WND Gushes About Todd Akin’s Courage

The Worldnetdaily is publishing a new book by Todd Akin, the world class dolt who lost the Missouri Senate race to Claire McCaskill after saying monumentally stupid things about rape and pregnancy. And they’re extolling his extraordinary courage in the face of a Republican party who abandoned him.

In “Firing Back,” six-term congressman Todd Akin describes in eye-opening detail what it is like to be an unapologetic conservative in a town dominated by media bullies, backroom bosses and liberals of either party.

Although he tried to be a loyal Republican, Akin’s first allegiance was always to the Constitution and his conservative principles. When the Bush administration lobbied him to approve its liberal legislative initiatives, No Child Left Behind and the Medicare prescription drug benefit, Akin refused. In the process, he made some serious enemies.

Those enemies got their revenge after Akin made an awkward comment about rape. Although he had just won a hard-fought Republican primary in Missouri for U.S. Senate, party bosses tried to coerce him to yield the nomination to their preferred candidate.

When Akin refused, the bosses turned their backs on him and let Democrat Claire McCaskill win.

In “Firing Back,” Akin tells the story of how the Republican leadership not only threw him under the bus but also ran over him a few times for good measure. Not one of them explained what it was about Akin’s remarks that so deeply offended them.

Akin names names and takes numbers in “Firing Back,” but this book is much more than a tell-all. It is a battle-tested guide for Republicans and conservatives to help them find their courage and reclaim their integrity and, by doing so, to help preserve America’s faith and freedom.

Let me translate that for you: “It’s everyone’s fault but mine!” Such courage.

It seems to me, from what I understand from librarians, that’s really rare. If it’s a legitimate printing, the Dewey Decimal System has ways to try to shut that whole thing down. But let’s assume that maybe that didn’t work or something: I think there should be some punishment, but the punishment ought to be of the writer, and not attacking the publisher.

party bosses tried to coerce him to yield the nomination to their preferred candidate

Yeah, the party bosses had this quaint notion that they should field a candidate who could actually win. Instead of unseating one of the most vulnerable Democratic senators, Akins’ insistence on staying in the race after he had completely blown any chance to win, handed Claire McCaskill the seat on a platter. Not that I’m objecting, of course.

But Akins and WingNutDaily are confusing stupidity with courage.

The amount of public adulation far right-wing types express for each other is a source of constant amusement, definitely a mutual admiration society for the mentally and morally impaired. I don’t really think there’s anything even remotely like that on the left.

If only Dr. Oz had consulted a psychic in time, he would’ve known the importance of educating the public about the little-known one weird physiological trick that women’s bodies use in cases of legitimate rape!

But he didn’t, so now he, and the whole Constitution, must suffer the consequences!

Damned Commie pinko atheist liberals running the GOP!

But Akins and WingNutDaily are confusing stupidity with courage.

    Yes.

Anyone can be stupid, uneducated, dishonest, a bigot, a hater, a Dark Sider, and/or a fundie xian. In fact, these are a package deal.

But that isn’t courage. Courage is running as a normal person woman Democrat in a state like…Missouri.

…after Akin made an awkward comment about rape.

What awkward comment? That if a woman gets pregnant, then her accusations of rape must have been false? That’s so stupidly wrong that it’s downright evil and Aiken actually deserves a punch in the face.

Unless you actually believe it. Then don’t call it “awkward”: own it! Repeat it every chance you get! Especially during every single election!

  • dhall

So . . . by naming names and whining, he’s guaranteeing that he will never ever get any further moderate GOP backing and therefore never ever have the slightest chance of winning a meaningful election? Or are there enough Tea Partiers to make a serious write-in candidate out of him? It just seems that this would be political suicide. Most of the time. Maybe not in bizarro world, but . . .

Actually, the GOP funded Akin as soon as his “legitimate rape” statement faded from the public consciousness:

    1) It ought to be obvious.

    2) I saw explanations all over Teh Interwebs. Akin must not get out much. That may go some distance towards explaining his extremely poor knowledge of medical biology.

To the God-fearing, misogynistic, homophobic, xenophobic right, stupidity + stubbornness = courage.

    Obviously, not enough buses.

Never explain conservative Republican values in a public forum without the dog whistle.

    No need to thank me.

  • Evan Brehm

Todd Akin extolls the True Conservative Values (TM) of Personal Responsibility quite perfectly.

  • raven

God is in charge and everything happens for a reason.

God wanted Todd Akin to crawl back under his rock. God has a way to shut things like Todd Akin right down.

Correction in any pregnancy there can be complications that cause the body to shut down, their called a miscarriage. And since there is no known way to prevent this from happening 100% of the time, then God is just an ass who doesn’t want some women to have children at certain times, because he forgot which ones were raped and his aim is shitty. (Yeah that sounds so much better.)

No matter how you say it, what qualifies as a legitimate rape? Any rape is legitimate, you dolt. Drugged, drunk, or any way that you have sex with a person that it is not their desire to do so, is rape. That is why you are still a moron.

    Raven @17:

I often wonder how these dolts who say God wants them to run reconcile things when they lose. Since everything happens according to his plan, doesn’t that mean God wanted them to become objects of ridicule?

I often wonder how these dolts who say God wants them to run reconcile things when they lose. Since everything happens according to his plan,…

    Good question. Who knows?

I suppose they might blame it on satan and the demons.

In fundie xianity, god is the all purpose explanation for everything. Satan and the demons are also the all purpose explanation for everything.

Fundies never have to worry about free will, individual responsibility, thinking, or voluntary choices.

According to them, they are just meat robots doing what god, angels, satan, or demons want them to do. And it doesn’t look like they can tell the difference between god/angels and satan/demons.
