Former Football Team Chaplain Goes Full Idiot

The Florida minister who was recently told that he can no longer be the chaplain for a public high school football team is getting the full martyr treatment on Fox News, first with a Todd Starnes column and then with an interview with the merry band of morons on that station’s morning show. The stupid is strong with this one.

During a Thursday interview with Fox & Friends host Elisabeth Hasselbeck, Pastor Troy Schmidt explained that he used to pray with football players at Olympia High School until the district banned him.

“Well, I don’t think they’ve read the Constitution,” he said. “It’s pretty clear that they cannot prohibit my free expression of my faith or the free expression of the coaches to express their faith. They’re telling us to be atheists, when we want to say this is what we believe. And we want to express it freely like the Constitution says.”

Yes, the Constitution protects your right to express your faith. What it does not do is provide you with a government-supported job and a captive audience of high school students to whom to express it. If they come to your church, you can preach to them all day and night if you want. And you think not letting you proselytize students makes you an atheist? Then there’s another good reason not to let you near a bunch of students: You’re a moron.

Only on Fox News can you say something that galactically stupid and not get challenged on it.

Why do football teams even need a chaplain?

Oh, right, because some of the players might not be “saved” yet.

Unfortunately, he probably won’t be challenged on it (out loud) in Orange County, Florida either.

“It’s pretty clear that they cannot prohibit my free expression of my faith or the free expression of the coaches to express their faith…”

“…unless I want to put up a Satanist monument at the state capitol or offer an atheist ‘prayer’ at a county council meeting. Then, ban away, baby!”

Tuibguy at # 1: Why do football teams even need a chaplain?

Obviously, because that thing up there in the clouds that runs the whole universe really cares about one bunch of humans winning in a game over another bunch, in a little town somewhere on the North-American continent. And the more roasted goats you offer up, the more he’ll favor your bunch.

    Does that answer your question?

    @tuibguy(#1) asked:

Why do football teams even need a chaplain?

It is because Jesus saves and their defense is horrible without him.

Roasted goat? Oh, you mean tailgating.

They need a chaplain just the same way they need the national anthem and flag waving. Because reasons.

Why do football teams even need a chaplain?

To protect them from all the concussions of course.
