Hoft: Vegas Shooters Were ‘Socialists’

Jim Hoft, the Gateway Pundit, isn’t referred to far and wide as the dumbest man on the internet for nothing. In the aftermath of the shootings in Las Vegas perpetrated by a couple of right wing, anti-government extremists, he immediately declared them to be “socialists.”

The Las Vegas police shooters were identified as two Neo-Nazi socialists.

Neighbors said “Jared” and “Amanda” had talked about killing police officers then going underground until the time was right to come out and kill some more.

Uh, socialists? Evidence, please? They clearly had a far-right, anti-government ideology. Does Hoft think they went to the Bundy Ranch and ranted about dark conspiracies by the evil left-wing Obama in the name of socialism? Better yet, one of his commenters threw out what may be the greatest No True Scotsman argument in history:

CONSERVATIVES, by definition, do not get high on pot and meth and go on shooting sprees killing innocent LEO’s minding their own business and eating their lunches … period. Case closed. End of story.

Okey dokey. And an awesome conspiracy theory, offered with no evidence at all of course:

All the signs of another Southern Poverty Law Center psyops program. They even had to drag Walmart into it. ” Jared ‘ and ” Amanda ” were prepped to pose as neo nazis in return for drugs ..probably even got well laundered money originating at some government entity that needs manifestations of violent white racism to maintain and advance the totalitarian agenda. The cops killed were also likely well selected by the handlers of this operation..the kind of good cops who could not be corrupted by the system yet witness to so much filth as to be feared for what they could say.

On Planet Wingnuttia, if they can imagine it to be true, it automatically is true.

If all you know about Nazis comes from the US rightwing media, you know that the name comes from “National Socialists“.

    Checkmate, intellekshooalz!

CONSERVATIVES, by definition, do not get high on pot and meth and go on shooting sprees killing innocent LEO’s minding their own business and eating their lunches …

But.. but… (flabbergasted) isn’t that why you conservatives all want guns? To water the tree of liberty just a soupçon now and again?

  • dugglebogey

I thought they put the swastika on the cops to say that all cops were Nazis, not that they themselves were Nazis.

All the signs of another Southern Poverty Law Center psyops program

Another one? Somehow I missed the previous ones. How many have there been? Is it possible that Obama is taking credit for some conspiracies that he’s not entitled to?

  • StevoR : Free West Papua, free Tibet, let the Chagossians return!

    @ ^ dugglebogey : Me too.

And, in fairness “socialist” is part of the Nazi party’s name and ideology.

On Planet Wingnuttia, if they can imagine it to be true, it automatically is true.

So, can I go there and imagine that they all think I’m a millionaire and they”l all treat me like I am? Can I imagine that I own and control and can fly a much faster than light starship and automatically have one and take it off from planet wingnuttia and have it work all the way from Alpha Centauri to Zubenelgenubi?

I agree on the No True Scotsman. Seldom have I heard it stated in such absolute terms.

  • robertfoster

And they tossed the Gadsden Flag on the cops’ corpses. You know, that Don’t Tread On Me rag. The one that CNN refused to refer to by name. The one that is so clearly a socialist banner.

  • Doug Little

    Wow,

No time for internal reflection by the conservative media who, in my mind, hold some responsibility for these types of outcomes.

    Full steam ahead captain!

  • alanb

    @robertfoster,

Obviously it was a “false flag.”

  • anubisprime

Most, if not all, of these limpdicks come out with this sort of bollix mainly to sooth themselves and like brain dead no hoper’s.

They do it because they rarely, if at all, get pulled up on it and are never castigated or humiliated in public for their bullshite.

They trade on that premise…matters not a jot what they say cos they can…free speech ‘ennit’…and a media always looking the other way.

Fucktards are fucktards, very few of them progress, just get more toxic, cos they can!

You’re half right, SteveoR. ‘Socialist’ was part of the party’s name, because it was fashionable at the time for any populist movement to call itself ‘socialist’. There was absolutely nothing socialist in the party’s ideology. It was quintessentially fascist.

For an outsider’s perspective on the Las Vegas shootings and the broader issue of gun violence, I recommend this article by Canadian Broadcasting Corporation Washington Bureau Chief, Neil Macdonald.

‘Open carry,’ NRA-induced paralysis, the growing paranoia around U.S. gun laws: Even the NRA was weirded out, briefly, by America’s increasingly overt gun culture.

So, can I go there and imagine that they all think I’m a millionaire and they”l all treat me like I am?

No but you should be able to easily relieve them of their money running various scams and become a millionaire.

