AZ School Official Busted for Anonymous Postings

Arizona’s Superintendent of Public Instruction John Huppenthal has been busted for making a whole bunch of really vile postings on internet websites under pseudonyms. He has admitted that he was the one who wrote them and Boing Boing has some of those postings. This is astonishingly stupid:

“It was Darwin, not Hitler, who named the Germans the master race,” Thucydides posted in September 2013 on the blog Seeing Red AZ. “It was Darwin who expressed approval of eliminating both Jews and Africans. Hitler worked to eliminate the Jews. Margaret Sanger, founder of Planned Parenthood was given the job of eliminating African-Americans. Hitler fed 6 million Jews into the ovens. Sanger has fed 16 million African-Americans into the abortion mills.”

WTF? Where the hell did Darwin ever say anything remotely like that? This guy is the head of public instruction for the entire state of Arizona and he blatantly lies about history. And guess what? He’s running for reelection.

“We now know that (Franklin D. Roosevelt) was almost completely responsible for the great depression,” Falcon9 posted in 2013 on Blog for Arizona. “Only in liberal mythology did FDR ‘save’ the nation. … Worse yet, Roosevelt’s disastrous economic policies drug down the whole world and directly led to the rise of a no-name hack named Adolph Hitler who was going nowhere until Germany’s economy went into the tank.”

Wow. FDR is responsible for Hitler. Seriously.

“Obama is rewarding the lazy pigs with food stamps (44 million people), air-conditioning, free health care, flat-screen TV’s (typical of “poor” families).”

I hope those “lazy pigs” don’t vote for this asshole.

Huppenthal is a complete idiot above and beyond these comments. The head of public instruction, went to private schools, sends his kids to private schools, and strongly advocates for charter schools. These comments are simply a cherry on the shit sundae that is politics in AZ.

Sad thing is he will almost certainly be reelected. Midterm elections tend to be more conservative, especially when the Democrats control the white house. Add in that AZ is to the red side of the purple spectrum, and I think the Republicans will sweep all five executive offices in the state. One of the worst things to happen to AZ was when the president selected Napolitano for Homeland Security. With her as governor, you could rely on her to veto some of the idiocy the legislature passed. She also helped some Democrats win executive offices on her coattails. Since then? It’s a debate between the Republicans and the batshit insane Republicans.

It’s always depressing to see someone who is this stupid be successful, but it’s especially depressing when it’s in the field of education.

    A no-name hack with a name, that’s quite a trick.

    Modus @4,

Must of been part of his deathbed confession.

  • busterggi

Doug @ 5. – was that before or after he prophisied Objectivism?

  • http://en.uncyclopedia.co/wiki/User:Modusoperandi Modusoperandi

Doug Little & Busterggi, no, it was during Darwin’s big speech in Triumph of the Will.

Some more comments can be found with Google.

I don’t think that the pseudonymous posting is inherently reprehensible, even for a politician. (There’s some question whether he may have done so from a work computer; but even if so, I think that makes a relatively weak pretext for complaint, at best.) The content of his posts may well be, of course.

If nothing else, using “Socrates” and “Thucydides” as pseudonyms strikes me as quite pretentious.

Carlos Danger doesn’t look so bad now, does he?

  • Synfandel

It was Darwin, not Hitler, who named the Germans the master race.

He means Gerhardt Darwin, Vorsitzende of the 1920 Munich Oktoberfest. Of course, Gerhardt based his assessment primarily on beer-drinking, sausage-eating, and polka-dancing prowess. And he may have had a point there.

  • http://en.uncyclopedia.co/wiki/User:Modusoperandi Modusoperandi

Synfandel “He means Gerhardt Darwin, Vorsitzende of the 1920 Munich Oktoberfest.”

Now you’re just being ridiculous. That was 1919. The 1920 Vorsitzende of the Munich Oktoberfest was Elga Volgenvurst (her second consecutive year, after being Gerhardt Darwin the year before).

Lovely … for those not from AZ .. here he is with a HS journalism student shortly BEFORE he was elected state school superintendent: http://blogs.phoenixnewtimes.com/bastard/2010/06/john_huppenthal_humiliated_by.php

Wasn’t there some flap a few years back about Hispanic cultural studies being forbidden in Arizona? I have a vague memory of it. It this guy was first elected in 2010, it probably predates his term.

  • caseloweraz

Is there any word about whether he ever posted on Amazon? Some of his language sounds a lot like what I’m seeing from a pseudonymous customer who gives books like Joseph Stiglitz’s The Price of Inequality one-star ratings and raves about transfer payments in his “reviews.”

Actually he has no background in education, he’s a political hack through-and-through.

City council –> legislature –> this office.

Horn (his predecessor) was the one who did in the Tucson Hispanic Studies program. This idiot expanded it to include all ethnic studies programs despite the study that he launched finding that the programs were not only not illegal, but were, in fact, helping to reduce the achievement gap. Like I said at #1, this guy is both a blight on education as well as a blight on politics.

I’m currently reading Charles Darwin’s Descent of Man. It’s the first time I’ve read Darwin beyond selected passages.

Mr. Darwin’s emotional intelligence and credibility is astonishing, as high as I’ve ever encountered. He’s the Jackie Robinson of scientists; and he had to be in order to effectively promote his factual observations along with the findings of all the other researchers he cited.

Comparing Darwin to Hitler, and blaming Darwin for Hitler’s actions, has now caused my contempt for conservative Christians who’ve long defamed Darwin to increase exponentially. These people are responsible for the suffering of billions; they’ve earned for more condemnation than they get.

Worse yet, Roosevelt’s disastrous economic policies drug down the whole world and directly led to the rise of a no-name hack named Adolph Hitler who was going nowhere until Germany’s economy went into the tank.

If I remember correctly, it was the expenses and damage from WWI, and the reparations Germany was made to pay that tanked its economy. Really, that situation is more the fault of the pompous grandchildren of Victoria than FDR… especially since it was in absolutely no way the fault of FDR.

Also, what kind of Revisionist logic does it take to blame the Depression on a person who wasn’t even in power when it start–. Never mind, I am remembering 2009.

  • otrame

Hmm. FDR wasn’t even working in elective office 1927-1929, when the policies that led to the Great Depression were in full force. He was governor of New York 1929-1933. How the hell did his policies cause the Great Depression? (Amazing how much you can learn with 30 seconds of google)

I feel so sorry for Arizona’s kids. Those kids need to kick their parent’s asses if they reelect this guy.

Actually, Rush Limbaugh started blaming Barack Obama for the 2007 recession in the summer of 2008, as soon as it became clear Mr. Obama would win the Democratic nomination.

Michael Heath; I rarely catch you in a basic mistake but this is certainly one of those.

You cannot exponentially increase the infinite.

This kind of ahistorical view of FDR must be very common on the right, since there’s no other way to explain why they appear to have learned nothing from history, and continue to respond to recessions with the exact wrong policies (austerity).

  • dingojack

“Worse yet, Roosevelt’s disastrous economic policies drug down the whole world…”

FDR was passing out the joints? And I missed it? Dang!

It is, of course, entirely reasonable to assert that a Victorian era English gentlemen would declare Germans to be the master race. That’s exactly the sort of declaration that should make any reasonable person think “Huh… That doesn’t make sense. I should probably not take that at face value.”

    Re #21

From his Wiki page, it appears that Huppethal has legitimate degrees from reputable universities, including a BS in mechanical engineering, not an easy subject. However, it doesn’t show any employment except running for political office.
