The Worldnetdaily Gets an ‘Exclusive’ Story

I’m always amused when the Worldnetdaily tags a story as a “WND exclusive.” Usually that means the story is so unbelievably stupid that no other “news” site would publish it. But in this case of this article, it’s something so mundane and obvious that one wonders why they would bother at all. The “exclusive” is that Michele Bachmann issued a call to prayer. Wow. How shocking.

With the Mideast in flames, the Obama administration engulfed in a seemingly endless parade of scandals and Congress in perpetual disarray, one lawmaker believes it is time to turn to divine guidance.

As the nation faces serious challenges, Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Minn., is asking Americans to join members of Congress in serious prayer next week.

She is inviting everyone to pray with lawmakers in spirit, humbly, on behalf of the nation.

Bachmann told WND:

“In light of al-Qaida-affiliated terrorists advancing toward Baghdad, Russian tanks rolling into Ukraine, Iran looking to deploy forces to ‘assist’ in Iraq, Iran continuing its nuclear weapon program, the Obama administration’s decision to release from Gitmo and potentially return to terrorism five of the Taliban’s top operational and policy leaders, China advancing both territorial claims and an aggressive cyber war against United States, the recent surge of thousands of illegal immigrants entering the United States with little to no resistance from our government, daily debt accumulation, the growing government intrusion in our health-care system and more, I am sending out a bipartisan invitation to all of my congressional colleagues to join together next week in Washington, where we can bow our heads and hearts and bend our knees before the Lord in prayer.

“I believe our nation would do well to humbly turn to the Lord and recognize that He and He alone is the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. He is the author and the finisher of our faith.

“I hope my colleagues, along with citizens across the country, will join together next week in prayer, asking the Lord for wisdom, mercy, grace, protection, forgiveness and insight on behalf of our nation.”

I’m sure glad she didn’t try to politicize it or anything, aren’t you? I wish we had even a single legislator willing to issue a Call to Reason.

I think the traumatic memories of LBJ haven’t faded yet.

There must be some irony in using the phrase ‘call to prayer’ to describe a statement that starts with criticism of an Islamic group.

I’m sure it will be just as affective as Rick Perry’s magic rain dance from a couple of years ago.

What are you talking about? Just a few months after that prayer meeting, Texas had a devastating rainstorm and flood (followed by more drought).

the Lord … the finisher of our faith

I wish he’d get on with the job so we didn’t have to listen to this pious pablum all the time.

Finally, a solution! It’s about time! The government has been doing something for too long!

No — but I’d go with Devine guidance. We haven’t got old Andy Devine* to rely on, but Betsy Devine is still available. A journalist with a master’s degree in engineering, she should be able to offer some useful guidance.

    * I remembered him from the kid show Andy’s Gang (“Plunk your magic twanger, Froggy!”) but he was bigger than that.

And that series of much needed storms began the night that The Hitch, PZ, and Dawkins appeared together at the Texas Freethought Convention in Houston. This was the last time Hitchens appeared in public.

She is inviting everyone to pray with lawmakers in spirit,

I’m a lawmaker in spirit. I haven’t made any laws, but in spirit I’m the kind of person that would love to help forge the laws of a better nation.

    So, they’re praying for me?

Or is it just that WND can’t write?

If I were American, I would pray that Rep. Bachmann would go very far away and never come back. Those who believe in a God could point to her announcement that she won’t run again as partial fulfillment of my prayer.

Maybe if all of the congressional members who sincerely believe that prayer is the answer would sequester themselves for a long prayer session, the ones that were left could actually get something done…
