News Flash: CeeLo Green is a Scumbag

CeeLo Green was recently convicted of slipping ecstasy into a woman’s drink and was sentenced to three years probation. After his sentencing, he took to Twitter to defend his actions, implying that if someone is unconscious it isn’t real rape. When that proved to be a controversial statement, he deleted his Twitter account, then reopened it to issue as bad a notpology as you’ll ever see.

Following the sentencing, the singer took to Twitter to defend himself.

“People who have really been raped REMEMBER!!!” he wrote, according to Billboard.

“If someone is passed out they’re not even WITH you consciously! so WITH Implies consent,” a second tweet added.

Green, who is known for songs like “Fuck You,” later deleted his Twitter account, saying that he would “not allow that negative energy to loiter on my time line u still got it so keep it! I’m deleting this too.”

Oh yes, that terrible “negative energy.” Can’t have that.

But by Monday, Green’s Twitter account was back online.

“Let me 1st praise god for exoneration fairness & freedom! Secondly I sincerely apologize for my comments being taken so far out of context,” he wrote.

“I only intended on a healthy exchange to help heal those who love me from the pain I had already caused from this. Please forgive me as it,” Green continued. “…was your support that got me thru this to begin with. I’d never condone the harm of any women. Thank you.”

Wow. Meaningless religiobabble? Check. Ridiculous notpology? Check. And why on earth would you think he would ever harm any women? Slip drugs into their drinks, yeah, but I’m sure his intentions were purely noble. Nope, you’re a scumbag.

Eww! Fuck you too, Cee-Lo! And ecstacy? In a drink? That stuff tastes nasty! There’s a reason it’s usually in capsules or tablets, and that’s because MDMA tastes like a sick dog pissed on a chemical fire. So not only is Cee-Lo an unrepentant scumbag, but he’s a stupid one too.

  • Mr Ed

    YES

Unless your partner uses the above word or a synonym you shouldn’t be having sex. Sex with someone who does or can’t consent is immoral and sex with an unconscious body is down right creepy.

  • Pierce R. Butler

    “Ecstasy” effects

include feelings of mental stimulation, emotional warmth, … enhanced sensory perception … MDMA can also enable users to dance for extended periods. … some users … report undesirable effects immediately, including anxiety, agitation, and recklessness. … can produce a variety of adverse health effects, including nausea, chills, sweating, involuntary teeth clenching, muscle cramping, and blurred vision.

Sounds like a very poor choice for a knockout drug.

  • StevoR : Free West Papua, free Tibet, let the Chagossians return!

Who now? Tries to vaguely remember who this “celebrity” is again.

    (Read’s the scumbag’s comment.)

Yep. Fucken oath he is. Scumbag is putting it nicely.

  • scienceavenger

I sincerely apologize for my comments being taken so far out of context,

You keep using that word…”taken out of context” implies there is a context in which the statement would have been fine, so unless you are ready to provide that context, fuck right off.

People who have really been raped REMEMBER!!!

Uh huh…so if during your next surgery your doctor decides to slip you one where the sun don’t shine, its not really rape, right? Didn’t think so.

  • Childermass

    Three months probation?!?

He should get life in prison.

  • Reginald Selkirk

Who now? Tries to vaguely remember who this “celebrity” is again.

This is the scumbag who changed the lyrics to John Lennon’s Imagine during a New year’s Eve performance 2.5 years ago.

Cee Lo Green upset John Lennon fans on Saturday night by performing a soulful version of the songwriter’s classic “Imagine” with the lyrics changed from “nothing to kill or die for / and no religion too” to “nothing to kill or die for / and all religion’s true.”

May he enjoy his time in prison.

  • Trebuchet

    @6: Three years.

@7: No prison, just three years probation.

  • dugglebogey

Who do I rape to get my own show on TBS?

  • wscott

I only intended on a healthy exchange to help heal those who love me from the pain I had already caused from this.

(emphasis mine) Won’t someone think of teh fanz!

  • cafeeineaddicted

With a note that I’m not actually wishing for it to happen, I’ll just point out that if someone had drugged Green to unconsciousness and violated him, I’m pretty sure he’d call it rape, even if he didn’t remember it.

So if Cee Lo isn’t home I can go in his house and take his stuff cause if he’s not there it’s not stealing right?

  • lldayo

Is he known to be just that unattractive or terrible in the sack that he can’t get laid by just throwing some money around? There’s always some random that’s willing for a down payment on a Louis Vuitton bag.

  • A Masked Avenger

Oh sweet FSM. And I found his personality engaging on “The Voice,” which my son liked. Good thing he’s moved on to cooking shows.

“Let me 1st praise god for exoneration fairness & freedom! …

So three years’ probation is exoneration? Perhaps the judge needs to be informed that his sentence is being interpreted as an acquittal–I’m pretty sure the judge has discretion to cancel the probation.

… Secondly I sincerely apologize for my comments being taken so far out of context,”

Oh fuck me. “I apologize that you misunderstood me so horribly”? Like my partner says to me, “I apologize that you’re such an asshole.”

  • A Masked Avenger

Oh sweet FSM. And I found his personality engaging on “The Voice,” which my son liked. Good thing he’s moved on to cooking shows.

Erm, if it wasn’t obvious, my son has moved on to watching cooking shows. There is not, yet, a “Bartending with CeeLo Green” on the cooking channel.

    *spits*

  • A Masked Avenger

    @lldayo, #13: kindly fuck off.

