Corsi Thinks He’s Found the Birther Holy Grail

Jerome Corsi is all atwitter with excitement over a British court case that he thinks might finally provide evidence for his birther delusions. Of course, the evidence is devoid of, you know, evidence. It’s a criminal case involving a man named Michael Shrimpton, who says he’s seen the proof that Obama was born in Kenya.

Shrimpton is a self-proclaimed “intelligence expert” in the UK who is on trial for allegedly making a fake bomb threat and he’s promising to defend herself by revealing all sorts of things. He never actually worked for any intelligence agency, but he claims to be privy to all sorts of things. That includes the thing that Corsi is all giddy about:

It’s the same Michael Shrimpton who appears in a 2008 video that began re-circulating earlier this year on the Internet in which he claims to have been privy to shocking intelligence information on Obama’s origins. Shrimpton contends to this day that the CIA collected DNA from then-Sen. Obama and a grandparent, establishing that Stanley Ann Dunham was not Obama’s biological mother.

The video naturally has raised questions about Shrimpton’s credibility and his qualifications to make such an extraordinary claim…

In the U.S., Shrimpton recently has drawn attention with the re-circulation of a video that shows him claiming that the CIA collected DNA from Obama and a grandparent in 2008 as Obama was running for president.

Shrimpton says he was informed that Obama was born in Mombasa, Kenya, in about 1960, which means, he said, the information sits in British intelligence files, because that territory was under the British Empire at the time.

Shrimpton alleged that through DNA tests conducted during Obama’s initial presidential campaign, the CIA established Stanley Ann Dunham was not Obama’s biological mother.

He said Dunham was not pregnant in July 1961, yet it is claimed that she gave birth to Barack Obama Jr. on Aug. 4, 1961.

Shrimpton said it was his understanding that the DNA samples were collected at a fundraising dinner from water glasses that were bagged after the dinner…

In conversations with WND, nevertheless, Shrimpton doubled down on the claims he made in 2008 by asserting that NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden, as part of his negotiations to leave Hong Kong, agreed to deliver to Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow the classified U.S. military intelligence file on Obama’s DNA.

Shrimpton made clear he intends to subpoena from the CIA and from British intelligence any records either agency may have on Obama’s DNA.

“I intend to stand by my allegations regarding the Obama birth certificate, knowing that U.S. intelligence agencies will prefer to characterize me as crazy and delusional rather than admit the CIA has the files I believe they have on Obama DNA,” Shrimpton insisted.

Let’s see…Snowden has documents proving that Obama was born in Kenya and he hasn’t released that evidence even while the Obama administration has demanded that he be returned home to face trial. That totally makes sense. Shrimpton produces not a shred of evidence for any of this, of course, but that seems not to matter to Corsi.

Corsi has no journalistic credibility and hes boring. Where is Orly Taitz when you need her? She would produce a much better spittle-flecked visual.

  • colnago80

Evidence, who needs fuckken evidence. Interestingly enough, Shrimpton doesn’t say how DNA from Ms. Dunham was obtained as she died in 1995, long before 2008.

  • Jeremy Shaffer

Shrimpton produces not a shred of evidence for any of this, of course, but that seems not to matter to Corsi.

Hey, did you not notice that he repeated himself several times? I mean he said that the CIA collected DNA four times in that snippet alone. That’s done deal right there. Case closed, man!

Evidence? Ha! Who needs “evidence” when you can just say the same thing over and over again?

    SLC – Exhumation?

Sounds like Mr Shrimpton is angling for an insanity defence.

Corsi doesn’t say how DNA from Ms. Dunham was obtained because he doesn’t claim that DNA was obtained from her. He says the comparison was between Obama’s DNA and that of “a grandparent”, presumably his maternal grandmother Madelyn Dunham, who died in Novermber 2008.

  • Hercules Grytpype-Thynne

    Oops. For Corsi read Shrimpton.

…and he’s promising to defend herself by revealing all sorts of things.

    Herself?

Now how can you argue with that?

There’s some more background info on Shrimpton here – http://barthsnotes.com/2014/04/23/conspiracy-theorist-michael-shrimpton-prosecuted-over-olympics-bomb-claim/ – and his official defence filing is online here – http://gl-w.com/2014/03/14/michael-shrimptons-official-defence-statement-in-full/ – from which one can only conclude that a detailed psych consult might not be a bad idea.

A couple of the more unusual claims in the defence include:

“GCHQ, MI5, MI6 and DIS all have relevant files on the McCann kidnap and murder. The Pentagon and CIA files will also be available under the UKUSA arrangements. The current Metropolitan Police inquiry is a farce with respect and arguably a cruel hoax upon the poor parents, who have been systematically and cruelly misled by the police, who are partly responsible for their daughter’s murder. The Cabinet Office and intelligence services are perfectly well aware that the poor girl was murdered in or around December 2008, and that her photograph was sent via e-mail to Jose Manuel Barroso, President of the European Commission, who selected her for kidnap and sexual abuse.”

    And…

“The Defendant also correctly appreciated that Osama bin Laden was not personally religious, i.e. that his public image was a front. In coming to that conclusion he was informed by his knowledge, gained in part through high-level direct and indirect Saudi contacts, including the late H.E. Prince Mohammed, Governor of the Eastern Province, who before his assassination supported the Customer Buy-Out bid for Rolls-Royce and Bentley Motors co-ordinated by the Defendant in 1997/1998, without wishing to give offence to any Muslim, that Islam was a fraudulent religion. That is because the Koran was not dictated by God, as Islamic theologians proclaim, but by a series of theologians at the Vatican, hence the original being in Latin and the requirement for early Islamic scholars to speak Latin.”