Ahh but the proper name of China is “the REPUBLIC of China” and the USSR is “United States of Socialist REPUBLICS” so I guess that means they’re Republican. /s

And, in fairness “socialist” is part of the Nazi party’s name and ideology.

In fairness, “democratic” is part of the North Korean regime’s name and (stated) ideology. I guess that makes them a democracy then.

Hey, Ed, I notice it’s been two days since loony-right upstart Dave Brat beat the second-highest-ranking Republican in his own party’s primary; and you haven’t said one word about it, even when Cantor resigned his House “leadership” position. Seems a bit of a lapse for someone who makes a habit of blogging about extreme, ridiculous, dangerous right-wing blowhards.

Perhaps you’re looking the other way because this particular Tea Party loony is also a libertarian, who heads up a paid propaganda campaign disguised as academics? He certainly helps to disprove the notion that libertarians are either different or independent from Republicans, so I can see how a lot of people here would like to ignore him.

The subject has come up on other threads on this blog. Interestingly enough, Brat is a professor at Randolph Macon College. So is his Democratic opponent, Jack Trammel. Brat is a professor of economics, Trammel is an associate professor of sociology.

Too bad the man whose written and spoken words frequently invoked Christian concepts such as the divine creator and Jesus and God didn’t name his movement the National Socialist Christian Workers Party.

    Probably wouldn’t do any good.

Wingnut: “Nazcps were liberal leftists because the word socialist is in the name.”

Sane person: “Obviously they were followers of your religion because the word Christian also is in the name.”

    Wingnut: “They weren’t REAL Christians!”

  • Jordan Genso

    Neighbors said “Jared” and “Amanda”…

I believe his name was “Jerad”, not “Jared” (the latter was the gunman in the recent school shooting in Oregon).

  • abb3w

Because using Facebook is inherently socialist; that they “liked” the NRA, American Patriot Media Network, Support the 2nd Amendment, The Patriot Party, Rand Paul 2016, Ron Paul, the Washington Examiner, Legalize Weed, Draft Judge Andrew Napolitano, the Heritage Foundation, FreedomWorks, American Crossroads, and Allen West? Those are just evidence the psyops team was thorough in building the background cover story.

Ed’s usually a few days behind the news. He’s clearly said that he writes a lot of posts ahead of time and then releases them gradually. Reading some significance into his not writing about Brat right away says far more about you and your agenda than it does about Ed and his.

  • http://artk.typepad.com ArtK

Can someone explain the scare quotes around “Jared” and “Amanda”? Aside from the misspelling of “Jerad,” these weren’t apparently aliases. Is Hoft trying to set up the idea that this was a false flag and these were really government agents?

  • StevoR : Free West Papua, free Tibet, let the Chagossians return!

    @12. Synfandel

StevoR wrote, “And, in fairness “socialist” is part of the Nazi party’s name and ideology. ”

You’re half right, StevoR. ‘Socialist’ was part of the party’s name, because it was fashionable at the time for any populist movement to call itself ‘socialist’. There was absolutely nothing socialist in the party’s ideology. It was quintessentially fascist.

Not much socialist maybe -but not absolutely nothing I’d say given it arose from a socialist group. Wikipedia notes :

Prominent Conservative Revolutionary member Oswald Spengler’s conception of a “Prussian Socialism” influenced the Nazis.[10] The party was created as a means to draw workers away from communism and into völkisch nationalism.[11] Initially, Nazi political strategy focused on anti-big business, anti-bourgeois, and anti-capitalist rhetoric, although such aspects were later downplayed in order to gain the support of industrial entities, .. (snip) … The party grew out of smaller political groups with a nationalist orientation that formed in the last years of World War I. In 1918, a league called the Freien Arbeiterausschuss für einen guten Frieden (Free Workers’ Committee for a good Peace)[22] was created in Bremen, Germany. On 7 March 1918, Anton Drexler, an avid German nationalist, formed a branch of this league in Munich called the “Committee of Independent Workmen.”

    Plus :

ecember 1918, Drexler decided a new political party should be formed based on the political principles which he endorsed by combining his Committee of Independent Workmen with the Political Workers’ Circle.[22][28]

On 5 January 1919, Drexler created a new political party and proposed it be named the “German Socialist Worker’s Party”, but Harrer objected to the term “socialist”; the issue was settled by removing the term and the party was named the German Workers’ Party (Deutsche Arbeiterpartei, DAP).[29] To ease concerns among potential middle-class supporters, Drexler made clear that unlike Marxists, the party supported the middle-class, and that the party’s socialist policy was meant to give social welfare to German citizens deemed part of the Aryan race.

Certainly the early iterations of the National Socialist party contained socialist elements and ideas it seems.

Maybe not a huge amount and the ratio of political policies but still.
