The Political Philosophy of Duck Dynasty

Eager to show that they will embrace anyone who appeals to their base no matter how ignorant or bigoted they are, the Republican Leadership Conference brought in Phil Robertson of Duck Dynasty to show them the path to political success. The Worldnetdaily’s Jerome Corsi presents his pearls of wisdom:

Duck Dynasty patriarch Phil Robertson kicked off the Republican Leadership Conference at the Hilton Riverside Hotel in New Orleans on Thursday with an entertaining speech in which he mixed his faith in Jesus Christ with an admonition to the GOP to return to the Bible and the fundamental principles of freedom upon which the nation was founded.

“You lose your religion, you lose your morality, you lose your freedom,” Robertson said. “You cannot be right for America if you are not right with God.”

In an event the GOP billed as an “unofficial kickoff” of the 2016 presidential campaign, Robertson drew repeated applause and more than one standing ovation by insisting, “If the country does not turn to God at a fairly rapid clip, we are going to lose the United States of America.”

Wow. How compelling. And how original. It’s not like a million other wingnuts don’t say identical bullshit on a daily basis.

“We threw God out of the schools. We threw God out of the courthouses,” Robertson said, in a speech that featured quotes from several Founding Fathers, including George Washington, John Adams, and James Madison.

“Separation of church and state? I’m telling you right [now] what our Founding Fathers said and it doesn’t sound like separating God Almighty from the United States of America. It’s a lie. You remove the Bible out of schools, it was said more 200 years ago, and you are going to be wasting so much time punishing criminals. Education is useless without the Bible. Take the Bible out of schools and there’s going to be an explosion of crime.”

*yawn* So genius. Much brilliant.

Take god out of culturer and the next thing you know college-educated businesspersons will start pretending to be backwoods hicks complete with cammo costumes.

FINALLY! Someone is finally telling the GOP to focus on God and the Bible. This kind of fresh thinking will really shake things up!

And for record, God was kicked out of the schools because he did not have any children enrolled there. (And because he is a dangerous psychopath). He was kicked out of the courthouses because he was not wearing shoes. (And because he is a dangerous psychopath).

I was going to try and fisk this then I realised I don’t have a clue what he is on about. I’ll grant him “Education is useless” though, in his case it clearly has been.

Sounds like he’s just playing a role and reading his lines.

It’s good to see the GOP attempt to make inroads with the hip, younger generation.

“Take the Bible out of schools and there’s going to be an explosion of crime.”

Crime’s been going down in the US for 30 years.

“If the country does not turn to God at a fairly rapid clip, we are going to lose the United States of America.”

That’s actually quite astute: and we can only hope that the country doesn’t and they do.

From the press reports I gather that he used the fake Madison religion is the basis of government quotation, and at least alluded to fake Burke and Patrick Henry quotations, though possibly without the actual misattributions. The line about religion being useless without the Bible sounds like a reference to another fake Madison quotation, though it doesn’t have to be. He also seems to have referred to a George Washington prayer, presumably one of the fakes though the report I read didn’t give any details.

He’s using the future tense, clearly the Bible is currently in schools and he is warning us what will happen if it leaves.

He’s using the future tense, clearly the Bible is currently in schools

Given that he says “we threw God out of the schools,” I think its pretty clear he’s using garbled ignoramus tense rather than future tense.

That’s what they want you to think. But you notice that Fox News and conservative radio are still telling you the truth.

When I read there would be “pearls of wisdom” from the WND, I immediately pictured those dense pellets my sister’s rabbit used to leave everywhere. Then I read the quote and realized the bunny shit was far less offensive.

    garbled ignoramus tense

    Oh that is so stolen!

  • jaxkayaker

I think garbled ignoramus is a mood, not a tense, like the subjunctive mood. :)

    Good one, eric.

That garbled ignoramus is so tense, he calls ducks when he walks.

The logical disconnect in the mind of people who hate muslim theocracy and want christian theocracy is astounding.

Also, stop complaining about what happens in schools when you clearly did not attend one.

No problem. As Humpty Dumpty explained, it’s all about who is to be master. That is all.