IF Corsi thinks he’s found the Birther Holy Grail one can only conclude that it has all the appearance of being an industrial-grade tinfoil hat.

    Re #6

Noted. However, how definitive is the comparison between DNA samples of a grandparent and a grandchild? Particularly when the two are of different sexes, which means that there is no Y chromosome to be compared.

Shrimpton produces not a shred of evidence for any of this, of course, but that seems not to matter to Corsi.

No of course not…now it is a matter of ego and really reaching to grab hold and shag to death the flimsiest of rumours based on hearsay shadows, however fuckin’ delusional, to support their dearest ‘wish upon a star’ right-wing moment…

Seems a little late in the Presidents tenure anyway, I mean the health legislation, probably a Democratic holy grail since the 1960’s and a Rethuglian hatred from the creation finally becomes a reality while Rethug chaos, ends in a virtual schism in their ranks during its passage, it does not seem to have dawned on matey yet…his pipe dream would do him and his political fluffers absolutely no good whatsoever, their hared has become flesh.

It is done and dusted…rationality won under a Democratic president that will go down in the history books as a good thing!…anyway is seems no one really truly gives a flying fuck if he was born on the moon as long as they hear the name god from his lips now and then!

Fighting lost and forgotten battles…is that the legacy of the right wing…because they sure as hell do not have a valid case at the moment about anything, let alone some spurious flakey wish list in which the Pres was born elsewhere.

Seems their god is not rushing to oust his nemesis in the Whitehouse…you would have thought for super fairy that was a doddle and actually a priority in gods own country?…but nope…zilch…nada. now’t!

I have evidence that Obama was born in Kenya!!! It was on my toast this morning.

Oh, wait a minute, I was hungry.

    Ignore this post.

Obviously it’s because Putin is using the evidence to blackmail Obama into not interfering in Ukraine. Boy Ed, you’ve got a long way to go to qualify as a right-wing nutjob.

    Nope, nothing offensive there.

Corsi: Shrimpton said it was his understanding that the DNA samples were collected at a fundraising dinner from water glasses that were bagged after the dinner…

Hercules Grytpype-Thynne: Corsi doesn’t say how DNA from Ms. Dunham was obtained because he doesn’t claim that DNA was obtained from her. He says the comparison was between Obama’s DNA and that of “a grandparent”, presumably his maternal grandmother Madelyn Dunham, who died in November 2008.

That would be quite a trick, even if the fundraiser had been held in Honolulu. Madelyn Dunham suffered from osteoporosis and cancer. She said in March 2008 that she would not even give interviews. Even so, it’s possible she was at the dinner; special accommodations could have been made. That assumes she wanted to attend, which seems extremely unlikely. It would be easy to check whether she was there.

Then there’s the matter of the logistics of collecting the water glasses and making sure it’s known which one was used by Mrs. Dunham. Still I suppose a competent CIA agent could pull that off somehow.

The final point is that this dinner must have occurred before November 2008. That means the CIA was under Bush/Cheney. If any real evidence existed (Ha!) it certainly would have come out then.

Shrimpton’s whole premise probably falls apart on any of these points. Add them all together, and it’s dead certain.

  • Hercules Grytpype-Thynne

    @colnago80

Fairly definitive, I should think. Your DNA is much more similar to any one of your grandparents’ than to that of a random unrelated person, since you got 25% of your DNA from him or her.

  • Hercules Grytpype-Thynne

    @caseloweraz

You seem to assume I believe Shrimpton is telling the truth. That’s unwarranted and ridiculous. My only point was that colnago80 had misread or misstated the claim that he was making.

  • a_ray_in_dilbert_space

To right-wing nutjobs, all evidence does is get in the way of their creativity. Reality has a liberal bias, you know.

    Re #18

After further cogitation, mitochondrial DNA could be used as, if Obama is Dunham’s son, he would have the same mDNA as her and her mother.

  • Nick Gotts

That is because the Koran was not dictated by God

There’s a celebrity quiz show on BBC Radio 4 called “The Unbelievable Truth”, in which the contestants take turns to read out a load of ridiculous hooey, in which nuggets of truth are concealed. Maybe Shrimpton’s trying to play, but if so, he’s crap – the truths are supposed to be as implausible as the falsehoods.

Jerome Corsi is a noted PhD to conservative Christians analogous to how denialists reference Roy Spencer, Judith Curry, Patrick Michaels, and Richard Lindzen, or creationists pointing to Michael Behe and Bill Dembski.

I always get a kick out of how denialists refute what experts think except the outlier cranks and incompetents. Than they’re all about appeals to authority.

Looks to me like the typical right-wing, wingnut, fan dance. They come out shouting into a bullhorn about how they will ‘blow the roof off’ of some story and they never seem to get around to revealing anything. It reminds me of a fan dance where the dancer always looks to be just about to show more but it always ends as a tease.

  • caseloweraz

Hercules Grytpype-Thynne: You seem to assume I believe Shrimpton is telling the truth.

No, not a bit of it. I provided additional reasons why his story doesn’t hold water.
