AFA Commits ‘Economic Terrorism’ Against Target

The American Family Association is calling for a boycott of Target for submitting a brief urging the Supreme Court to rule in favor of marriage equality (the Christian right calls this “economic terrorism” when done by liberals). They don’t think their members should support a company that is “making a mockery of God’s Word.”

Target has filed legal briefs in two court cases intended to win marriage rights for homosexuals and lesbians. The cases are being weighed by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh District.

“It is our belief that everyone should be treated equally under the law, and that includes rights we believe individuals should have related to marriage,” Target Executive Vice President of Human Resources Jodee Kozlak wrote on the company’s blog.

While other companies are choosing to remain neutral in the culture war, Target is going all out to support homosexual marriage.

This is a company whose leaders make a mockery of marriage. They make a mockery of God’s Word – and every Christian in this nation should let Target know it is out of step with the majority of Americans who support natural marriage.

Are you going to give Target your money, knowing they’ll use it to undermine your deeply held beliefs?

But here’s the thing: Target is one of 30 companies that signed on to that brief, which you can read here. If you’re going to boycott one, you should boycott them all. The list includes Amazon, Cisco and Oracle, which means they’d pretty much have to stop using the internet. Which would be great, wouldn’t it?

Of course they won’t boycott Amazon, who else will sell their books?

Uh, Ed – Intel is on that list. Intel has something like 90% market share in server CPUs. Which basically means Intel is everywhere in every company above a three person family business, and so that means Teh Gay has the Good Christians surrounded.

The bigots basically have to stop using computers, period. Even if they unplugged their home computers from the internet, they’d have to go out of their way to make sure they’re using a non-Intel processor or chipset. And Apple uses Intel CPUs now, so that means no fruity computers.

On top of that, Intel is making inroads into the mobile market, so they’ll also need to be careful which smartphones they purchase.

Uh, oh … Intel too. There goes the majority of computers, phones, etc.

Well, computers aren’t mentioned in the Bible, anyway. Good Christians shouldn’t have anything to do with them.

    Dear AFA,

Thank you so very much for this boycott! Please keep up the good work of reminding all of America that to be a good Christian you must discriminate against and hate Ellen DeGeneris, Neil Patrick Harris, Jim Parsons, and George Takai. And also that they mustn’t watch Modern Family. As an atheist, I can’t think of any better way to diminish the influence of Christianity than what you are doing.

    Excelsior!

The AFA got one thing right. The majority of Americans (somewhere between 55 and 60% according to most recent polls) do support natural marriage. If by “natural marriage” the AFA means a marriage between two adults who love each other.

Well, like Gordon Klingenschmitt would say, “Computers are full of daemons!”

  • Chiroptera

Does the AFA need allies? I hear there’s a million moms who are also, uh, targeting Target.

As ridiculous as the AFA is, what exactly was the reason for Target and those other corporations to file an amicus brief? Ignoring for a moment the theory that corporations are people, my friend, what principles are they invoking that, as for-profit companies, they have some sort of insight into?

And then there is Cummins, just think no more giant fumaceous dually pickups rollin’ coal; and…and…and…

Pfizer, hope they’ve that layin’ on of hands thing down pat.

All people, regardless of sexual orientation or marriage status, are potential customer$ and potential employee$.

I was a bit surprised to see Staples on that list. Isn’t Bain Capital still running that company?

Also, the followers of AFA might be shocked to find that Viacom is the parent company of some of their favorite TV stations, such as CMT and SPIKE.

    Heads will be ‘splodin!

I think that they targeted TARGET because it was one company that is instantly recognizable to their base, and since most of them are probably already WalMart shoppers anyway, it’s very easy for them to avoid the hipster TARGET.

I’ll be sure to buy something at TARGET when I’m out shopping with my daughter this weekend!

More people allowed to marry -> More weddings -> More wedding gifts -> $$$$$$$$$$

Businesses like Target also recognize that married people are more stable, and generally happier. A happy workforce is good for business. A lot of big businesses have been recognizing this for quite a while. Being moral is a lot easier when there’s profit in it.

  • whheydt

Hmmm… So now I need to buy the stuff Target sells? Sheesh… On the other hand, i guess it’s okay to keep using my MySQL databases, since Oracle is on the list.

  • Nihilismus

Outerwall Inc. is also one of the companies listed on the amicus brief. They own the Coinstar and Redbox machines. So I guess the bigots can’t use those anymore. If they are consistent with boycotting those who support others they don’t like, then they should also boycott every store that has a Coinstar or Redbox, which is pretty much every supermarket now.

Consider that most of the beer in the USA is brewed by a couple of big multinationals. The largest is based in Europe.

Now, let’s see just how serious these people are about their boycott.
