Allen West Breaks Neck Executing Abrupt 180

With the capture of Ahmed Abu Khatallah, one of the leaders of the attack on the American consulate in Benghazi, Allen West has a problem. Until then, West had been using the fact that he hadn’t been captured as proof of Obama’s incompetence. In January, he signed an open letter to John Boehner that said:

Not a single terrorist in this well-planned and executed military attack by radical Islamists has been apprehended. Ahmed Abu Khattala, a ringleader of the attack, granted long interviews to reporters in Benghazi cafes, while the Obama administration — and you — have done nothing.

So in January, Khattala was a “ringleader” in the attack. Now that he’s been captured, he’s a mere peon.

Fox News contributor Allen West dismissed the recent capture of Benghazi terrorist suspect Ahmed Abu Khattala as a “smoke and mirrors” ploy and questioned whether Abu Khattala was really the “mastermind” behind the attacks or “the Obama administration’s fall guy.” Yet West just months ago co-signed a letter calling for Khattala’s capture because he was the “ringleader of the attack.”

During an appearance today on Fox News Radio, West said that Abu Khattala has been “seen out in public and everything, and now all of a sudden the American people are supposed to believe that he is the mastermind?”

Well, that’s what you yourself believed a few months ago when that was politically convenient for you. Now that it’s no longer politically convenient, it’s magically not true anymore. I hope you recover soon from your whiplash.

It really is disgusting how the cable media doesn’t call anybody out nowadays, no matter how egregious.

Mr. West doesn’t need to worry about breaking his neck; a rubber spine is great protection.

I assume that this guy was being carefully watched the entire time, while evidence against him was being carefully collected. They were probably giving him lots of time to get careless and possibly implicate others. I’m sure that his capture was also carefully planned so that he could be captured without bystanders or our own men being killed. Of course, the RWNJs simply can’t give the Obama administration any credit for doing a job the right way.

Reminds me of W said he wasn’t going to rest until Osamma bin Laden was captured/killed then a year latter dismissed the quest as unimportant.

Suppose French commandos pulled off a night time raid in Boston, snatched a US citizen and whisked him off to Paris.

What would the American reaction be?

The headline got my hopes up. And then I felt bad.

  • D. C. Sessions

    Depends.

Did they snatch a Democrat or a Republican?

Doc Bill: Good question. I’d say it largely depends on what the evidence was against that person, whether American politicians were obstructing international justice or not. It was clear the Libyan government wasn’t going to prosecute or extradite him. If the situations were reversed I would understand why it was done, and hesitantly agree that in this case it was permissible.

I would assume there would be diplomatic and economic consequences between us and France. Y’know, just a guess.

How would Obama catch the real mastermind behind Benghazi, look in his mirror?

Doc Bill “Suppose French commandos pulled off a night time raid in Boston, snatched a US citizen and whisked him off to Paris.”

It would never happen. They’re too easy to foil. All you have to do is leave an invisible box nearby and they trap themselves.

    Re Doc Bill @ #5

    15MT bomb on Paris.

  • dingojack

I wouldn’t recommend it, the French might drop a load of (equally real) singing pink unicorns on Washington DC.

throwaway, never proofreads, every post a gamble @ 8:

Well, say they snatched a war criminal who had tortured prisoners and American politicians were obstructing international justice by neither prosecuting this war criminal nor turning him over to the International court of Justice?

I guess George Bush, Dick Cheney and quite a few others had better beware of people speaking French.

Sort of like the right wing on US involvement in the Libyan civil war of 2011 and the recent freeing of Bowe Bergdahl. They were first for those actions, and then against them. The only constant is to take the opposite side of whatever position President Obama was taking.

What would they have said during World War II?

Before the attack on Pearl Harbor, would they have complained and complained and complained that FDR was not doing enough to fight the Axis powers? Never mind that he had to overcome the “America First” isolationists.

After the attack on Pearl Harbor, would they have turned around and defended Hitler, Mussolini, and Tojo as great patriots with great economic policies who knew what to do about Communism?

I’m seriously wondering if West supporters are going to claim that there’s no contradiction between the two statements since he used different words (“ringleader” and “mastermind”).

But if they did that said talking heads wouldn’t come on their shows anymore. Think of the rating.

I thought Ludendorff was dead, turns out he was just reincarnated as Allen West. Huh.

With the notable exception of Megyn Kelly calling out Dick Cheney on his Iraq bullshit, on Fox News of all places.

lpetrich: What would they have said during World War II?

    .

Folks like this said nothing nearly this extreme nor self-contradictory. Largely, I think, because journalists in those days were more than stenographers and fashion models. They would have been called out on it.
