Rosenberg’s Boogeyman is Going to Punish Us

Joel Rosenberg, former Rush Limbaugh research assistant turned end times novelist, went on the 700 Club and told Pat Robertson that God is going to punish America for abortion just like he punished Nazi Germany. Wait, he punished Nazi Germany? I thought the allied armies did that. Funny how God always seems to work in ways so “mysterious” that they are indistinguishable from the actions of real people. And couldn’t he have punished them before they slaughtered millions of his “chosen people”?

    Rush Limbaugh research assistant

I’m sorry you lost me here. I know what each of the words mean I just don’t understand how they go together.

But it’s so much more satisfying to let evildoers commit their crimes & then punish them. This idea, although never expressed openly, is at the core of the harsh, punitive, authoritarian moral code of fundamentalist religion.

Well, to be fair, occasionally God acts in ways indistinguishable from random natural events, instead. Those are some of Robertson’s favorites.

  • Alverant

I thought the Nazis banned abortion and executed any doctors who performed one. So does that mean God is pro-choice? I guess even Limpy has standards when it comes to quality of research.

Do you believe God makes you breathe?

Why did he lose six million Jews?

@4 Of course he has standards, any research is rigorously vetted to make sure no true statements make it through. Actually I assume he is an ex research assistant because he left to write a book rather than being fired for getting stuff wrong.

I was going to try to say something like this but you just said it better.

It’s surprising how much God resembles an abusive spouse or parent. Allowing a transgression to continue in order to make sure it’s appropriate to punish it with extreme violence is I believe a popular tactic of the sadistic. “Ok, now you deserve this.”

I always liked this line from “Apocalypse Now”, but I never thought of it as coming from God:

As it is my present duties keep me where I belong – in the rear with the gear.

  • emc2

    Taz,

Actually, I think that was from “Full Metal Jacket.” /pedant

And couldn’t he have punished them before they slaughtered millions of his “chosen people”?

I think the most common handwave for that among Evangelicals is that he could of course have, but that the holocaust needed to happen to get the jews moving back to Israel in time for the second coming, or something along those lines. “Miraculous” working indeed…

I am continually amazed that belevers think that this universe, this reality, is the best that their deity can create. Now, if you believe the deity is half-assing it or just winging it as he/she/it goes, then this reality is more plausible; but who wants to pray to that deity?

    @11:

Okay, smart guy, now you’ve gone and hurted GOD’s feelings; nice, way to go, meany! He’s been catching shit from all of the other deities since Katrina and you are NOT helping HIM to work on his issues!

  • Taz

    emc2 – You’re right. Brain cramp.

This is the exact attitude that forces God to go all global flood on us. Thanks for exposing us once again to His wrath.

Son of a bitch, my bad. That’s on me.
