Screaming Pastor: Don’t Question Screaming Pastors

Saw this ridiculous video on Youtube. It’s a pastor, apparently named Levette Humphrey, screaming at her congregation because someone apparently questioned her about something. She says that’s just like questioning God and tells them to sit down and shut up, while her congregation cheers her on. Cult of personality, anyone?

(function(d, s, id) { var js, fjs = d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0]; if (d.getElementById(id)) return; js = d.createElement(s); js.id = id; js.src = “//connect.facebook.net/en_US/all.js#xfbml=1”; fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js, fjs); }(document, ‘script’, ‘facebook-jssdk’));

My guess: The whole thing was scripted weeks ago and the protestor got a nice little bonus plus a percentage of the collection that week.

    A female pastor?

She must not read the Bible much.

  • lordshipmayhem

I never question screaming pastors. i slowly back away, all the while reaching for the tranquilizing gun…

  • Jeremy Shaffer

lordshipmayhem- Yeah and remember to smile but not to show any teeth.

  • Alverant

Silly pastor, we don’t need your god’s permission to question you.

  • lordshipmayhem

Jeremy Shaffer – I leave the showing of teeth to the big protective German Shepherd dog beside me. ^_^

I saw The Screaming Pastors at El Macambo in Toronto back in the ’70s. Their live show is way better than their studio work.

Synfandel, the Congregation Cheers Tour? I had tickets, but couldn’t make it, on account of not making parole. I ended up not being able to see them until well after Levette Humphrey left the band. It wasn’t the same.

…apparently questioned her about something. She says that’s just like questioning God…

    1. This isn’t good xian theology at all. She is just a human and doesn’t get to claim equality with god.

    2. Unless you are the Pope or the Mormon Pope. Catholics don’t get to question the Pope. OTOH, they’ve had centuries of practice in ignoring whatever the Popes said that they don’t agree with.

    Oxymoron?

And there you have over 2000 yrs of theist modus operandi forever immortalized on teh web….enjoy!

    Puny pastor!

At least with police you have a review board, advisory committees, legal recourse, and the political option of voting the police chief and mayor out of office. Against a preacher you might be able to walk away, if the congregation lets you. Contemplate how cults trap people and how they handle apostasy within some Muslim or cult communities. Even in the “land of the free” freedom is measured in degrees.

Must not be Protestant; they have a “priesthood of all believers”. Maybe the questioner was recognized as not a true believer. Must be great to have all those adoring fans.

    I love Christian humility.

HYDRA – more freedom of expression allowed than most religions.

    “Cult of personality, anyone?”

I nominate Ed Brayton for the Bryan Fisher award.

  • sugarfrosted

@18, If there is any cult of personality here, it’s not for Ed; it’s for Modus Operandi.

  • dingojack

    anubisprime (#11) – I had a theist Modusoperandi once…..

(hmmm not a easy as it seems. I’d better leave it to the professionals)

MO! You’lll have to do it!

Not one Living Color reference? I am disappointed.

sugarfrosted “@18, If there is any cult of personality here, it’s not for Ed; it’s for Modus Operandi.”

Modusoperandi and Ed Brayton have never been seen in the same room at the same time. Think about it.

  • dingojack

Ah, but does Ed refer to himself in the third person?

    Enquiring minds….

No, it’s not. When I question God, he doesn’t scream back at me.

    @13 lorn

You know how it seems when a nation’s name contains “democratic”, it isn’t?

So when one calls itself “land of the free” …

  • lorn

    dingojack @22:

I find the screaming goats far more edifying, and informative, that any preacher.

It might be a cult of personality, but infallibly interpreting God’s wishes is standard fare for US Christian Fundamentalists. My SBS preacher grandpa always made various claims, proclamations, and “explanations”, but also explicitly denied interpreting what he read. Somewhere between the age of ten and thirteen, I realized – with slowly growing horror – that these folks thought that they couldn’t possibly make a mistake, because they thought that the bible was infallible. I of course then understood that their claim that the bible was infallible was also a human claim, and their house of cards fell apart in my mind.

    .

Part of it was the repeated assertion that they “read the bible as it is” while other Christian denominations “interpreted the bible”. Of course this is all ego, but it’s also universal behavior. SBC and similar people are never wrong about biblical matters, because the bible is never wrong, see? It’s just logic!
