Yet Another Obamacare – Hitler Comparison

Sen. Stacey Campfield of Tennessee (state legislature, not federal) is the latest wingnut to compare the Affordable Care Act to Hitler’s slaughter of millions of people in concentration camps. It was his “thought” — and I’m using the term loosely here — of the day for May 5:

Democrats bragging about the number of mandatory sign ups for Obamacare is like Germans bragging about the number of manditory sign ups for “train rides” for Jews in the 40s.

Really? It is? In what way, precisely, is it like that at all? The millions of people who now have health insurance that did not have it before, are they now going to be murdered? Are their lives going to be destroyed by being able to afford medical care when they couldn’t before? By what imaginable fucked up reasoning could one ever suggest such a comparison? And true to form, he “regrets” that we’re all missing his point:

I regret that some people miss the point of my post. It was not to offend. It was to warn. To draw attention to Obamacare and the slippery slope that I see occurring in the lives of myself, my constituents, and the rest of the country with the continued taking of freedom by the federal government.

In no way was my post meant to diminish or detract from the pain, suffering and loss of human life that occurred during this dark time in human history. Instead the post was meant to draw attention to the loss of freedom that we are currently experiencing. I stand by my steadfast opposition to Obamacare.

My position and record on the sacredness of human life and protecting that life speaks for itself. 300 million Americans are at risk from government bureaucrats deciding who should be given life saving medications and who should be denied. Every citizen now faces the possibility of their tax dollars going to pay for a government funded abortion. At no point in our history have we ever faced a federal government and administration with a lower regard for human life, and that is something that I cannot and will not allow to go unchallenged.

I will continue to stand up against the government takeover of the nations healthcare. I will continue to support freedom and life.

You will continue to be a fucking idiot, a liar and a demagogue. Of that I’m quite sure. Seriously, a slippery slope from giving people access to health insurance to Adolf Hitler? Oh yes, of course. Because before Hitler shipped millions of people off to concentration camps, he first made sure they had comprehensive health care coverage. It’s in all the history books.

To be fair, Hitler’s step before the Final Solution was expanding Medicaid and providing subsidies for purchasing private healthcare insurance on a public exchange.

If yo don’t count the Vietnam War, the Labor riots, the Trail of Tears, etc…

  • colnago80

I find it amazing how fuckken assholes like Campfield when all the signups are for private health insurance entities like Blue Cross.

What frosts my goat is that the government really is doing all manner of things to restrict our freedoms and imprison us. You don’t need to be a conspiracy nut to come up with just a few.

Government data collection and spying on US citizens in bulk. Draconian laws against small time drug offenders, or those with DWI’s. Militarized police departments and policing practices that are right out of a dictatorship. Crackdowns on dissent and whistleblowers, while allowing all manner of illegal activity for the ruling class and economic elite. I could go on, but then I get depressed.

Why can’t any of these goofballs get serious about serious problems and not get the vapors over stuff that is at best meaningless? Some of these guys seem truly upset over these slights, yet you can’t get them revved up over real world badness.

300 million Americans are at risk from government bureaucrats deciding who should be given life saving medications and who should be denied.

Which government bureaucrats will decide that? I though under the ACA that decision was still in the hands of claims handlers at private insurance companies.

Americans are at risk from government bureaucrats deciding who should be given life saving medications and who should be denied.

I agree! It’s so much better when that decision is in the hands of insurance company middle managers who don’t have to worry about the company’s bottom line.

Maybe we can add a ObamaCare Memorial museum next to the ark museum. It could have dioramas show a 40 year old get his first physical in 20 years or a mother of six holding an inhaler. In the adults only section they could lay out in graphic detail some of the tools a phlebotomist might use or a blood pressure cuff. I think it is important that Americans remember the dark days when more people had access to safe, modern health care.

Have the Republicans not heard of Godwin’s law and if so do they just not care?

Its been around long enough by now and even if it hadn’t don’t they think the whole Hitler! Hitler! Hitler! nazi! nazi! Nazi! Obama! Obama! thing is getting a bit repetitive like being about eight hours into this song :

If Campfield and his ilk had their way, they would all just die quietly in hospital ER waiting rooms.

What? Address an actual problem that might have an actual solution that they’d have to do some actual work on? Yeah, you can keep trying to keep the raccoons out of the garbage, but since I started waving my tiger-warding stone around, how many tigers have been sighted in the neighborhood?

Ahhh, wingnut victim envy. It’s like listening to Pilate whine about how very oppressed the Romans are. The absolute lack of perspective and self-awareness are sad, but they’re also funny, too. In classical clowning, these are characteristics of the whiteface, the character whose insistence on taking himself very seriously only makes his foolishness more comical. Think Moe Howard from the Three Stooges: “Quiet, numbskulls, I’m being repressed!”

  • bushrat

Everyone knows that saving lives is exactly analogous to ending lives. Doctors are like Hitler too.

  • dingojack

So ACA is exactly like Hitler’s Final Solution? Did the Final Solution save money, prolong lives and prevent deaths? No? WELL HOW IS IT THE SAME, NUMBNUTS?!?

So, my warning: if a doctor does not charge you for a check up on monday, be certain that you will be axe murdered by a government bureaucrat on tuesday. I hope that is a less inflammatory and more accurate rendition of my warning, because my only intent and my only hope is to save lives.

Why else would I have one thought a day?

    Let’s take HPV infections alone.

HPV vaccines (Cervarix and Gardasil), are estimated to save in the order of 3750 women and 1900 men every year in the US. So having a system where people can afford to be vaccinated and have their lives saved (not to mention the economic benefits of not being sick or disabled)* is like killing of millions people by Nazis in WHAT WAY EXACTLY?

Silly Dingo. Everybody knows Gardasil turns girls into sluts. If they don’t die first.

  • dingojack

Trebuchet – Does it make boys into sluts too? (Both sexes are vaccinated to make sure males aren’t passing in on to females and females aren’t passing on to males. In both sexes HPV can have terrible effects, including anal fistulas and laryngeal cancers, amongst other health problems).

“Why can’t any of these goofballs get serious about serious problems and not get the vapors over stuff that is at best meaningless?”

If they started addressing real problems, they might solve one. Real problems have real solutions. But their ideology is entirely founded on the idea that the government can’t solve problems, so addressing real problems would undermine their entire world-view. Idiotic railing against imaginary problems allows for solutions that don’t solve anything, but just make people’s lives worse, which allows them to then stand back and say ‘See what happens when you trust the government?”
