A teacher at Parkersburg South High School in West Virginia has been suspended after attacking and mocking the Gay-Straight Alliance club at his school and comparing them to drug users and drunks. And he is apparently using that as a platform to go into politics. Here’s what he said on his Facebook page:
Alongside a flier announcing a meeting of the Parkersburg South High School Gay-Straight Alliance, Foggin wrote, “Club meeting at PSHS!! Rally around them and show ur support. We are also considering a drunks-t totaller [sic] club, drugged/sober club, smokeless tobacco vs smokes club, street racing, and deer poaching clubs. Please donate and support us. Thank u!!! I think I hear the drag already zinging.”
And now, he’s running for sheriff:
Foggin, who on Monday declined to comment on his original post, posted a cryptic message on his Facebook page Tuesday, claiming he planned to run for sheriff in 2020.
“I love everyone and I promote fairness and equality,” he said on Facebook. “I have difficulty with favoritism and bias given any person or group.”
Uh, what? Where is the favoritism here, exactly? The GSA club has exactly the same right as every other student club at the school. The only bias here is your bias against them, which you use as an excuse to mock and criticize kids who are almost certainly students in your class, for crying out loud.
Foggin then went on to talk about protecting the First Amendment, the right to free speech, through use of the Second Amendment, the right to bear arms.
“Love you all. Get a concealed carry permit while u still can. Protect urself and ur(sic) family. Thank God for every breath he give u!!(sic)”
Bigotry? Bad arguments? Crappy writing skills? Turning everything into a gun rights issue? Yep, another wingnut star is born.
