LGBT Rights Leads to *spins wheel* Communism!

I suspect that when a Christian right bigot sits down to write yet another column about how gay marriage will destroy everything, they have a big wheel that they spin with slots like “communism,” “fascism,” “extinction,” “death of civilization,” “God’s wrath” and so forth. Gina Miller’s wheel apparently stopped on communism today:

We have seen in the past several years under the Barack Obama (or whatever his name is) administration a militant homosexual movement on steroids, running at warp speed. Many of us have been warning you that this movement is not what it seems, what it’s being sold as to the American public. While its proponents claim it is simply about gaining “marriage equality” and “civil rights” for homosexual, “transgender” and other sexual deviants, that is not the case.

At its core, this movement is about tyranny. It’s about subverting the rights of people who hold traditional moral values, which are antithetical to immoral, centralized government control. It’s about silencing the dissent of those who oppose the destruction of marriage and the mainstreaming of deviancy. It’s about deconstructing the foundations and truths of our freedom-based, constitutional Republic. This movement’s goals are in line with the goals of the communists, and I’m certain that many homosexual activists, who are only useful pawns of this movement, do not see this.

Communism! Tyranny! Dogs and cats living together! Mass hysteria!

Yeah right. That’s why you oppose federal limits on abortion, federal policies like DADT, and federal criminalization of drugs. Its why you fought vigorously agaisnt DOMA – because of your serious and consistent opposition to centralized government.

Ohhh, that’s right, you don’t consistently oppose it. You only oppose it when it does things you don’t like.

Is this like some kind of 6-degrees-to-Kevin-Bacon? What’s the connection between LGBT rights and communism? What does LGBT rights have to do with communal ownership of property, and having no money?

    Let’s connect the dots.

communism -> Communist Russia -> Big Government (Soviet Russia) -> Big Government (United States) -> Socialist Elements (United States) -> LGBT rights

    … I dunno

Equal rights results in exactly one thing: the loss of unearned privilege and subsequent butthurt.

I recommend Preparation H for his wound.

Yeah, having all the power centralized in one entity is really antithetical to the bible.

If you call yourself a journalist, you might want to be certain of the name of the president about whom you’re writing.

Can I get a ruling on when scare quotes are allowed and when they are not? Consistency, please?

You have to understand the mindset: 1) equality is a zero-sum game; 2) her rights trump everyone else’s; 3) diminishing her privilege is an effect of (insert totalitarian system du jour); 4) scare quotes are used for any word or phrase denoting something that your belief system says doesn’t exist, regardless of objective reality.

Oh, and 5) non-sequitur is the only legitimate form of argument.

Actually, Miller is sorta right for utterly wrong reasons. For at least 15 years the Communist Party USA, which I am a member of, has supported full and equal rights for the LGBTQ community, along with most other organizations that are explicitly communist and socialist.

But the reason isn’t because communists are leading LGBTQ folks around by the nose, but because we’ve recognized that differences in sexuality and gender are exploited by the ruling class to divide and manipulate the working class. We’re following the LGBTQ activists who have shown that gender and sexual bigotry hurt everyone.

As others above have pointed out, Miller is expressing the rage of an oppressor who is being denied the use of one of her tools.
