Schlichter: Democrats Will Go Full Atheist Soon

Kurt Schlichter, whose very first credit on his bio is that he was “personally recruited to write conservative commentary by Andrew Breitbart” (not terribly impressive, I’m afraid) writes at Townhall.com that by 2024, the Democratic Party will be officially atheist. The column is pretty much the God’s Not Dead movie, or a Chick tract, turned into a bit of hackneyed political commentary.

Democrats are waging war on the faithful and are even comfortable booing God on national TV. Give it three more presidential election cycles and the Democrat Party’s platform will be expressly antireligious.

Today, they still pretend not to hate the concept of faith or hold those who have it in contempt. You’ll see Hillary hitting plenty of black churches in 2016 – after all, that condescending empty suit is in no ways tired. But otherwise, Democrats are delighting in their opportunity to burden, harass and humiliate the believing. They use Obamacare to try to force the faithful to breach their consciences. They demand that believers be silent or lose their livelihoods. Their liberal academic flunkies do everything possible to marginalize those of us who feel that life must mean more than dreary obedience to liberal orthodoxy.

They are getting closer to outright admitting what we all know they really think. Part of it is fashion – boutique atheism is trendy. Part of it is snobbery – the same people who think socialism is a viable system like to look down on others for believing in “fantasies.” But mostly, liberals worship Government and don’t like the competition.

It’s important to distinguish between regular atheists and the militant liberal atheists. There are plenty of conservative atheists who don’t feel a connection to God but share conservative values. The Democrats are militant atheists. They are atheists because they imagine they are smarter and wiser than people like Isaac Newton, Abraham Lincoln, Dr. Martin Luther King, and about 85% of the rest of America.

They are proud believers in “Science.” That’s different from science. Science is the one where you take evidence and draw conclusions from it. “Science” is the one where you figure out what gives liberals the most power and shriek at anyone who dissents. This explains how the “Science” is settled that cold weather proves global warming.

Let us count the tired cliches that substitute for actual thought for people like Schlichter:

1. They’re persecuting Christians!

2. They hate all religious people!

3. They think they’re sooooo smart.

4. Really smart people have believed in God too!

5. They’re all commies!

6. Science sucks whenever it contradicts what we’d like to believe.

Wow Kurt, you make such a compelling argument. He goes on to add:

7. They don’t believe in God so they can go on sinning. And,

8. They go to alla them eeelite universities and get their fancy shmancy degrees.

This is a game of paint-by-numbers rhetoric, how to appeal to the dumbest things your readers think about your enemies in five easy steps.

It’s like these guys have a checklist of platitudes and buzzwords to use before they write every column.

  • http://www.holytape.etsy.com holytape

Kurt Schlichter also mentioned that the democratic presidential candidate in 2024 will be a werewolf, not the sexy shirtless kind, but baby-eating kind.

It looks like Schlichter is going…*sunglasses*…full retard.

    YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!!

    Sorry, I couldn’t resist.

  • dugglebogey

From your words to ummmm….nobody’s ears.

and are even comfortable booing God on national TV

HOLY FUCK GOD WAS ON NATIONAL TV AND I MISSED IT?!?!?

  • dugglebogey

Wait, I think the phrase I’m trying to copy is “From your lips to god’s ears.” Being an atheist, I suck and stupid religious sayings.

  • brucegee1962

As a long-time former Christian Liberal, I think this is one of the things that hacks me off about the Repubs the most. They simply deny that there can be any Christian who is also a Liberal. They’re invisible or something.

Mind you, Christian Liberals do a terrible job promoting themselves. The cry of the Christian Conservative is “God is on my side!” while the cry of the Christian Liberal is “Of course, there are plenty of good points being made by those who disagree with me…”

  • Chiroptera

    …boutique atheism is trendy.

    lol

It’s almost as if they are deliberately trying to get themselves shown on the Daily Show.

Ok, this one is NOT a tired cliche. A hat tip to “conservative atheists?” Regular atheists. Plenty of them. They’re okay.

I wonder where the hell that came from. I’m not saying that there aren’t any conservative atheists, or that there aren’t plenty of them. I’m saying that it’s kinda strange that this guy isn’t going Full Chick.

“personally recruited to write conservative commentary by Andrew Breitbart” (not terribly impressive, I’m afraid)

It is if what you are looking for is stupid and dishonest.

