CeeLo Green was recently convicted of slipping ecstasy into a woman’s drink and was sentenced to three years probation. After his sentencing, he took to Twitter to defend his actions, implying that if someone is unconscious it isn’t real rape. When that proved to be a controversial statement, he deleted his Twitter account, then reopened it to issue as bad a notpology as you’ll ever see.
Following the sentencing, the singer took to Twitter to defend himself.
“People who have really been raped REMEMBER!!!” he wrote, according to Billboard.
“If someone is passed out they’re not even WITH you consciously! so WITH Implies consent,” a second tweet added.
Green, who is known for songs like “Fuck You,” later deleted his Twitter account, saying that he would “not allow that negative energy to loiter on my time line u still got it so keep it! I’m deleting this too.”
But by Monday, Green’s Twitter account was back online.
“Let me 1st praise god for exoneration fairness & freedom! Secondly I sincerely apologize for my comments being taken so far out of context,” he wrote.
“I only intended on a healthy exchange to help heal those who love me from the pain I had already caused from this. Please forgive me as it,” Green continued. “…was your support that got me thru this to begin with. I’d never condone the harm of any women. Thank you.”
Wow. Meaningless religiobabble? Check. Ridiculous notpology? Check. And why on earth would you think he would ever harm any women? Slip drugs into their drinks, yeah, but I’m sure his intentions were purely noble. Nope, you’re a scumbag.
