Palin: Christian Conservatives the ‘Most Slandered Group’

No one throws red meat to the rubes like Sarah Palin. You can always count on her speeches to be almost entirely substance-free and to tell the audience exactly what they want to hear, which is why she was invited back to the Values Voters Summit to tell them that they’re the most slandered group in America:

“I’m speaking to the most slandered group in America today,” Palin said during her appearance at the Value Voters Summit. “Join me in telling the lamestream media, then, that we wear your scorn with pride.”

I think you have that backwards. The Christian right is the most slandering group in America today. To hear them tell it, gay people are pedophiles and Nazis intent on destroying the family, the country and civilization itself. President Obama is a Muslim Marxist Nazi working hard to destroy — you guessed it — the family, the country and civilization itself by letting the terrorists win. For crying out loud, she said this at a conference where comparing Obama to Hitler is done several times every year. Slander is pretty much the only political strategy they have.

Palin also attempted to allude to the White House, but botched the address.

“You don’t retreat — you reload the truth,” she said. “Which I know is an endangered species at 1400 Pennsylvania Avenue, anyway, truth.”

So I guess the good news is that if John McCain had won the 2008 election, she might never have shown up at the actual White House but at the Willard Hotel instead. She immediately followed that up by firing up the troops:

Do these groups pick their names to be intentionally insulting to those who are not members? The Moral Majority, Values Voters, Family Values.

It’s a big middle finger to the opponents, right? “You don’t have values, you’re immoral and you don’t care about family!” What a bunch of dickheads.

“You don’t retreat — you reload the truth,”

Way to try and fit a square peg into a circular bicycle.

  • marcozandrini

    Sarah who?

It’s Saint Orwell’s 1984. 1984 is their instruction manual and one of their sacred holy books.

They’ve really ruined the word “family”. Any organization with family in it is almost certainly anti-family, anti-human, and christofascist.

Add Patriot and American to your list.

These days any group with Patriot in the name is likely to be rabid America haters and flat out fascists.

dugglebogey, they aren’t as good at it as the long running Canadian antifeminist group, REAL Women. You don’t get much more blatant than that, directly implying your opponents aren’t real women.

  • raven

Value Voters has the same ominous sounds as Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (North Korea) or the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith (current name for the Catholic Inquisition).

  • Kevin Kehres

Nobody expects the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith.

But Ed, as our Supreme Court ruled, it’s not slander if they hold a “sincerely held belief” that gays are pedophiles and Nazis or that Obama is a Muslim Marxist Nazi. Just because these things might not be true according to your so-called “facts” doesn’t matter. The only thing that matters is that they have a sincerely held belief.

  • caseloweraz

It is my sincerely held belief that Sarah Palin has gotten much more than her allotted 15 minutes of fame and that she should be required to relinquish the podium.

marcozandrini — Sarah Frankenheimer(‘s monster) just ask SLC.

It’s only slander if it’s true obviously. Stop slandering conservatives, ie making criticism. Jerks.

  • petemoulton

Kevin@#8: just doesn’t have the same ring, does it?

  • Michael Heath

I know of no group easier to criticize and ridicule in American without resorting to slander.

For reasonable people that are well-informed, all that’s often needed is to merely quote what conservative Christians state to criticize them. In the past Sarah Palin had described such reportage as being “attacked”, and falsely claimed her speech rights are suppressed.

I’m surprised Sarah Palin didn’t get awarded the Bryan Fischer award today, and become a finalist for this quip as biggest projection of the year.

dingo, I thought it was Sarah Pretzelgruber.

  • busterggi

Christian conservatives being slandered? Let’s see –

    undercurrent of racism? check

    overt homophobia? check

    overt misogyny? check

overt discrimination to believers in other versions of their religion, other religions or no religion? check

promote ignorance and oppose science? check

actively work to disenfranchise minorities from being able to vote? check

actively opposing the Constitutional separation of church & state? check

    promoting authoritative fascistic theocracy? check

When did telling the truth become slander?

  • raven

We don’t slander the rightwing nut fundies.

    1. They slander themselves and often with their own words.

    2. But it isn’t slander. It’s the truth of what they think and believe. If the truth is ugly, that is their problem and no one else’s.

  • theguy

“The Christian right is the most slandering group in America today.”

You took the words out of my mouth. Just look at the psychotic hatred they have for gays, Muslims, poor people, black people, illegal immigrants, non-believers, people who live in liberal coastal states, liberal billionaires (Soros) etc. etc.

  • eric

I think the word you were going for was pandered.

Add Patriot and American to your list.

Also Citizens. When a group has that in the name, it means they don’t have many behind them.

  • http://www.facebook.com/den.wilson d.c.wilson

    eric@19:

If Citizens is in their name, that means they want to prevent certain people from becoming one.

  • lorn

I don’t know which group is the most slandered. I do think that president Obama is the most frequently slandered individual in the media.

  • dan4

@1: To be fair, there’s a very liberal group called People for the American Way. I generally like what the group stands for and enjoy the website they put out (RightWingWatch)…but I really wish they’d change that name.

  • greg1466

To be fair, maybe you can see the White House from the front porch of 1400 Pennsylvania Avenue.