This explains how the “Science” is settled that cold weather proves global warming.

But scientists will explain to you why a warming climate can cause cold weather in some places but not in others (2013-2014 was in top ten coldest in the midwest; California had its warmest winter since records have been kept and Alaska had one of its top ten warmest). Can morons like you explain how a cold winter in the midwest and a warm winter in Alaska disproves climate warming?

No mention of “Family” and/ or the Homosexual Agenda™?

Damn, I was thissss close to full Bingo!

You just described the vast majority of articles on Townhall. Rarely does one need to go past the first paragraph to be struck dumb by the DUMB. And keep in mind as you peruse this lunacy that these are mainstream Republicans. The smarter ones. Really.

  • shallit

When you’re listing cliches, don’t forget “militant atheist”. That’s one of the oldest ones there.

So, what, about 15 % of the population, if that identify as atheists and some fraction less than that accounts for “militant atheists” that make up the Democratic Party which is about 45-51% of those who identify as belonging to a party( the larger part of the population identifies with a party IIRC). 1. Nope , math is not their friend and 2. No godless conversion is coming anytime too soon (though I’d like to see that)…although from this quote it’s also implied that that militant Dem party is intolerant of Christians and Conservatives have room in their big tent for atheists. Riiiigggghhhht. That concept went well for David Silverman at CPAC.

I agree, but, unfortunately, it seems to be extremely difficult for an open atheist to get elected to public office in the US.

Isaac Newton was not a Christian. Abraham Lincoln was, at best, a nominal Christian. Andrew Breitbart was also not a Christian.

Anthony K “HOLY FUCK GOD WAS ON NATIONAL TV AND I MISSED IT?!?!?”

Sort of. At the 2012 convention “…the hall burst into chaos as Democrats voted to amend their party’s platform to include the word ‘God’ and name Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.”. If memory serves, the vote was rigged, too.

Sastra “Ok, this one is NOT a tired cliche. A hat tip to “conservative atheists?” Regular atheists. Plenty of them. They’re okay.”

Regular atheists are fine because they shut up and sit down. And conservative atheists are good because they share good, American, Christian values like tax cuts and stepping on poor people.

RickR “No mention of ‘Family’ and/ or the Homosexual Agenda™?”

Family & The Homosexual Agenda was my funk band back in the 70s. True story.

colnago80 “Isaac Newton was not a Christian”

Well, that will come as a hell of a surprise to Isaac Newton.

  • otrame

Modus, dear, it is true that Sir Isaac thought he was a Christian. However, since he did not believe in the Trinity, most modern Real, True Christians™ know that he was not, in fact, a Christian. Unless they are trying to prove that Real Smart Guys Back in the Good Old Days™ were Christians, thus proving that modern Real, True Christians™ are Real Smart Guys™. But otherwise, not so much.

  • cptdoom

Willard Romney isn’t a Christian, yet it was ok for the GOP to nominate them. Who was booing God again?

Indeed: I think we can all agree that the douchebaggy wing of atheism will remain a right-wing stronghold for generations to come.

Science is the one where you take evidence and draw conclusions from it.

Except in his case, it’s more like take conclusions and then make up evidence for them.

  • steve84

Unfortunately, they are lying. The Democrats are just as much god-obsessed as the Republicans. The only difference is that they aren’t outright theocrats.

Yep. He appeared on TV many times, but not for a while now. His last appearance: Phenom — 1994).

They are atheists because they imagine they are smarter and wiser than people like Isaac Newton, Abraham Lincoln, Dr. Martin Luther King, and about 85% of the rest of America.

Actually I know a number of people who fit this bill. According to degrees, aptitude tests, etc., they are smarter than 85% of Americans. Wiser? Most of them question their own wisdom which suggests they probably are rather wise. While I have to acknowledge selection bias, the vast majority of those I know who fit this bill are atheists and liberal, so…

    dreary obedience to liberal orthodoxy.

Yup, us liberals, totally authoritarians, blinded by the orthodoxy to maintain the status quo. Oh… wait…

You Yanks could benefit from more openly atheist politicians.

I agree, we would. Using reason and logic to solve problems and establish policy would be a vast improvement on our current system of chicken bones and magic phrases. Unfortunately the reality in the US is that you’d just about have to be a murdering, adultering, homosexual, bi-racial, Muslim to lose to an atheist in a significant election. Even then it’d likely be a toss up.
