Gay Rights and Nazi Germany. Yes, Again.

Even by Christian right standards, Linda Harvey of Mission America is particularly bigoted and ridiculous. And like her fellow wingnuts, absolutely everything reminds her of Nazi Germany even if it is, in fact, the exact opposite of what Nazi Germany did. Like protecting gay people against discrimination? Just like Hitler.

“This is all part of the strong-armed bullying of those who are determined to force everyone in America to serve the interests of homosexuals,” she said, pointing to “an intensive effort to retaliate against the [bridal] shop with homosexual supporters posting unfavorable and surely mostly dishonest reviews” online.

“You thought you lived in the USA of 2014, not Germany in 1936, right?” she added.

Yes, of course. I’m sure we all remember that before Hitler put hundreds of thousands of gay people to death in the concentration camps, he first made sure they were protected against discrimination in employment, housing and public accommodation. It’s in all the history books.

It is widely known that Hitler owned a chain of bridal gown shops. He personally designed and made all the gowns in his spare time.

It is Nazi-Tourette’s syndrome. Anything that they don’t like, Hitler did first.

And modeled them too (IIRR) …or was that J Edgar Vacuumcleaner?

Exactly. That was when the phrase “Say Yes to the Dress!” first took on its dark and ominous tones.

Now you’re just being ridiculous. He gave them Special Rights, by killing them along with everybody else!

…to serve the interests of homosexuals….

Yeah, not being fired from a job without cause, not being evicted from your home without a reason, being served in a business as long as you’re not disrupting things…these are pretty much the same interestests everyone has.

    They have standards?

  • cptdoom

Yes, of course. I’m sure we all remember that before Hitler put hundreds of thousands of gay people to death in the concentration camps,

Now, now, let’s not exaggerate. According to Wikipedia, a mere few thousand gay men perished in concentration camps, in part because gay men were not sent to the death camps, just the camps with poor sanitation, poor food and no medical care to speak of. They didn’t kill the gays, they just let them die.

As for Ms. Harvey, apparently she’s unaware that current federal and state law already require “Christians” to violate their “religious beliefs” by serving all kinds of people whose lives they don’t happen to support. Jews, Mormons, even Catholics, for crying out loud, are protected by those laws.

Meanwhile – the Fundie Churches suffer the ever increasing accelerating loss of parishioners suckers, particularly in the under the age of 30 age bracket. Go Linda, go!!

cptdoom “According to Wikipedia, a mere few thousand gay men perished in concentration camps…”

cptdoom, to be fair, since The Power of Gay makes a single homosexual as powerful as a hundred Normal People, Ed is technically correct.

“…in part because gay men were not sent to the death camps, just the camps with poor sanitation, poor food and no medical care to speak of. They didn’t kill the gays, they just let them die. “

Ah hah! That’s exactly what I meant in comment #6! Special Rights!

@8 Of course Christians have standards, lots of them. In fact they each have their own set and no two Christians will agree on what their standards are only that they are very important.

They’re even forced to serve people with excessive melanin, making baby Jesus cry.

I’m not sure that she’s saying that Hitler was pro-gay (although it’s hard to tell — that is a current meme in conservative circles). I think she’s saying that anti-discriminations laws and bad internet reviews are exactly the same thing as sending millions of people to death camps and starting major war.

    She’s joking. It’s just a Godwin-Poe.
