Benghazi Now a Distraction From Benghazi

U.S. Special Forces has apparently captured the mastermind of the Benghazi attack and Republicans are working overtime to dismiss that fact. Allen West, for example, has decided that the capture of this man, and Benghazi in general, is now a distraction from everything else.

He followed that bit of hypocrisy up on his website:

We’ve known about this fella for almost two years — he was the one who famously sat outside in a hotel sipping on a drink, giving an interview to Time magazine. We’ve known his whereabouts — so why now?

Hat tip to our U.S. Special Operators but this smells of typical politics and especially the politics of expediency and Orwellian message control. We know the liberal progressive media depends upon an easily distracted populace. By the end of the week, this Abu Khatallah will be forgotten, but what will not be forgotten is the neatness of this and the timing of the announcement. So I guess Obama and Clinton can now tout that the perpetrators have been brought to justice — what took so long? — if indeed this pans out.

You guys can buy into this, but I ain’t.

So he thinks Obama was just waiting to capture this guy for the last two years as controversy has raged over the attack on Benghazi? If that were the case, why wouldn’t he have done this before to get some of the heat off him? Of course, it doesn’t matter to West or to his followers. As long as it makes Obama look bad, it has to be true. Even if everything else was once an attempt to distract from Benghazi, now Benghazi is an attempt to distract from everything else. This is the modus operandi: Say anything you need to say to make Obama look bad, even if it’s the opposite of what you said yesterday.

Say anything you need to say to make Obama look bad

That, of course, in context, means “make Obama look bad to wingnuts and others without two neurons to rub together.”

Others who think Obama looks bad in matters rooted in reality have no need to resort to such stupidity.

  • rationalinks

Oooh, a false flag of a false flag….wheels inside wheels man!

  • sinned34

Wheels inside of wheels? Ugh, I hate that level of Uncharted 2.

  • dingojack

Ah – Allen, how long did Shrub the Stupidest know about Osama bin Laden? Why did it take another (relatively competent) President to actually kill him?

What, didn’t Shrub have any embarrassingly failures to cover-up? Like photos of soldiers tormenting prisoners, the sacking of the entire countries security forces (and the totally predictable wave of attacks from emboldened terrorists and disgruntled ex-employees), one disastrous Proconsul of Iraq after another, the huge cost in American blood and treasure…

And don’t get me started on the non-response to Katrina or the idiotic tax cuts…

And Abu Khatallah claims the ant-Islamic video was the instigation for the attack…I’m waiting for the first right winger to claim that Obama must have tortured him, and since he was tortured, nothing he says can be believed.

13 Benghazis Happened Under President Bush and Fox News Said Nothing

By Shwetika Baijal May 9, 2013

Donald Rumsfeld tweeted this missive shortly after the Benghazi incident last year. If one is to judge “American weakness” by Rumsfeld’s standards, then he and President George W. Bush are the exemplars of failure in protecting our embassies.

The Daily Banter’s Bob Cesca produced this astounding timeline of 13 separate incidents where U.S. consulates were attacked during President Bush’s, and then Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld’s, tenure.

The incidents below include all kinds of attacks — gunmen on bikes, suicide bombs, car bombs, gunmen shooting outside, and terrorists storming Consulate compounds similar to what happened in Benghazi. During each of those incidents Fox News was only supportive of the adminsitration’s reactions and there were no calls for the removal of Secretary Condoleeza Rice.

Benghazi is just a political witch hunt. One that found no witches.

There were 13 embassy attacks under the Bush Catastrophe that killed 60 people. Fox and the GOP never noticed.

Beirut Marine Barracks Bombing Fast Facts – CNN.com

    www. cnn. com/2013/06/13/…/beirut-marine-barracks-bombing-fast-facts/

    Jun 13, 2013 – …

1983 bombing at a Marine compound in Beirut Lebanon that killed 241 … Reagan sends Marines to Lebanon on a peacekeeping mission.

Saint Reagan owns the recent record for Benghazis.

The suicide truck bomb in Beirut killed 241 marines. This is 40 Benghazis, all at once.

He subsequently cut and run and the chickenhawks never said a word.

    But…but….LIBERAL PROGRESSIVE MEDIA!!!

  • magistramarla

I assume that the arrest took a long time because this guy was being watched carefully, evidence was being gathered and an airtight case was being built before he was picked up.

Isn’t that what spying is all about?

  • Mobius

On the Daily Show, Stewart showed a clip of a Fox pundit complaining that it took Obama 2 years to get this guy.

She ignored completely that Lil Bush spent 7 years and failed completely to get Bin Laden.

    Hypocrisy much.

I read an article in The NYT today that they planned to get him last year:

“The United States military had plans to capture Mr. Abu Khattala more than a year ago. But an operation to apprehend him last October was aborted at the last moment after reports of another nearly simultaneous raid in a populated area in Tripoli to capture the suspected terrorist Nazih Abdul-Hamed al-Ruqai, known as Abu Anas al-Libi, were revealed on Twitter.

With the element of surprise lost, Special Operations commanders canceled the mission, two Defense Department officials said. Alarmed by the raid on Mr. Ruqai, Mr. Abu Khattala adopted a much lower profile, moving much more carefully around Benghazi, accompanied by gunmen and with civilians nearby that would have complicated any attempt to capture him.”

Of course, it wouldn’t have mattered to wingnuts when Abu Khattala was captured, because they would always claim that Obama was using it to distract us from something. A raid last October would be trying to distract us from the botched rollout of healthcare.gov. Capturing him a month ago would have been a distraction from the VA scandal. Capturing him weeks after the attack on the consulate would have been an attempt to get us to forget the consulate attack itself and so on.

Yeah, so they caught Mr. Cattail, big deal, NOT!!

You do know, Ed, that what is currently happening in Iraq is completely the fault of Obama for releasing those five Alcadians, yes?

His wimpishness on foreign policy issues (he’s an evil dictator within our borders!!) gives encouragement to the rebel scum who oppose the benevolent rule of the universally adored Nouri al Maliki (may his name be praised)!

Lies! I’m perfectly consistent in the things I make up to make Obama look bad!

raven “There were 13 embassy attacks under the Bush Catastrophe that killed 60 people.”

    Thanks, Obama!

“Fox and the GOP never noticed.”

Yes, but to be fair, none of those attacks happened under Obama.

I’m just glad all these bad things keep happening, forcing Obama to do good things to distract us from them.
