Beck’s Bizarre View on the Nevada Standoff

Over the weekend, Glenn Beck wrote an open letter about the standoff in Nevada. On the plus side, he is firmly against the far-right gun nuts flocking there to take on the evil gummint. On the minus side…wow, is it a weird, incoherent diatribe. Seriously, see if you can make any sense at all out of this.

I just got up and read the news out of Nevada and then some of the comments on my Facebook page. Some of those so-called “supporters” of mine would scare me as much as Bill Ayers if I believed they were actual supporters.

A family in Nevada is in trouble. Dire trouble. The Republic is in the same condition.

But the news is conflicted as always. We asked the family to join me on air last week. It did not happen. Until I have spoken to them, I have not wanted to do more than report the facts as I understand them.

I will not assign ill intent to those law officers who are around the land. I do believe there are those in Washington on both sides of the aisle that would love nothing more than put an end to those “pesky rights”, but I am not prepared to escalate an already tense situation by calling cattle pens “concentration camps”. Nor am I willing to blindly accept that our law enforcement, local, state or federal are willing to kill American citizens over Bureau of Land Management land.

Okay, so far, so good.

Never try to create your own miracles. Every time you will fail and make it worse. Moses thought he would make it better when he killed the Egyptian but it only delayed freedom.

I worry about the rancher and his family. The ranchers around him and all around the country. I was blowing the warning trumpets on this kind of usurpation long ago. But any fan of mine knows that I have also said that I will never call for arms with the state of our faith.

I, too, am a rancher but the ultimate rancher is God and we are His flock. I will follow His voice for it is the only one I recognize.

I am sorry, but as all MY real fans know, I believe Ghandi, MLK, Bonhoeffer and Jesus were right. I will follow their example. I know what that means or meant for them.

But I will stand with The Lord.

My feet shall be shod in the Gospel of Peace.

All will be right and in the end all will be well.

I will be a tool in His hands and come what may. So be it.

Well, he’s right about one thing. He is a tool.

There any issue where Beck (Glenn) view’s ain ‘t bizarre soundin’?

Y’ask ‘im if the sky is blue, he gonna say, nah, ‘s’ green with pink polka dots instead?

Huh. When this comes from the Right, it is usually an acknowledgement that they neither have the numbers nor the support among the US security forces to make violence work.

Conjecture: He doesn’t like Federal Authority, but he doesn’t like the violent tactics being used to resist it, nor the rancher’s rationalizations for doing so. As such, he’s encountering profound cognitive dissonance, and thereby reduced to reflexive emotional platitudes and empty phatic utterances to try and reassure himself, lest he be reduced to catatonia. As a by-product, it’s semantically incoherent.

Gods are just sockpuppets. That voice in his head isn’t god, it’s Glenn Beck talking to himself.

I’m going to (gasp, horrors, shock!!!), say something nice about Glenn Beck in this case.

He correctly concludes that political violence is almost always counterproductive. And the rightwing nut wannabe killers are extremely angry with him. He is taking a lot of flack from the ones that want to die shooting somebody, preferably a federal employee.

    Ghandi – Glenn Beck

Who he? Any relation to the notorious anti-western idol-worshipper Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi?

  • doublereed

Wow, I’m actually really surprised he’s not unequivocally on the side of the insane ranchers. Many lesser crazies are.

  • Doubting Thomas

…see if you can make any sense at all out of this.

Its Beck. Don’t need to try.

I will follow His voice for it is the only one I recognize.

The other voices in his head apparently belong to total strangers.

    I, too, am a rancher…

Just like Ronald Reagan and George W. Bush!

Since I assume that he doesn’t mean this literally, it would appear that he sees his job as corralling the unthinking masses until they’re ready to be sold to the slaughterhouse.

    This is also my conclusion.

Beck’s statements are also very Palin-esque, especially capitalizing ‘my’ here:

I am sorry, but as all MY real fans know, I believe Ghandi, MLK, Bonhoeffer and Jesus were right. I will follow their example. I know what that means or meant for them.

    The first sentence is fine.

The second sentence is actually true, but only in the sense that this guy has been warning us for years that he intends to keep usurping our public lands by using and abusing them for private purposes without paying the user fee.

The third sentence isn’t even word salad. It’s what you get after you leave word salad in the blender for an extra 20 minutes.

He may also be making darn sure that if there’s an eruption of violence, he cannot be accused of encouraging it.

Would that be Sarah or Michael?

As far as I can make out, Beck is having a knee-jerk response that the government is doing this, and the government is being run by Obama, so therefore it’s bad, but he’s also actually genuinely disturbed by some of the comments by some of the other anti-government wack-a-loons, so he’s having a bit of a brain meltdown caused by trying to pick a side whilst not actually wanting to be on either side (and, of course, without actually staying out of this and keeping his mouth shut, which, frankly, would have been the best option for him).