  • Pierce R. Butler

Is Ceelo Green really a person – or was that just his brother Soylent?

  • http://www.ranum.com Marcus Ranum

First off, what a scumbag. Good to hear they cancelled his show and shifted him immediately to “has been” status.

But, E? To put someone asleep? Aaahahahahahahahah!!!! There’s something a bit wrong with that scenario. Unless he was planning on date-raping her after she had danced her ass off for 6 hours?

  • http://www.ranum.com Marcus Ranum

So if Cee Lo isn’t home I can go in his house and take his stuff cause if he’s not there it’s not stealing right?

Yeah, and if he’s in bed sleeping it off while you’re stealing the keys to his car, you can have your way with him, too, and it’s totally OK.

  • http://www.richardcarrier.info/ Richard Carrier

@14: He wasn’t charged with rape (because “he said she said” defense) but mere possession of an illegal drug. I disagree with criminalizing the mere possession of ecstasy (beyond a misdemeanor at best). But as usual, the prosecution couldn’t get a rape conviction (because juries don’t believe rape victims) so they flailed around for anything whatever on the books that would stick. It’s sad they had to use immoral drug laws to do that. It’s even sadder they couldn’t get a conviction for assault (as I would think drugging someone without their consent mst surely be). But the lightness of the sentence stems from it being a mere possession charge. And his claims of “exoneration,” though disingenuous, are based on the lack of a rape or assault conviction. The judge can’t do much about that, unfortunately.

“Green faced one felony drug charge. Prosecutors’ claim of lack of evidence led to no rape charges being filed, but he was still sentenced to three years of probation, plus 45 days of community service.”

    http://www.buzzfeed.com/rachelzarrell/cee-lo-green-says-its-only-rape-if-the-person-is-conscious

IMO his tweets look a lot like evidence of guilt (when the alleged act is so obviously wrong, ordinarily you don’t take to defending what you claim you didn’t do…unless, you know, you did it):

    http://www.complex.com/music/2014/09/cee-lo-green-tries-to-define-what-rape-is-on-twitter

So all around, scumbag is a warranted descrip.

  • D. C. Sessions

Speaking of scumbags, any bets whether he used a condom?

  • http://flewellyn.livejournal.com Flewellyn

I’ma quote a friend of mine on this one:

“I see you trying to ignore that girl you drugged and I’m like, Fuck you. Oooh-ooh-ooh!

I guess consensual sex just wasn’t enough and I’m like, Fuck you! Oooh-ooh-ooh!”

    Sing along!

  • lofgren

I almost feel like we need a new word for rape. I see so many discussions about rape online degenerate into a semantic debate about what is and isn’t rape rather than a discussion about whether a given act is wrong. It’s clear that a lot of people picture a violent assault at knife or gunpoint when they hear rape, and no matter how many times they are told that most rapes don’t happen like that they will never allow that anything else is rape. “Fine,” I want to say, “it’s not rape. But drugging sombody and havng sex with them while they are unconscious, which we’ll call ‘fnargle’ from now on, is still FUCKING WRONG.

  • sw

I think this case pretty thoroughly disproves the “men rape because they’re horny and can’t find women willing to sleep with them” trope. If a rich and famous musical artist willing to share ecstasy can’t find someone willing to sleep with him, then no one can. This was all about power.

  • EnlightenmentLiberal

    “CeeLo Green”

How did this guy only get probation? WTF?

  • EnlightenmentLiberal

Earlier comment retracted due to what Richard Carrier said above. thank you sir.

  • dan4

@17: Because a lame joke is really appropriate for a story about a guy attempting to drug a woman so he can rape her.

  • eric

    Lofgren:

“Fine,” I want to say, “it’s not rape. But drugging sombody and havng sex with them while they are unconscious, which we’ll call ‘fnargle’ from now on, is still FUCKING WRONG.

I think the best solution is to argue that they are both rape, the difference being that the “attack” scenario is assault and battery + rape. Its simple and accurate. If you rob someone, it’s theft. If you beat them up in order to rob them, it’s assault + theft. Same thing here.

But if that doesn’t work, maybe a lesser alternative comparable to your ‘fnargle’ example is if we did something like we do for murder, and created classes of it (1st degree, 2nd degree, etc.). I suspect that might cause as many problems as it solves, and I don’t support that idea, but I think it comes close to being a realistic version of your fnargle example.

  • Philip Hansen

    @3

I don’t know much of the details, but I wager it isn’t actually used as a knockout drug. MDMA is (in my teenage culture) referred to as the “love drug”, because you tend to get very affectionate when under the influence. Given the context, I would think that is the motivation, because it would (I think) make it easy to coerce the victim to even be enthusiastic. Regarding the adverse effects, I consistently get clattering teeth, semi-hallucinations and severe trouble sleeping when coming down from the high. The same goes for those I know who have tried it, but it doesn’t to my knowledge occur with frequency until the very end of the high, which can last for several hours. One thing that also happens consistently is restless jaws – which I suspect is why the clattering comes near the end. While under the influence I have a strong urge to chew gum or smoke, just to have some ongoing oral sensation.

Now that I’ve expounded on my experience, I just wanna clarify that I’ve tried MDMA twice in my life, it isn’t by any means a regular thing.

  • Dark Jaguar

You SNUCK a drug into someone’s drink, and you did this because you knew if you told her she’d say she didn’t want you to do that. You had sex with her while she was unconscious because you knew she would say no if she was conscious.

Every step of the way, you were manipulating someone else against their will for your own ends. Stop being terrible.
