Staver Goes Godwin. Again.

Mat Staver, the dumbest lawyer in America not named Larry Klayman, is fed up with Republican politicians who haven’t spoken out strongly enough in opposition to federal courts striking down laws against same-sex marriage. Naturally, he compares them to those who remained silent in the face of Hitler.

I think from the political right, the Republicans and so forth, those that are Republican elected officials state and federal, those who remain silent will ultimately be held accountable just as much as Democrats who advocate to the contrary. This is not an issue in which you can remain silent any more than you can remain silent during Nazi Germany. That was a moral issue, it was not defined by geography, there was a moral imperative there of the dignity of the human being, you can’t remain silent there and expect no consequences. Nor can you remain silent or advocate to the contrary with regards to the undermining of marriage as a union of a man and a woman.

Right. Because preventing Christians from oppressing gay people is just like the Nazis. First they came for the oppressors, but I said nothing…

Firstly: ” This is not an issue in which you can remain silent any more than you can remain silent during Nazi Germany.”

When they play ‘Nazi Germany’ it’s morally imperative to make as much noise as you can muster. (Or something).

    And speaking of ‘moral imperatives’…

Secondly: “That was a moral issue, it was not defined by geography, there was a moral imperative there of the dignity of the human being, you can’t remain silent there and expect no consequences.”

What Matty, you mean like the right for homosexual people have jobs, have homes, to marry, have families, and everything else we heterosexuals take for granted whilst being treated with ‘the dignity [due to] of the human being[s]’?

Standing in the way surely will have consequences for you Matty, mainly being pointed at, laughed at and held up as an example of the kind of authoritarian bully-boy that was opposed liberty and freedom.

“…the dumbest lawyer in America not named…”

This is getting a bit old …

Legalizing gay marriage is just like Hitler. It was next on his To Do list after “kill all of the gay people”.

@2…that’s Ed’s standard introduction for Matt. He only uses it for Matt and no one else. So, you must be reading a lot of posts about Matt by Ed.

    There’s a solution for that.

@4: Actually, Ed uses exactly the same introduction in reverse for Larry Klayman. Sadly, he omits Andy Schlafley, spawn of Phyllis, founder of Conservapedia, and Harvard Law classmate of Barack Obama.

    Ed’s lead:

Mat Staver, the dumbest lawyer in America not named Larry Klayman . . .

With as many blog posts as I’ve read from Ed starting with this assertion, I’m currently wondering if Mat Staver actually deserves the honor rather than Larry Klayman.

It would nice to count the number of times Ed’s started with this lead vs. the lead, “Larry Klayman”, the dumbest lawyer in America . . .”.
