Witch Hunts in Zimbabwe, Too

The witch hunts in Africa are not limited to countries in the north, it seems. Zimbabwe also has a real problem with witch hunters coming in to villages and selling their services to rid them of demons, goblins and witches. One can only imagine how many people are being victimized by their actions.

WITCH-HUNTERS have reportedly invaded Chirumanzu district causing a lot of havoc among villagers, NewZimbabwe.com can reveal. The witch-hunters, commonly called tsikamutandas, claim to have powers to kill goblins, cleanse witches and other vices…

Belief in witch-craft and the supernatural is widespread in Zimbabwe despite the majority of the people professing to be Christian.

Despite?

But some villagers who spoke on condition they are not named, castigated the tsikamutandas and the village heads for conniving to fleece people of their hard-earned livestock.

“Everyone is being forced to be part of this whether you are a Christian or not and this is against our church doctrines,” said one villager.

“We are asked to pay cash, chickens, goats, sheep and cattle. We strongly suspect that village heads are conniving with the tsikamutandas because, at the end of the day, some of them are given money as tokens of appreciation.

“Police came here but they immediately disappeared after they met the tsikamutanda privately,” said a villager.

But one of the witch-hunters, only identified as Sekuru Tina, defended their actions saying they are bona fide healers registered with the Zimbabwe National Traditional Healers Association (Zinatha).

“We are not bogus; police were here and we produced all the papers that are required,” Sekuru Tina said.

“We are professional traditional healers and we have been invited to cleanse these villages of tokoloshis, goblins, witches and mubobobo.

Oh, you’re “professionals.” Why didn’t you say so? I’m sure you’re totally on the up-and-up, then.

Zimbabwe National Traditional Healers Association (Zinatha)? Nice. That is not easy to get into. You have to beat the dragon on level 7 on hard difficulty and be a level 10 (at least) cleric or wizard to join that guild. I guess these guys ARE legit!

“Police came here but they immediately disappeared after they met the tsikamutanda privately,” said a villager.

I’m sure some money changed hands here.

It’s also widespread in Zambia, Kenya and South Africa among others. But it doesn’t help with demonizing Muslims so who cares?

Convert or be exorcised. And if that doesn’t work then be executed.

I got some tokoloshis in a database configuration once; had to reformat the whole drive. AND sacrifice a goat!

I saw Witch Hunters in Zimbabwe. It’s one of Roger Cormen’s better movies.

We are professional traditional healers and we have been invited to cleanse these villages of tokoloshis, goblins, witches and mubobobo.

Well, normally I’d readily dismiss that claim, but…

“Police came here but they immediately disappeared after they met the tsikamutanda privately,” said a villager.

…apparently the policemen were really tokoloshis, goblins and mubobobo. Which would at least explain their willingness to still prop up the Mugabe regime.

    From the article:

Some Zimbabweans believe some men practice mubobobo, a technique they claim allows men to be intimate with women without being identified.

And some people believe in virgin births. Go figure!

But I like the name “mubobobo” better … somehow it seems more descriptive.

So just like Europe in the good old days.

Or every other place on planet Earth, inhabited by Homo sapiens. And don’t think for a second that those times could never come back.

Well, the answer is obvious! Zimbabwe National Witch Hunter Removal Association!
