,” he wrote.
“Mrs. White should be ashamed of herself. What she did was a great disservice to the Lakewood community and to my family in particular. (Board members) Bill Gulick, my high school classmate, and Trisha Good are complicit in the public execution of our family name.”
Daubenmire hasn’t confronted the school board, but he would like an explanation, he said.
“What is it that disqualifies me from coaching a football team?” he asked. “Don’t I deserve an explanation? Don’t those who came in support of me deserve an explanation why I was not hired as football coach?”
Gee Dave, maybe it’s the fact that your actions the first time you coached a high school football team violated the constitution and resulted in a lawsuit that cost the school money? And the second time, you were fired from even a Christian school and then complained that they just weren’t Christian enough for you. And that you learned nothing from those experiences, proclaiming that if you’d gotten this job you were going to “carry Him in the front door” because we “need to get God back into our schools.” Ya think maybe that was the reason?
