Atheist Converts to Christianity. Good Riddance.

Remember Ernest Perce, the raging asshole who used to be the president of the Pennsylvania chapter of American Atheists? He’s viciously anti-Semitic, a Holocaust denier and a 9/11 truth. And now he’s apparently converted to Christianity and become a preacher. Good fucking riddance.

One of the men who forced Greencastle-Antrim School District to stop school board-led recitations of The Lord’s Prayer two years ago came back to apologize during last week’s regular meeting.

Ernest Perce V, Harrisburg, had asked Supt. Greg Hoover for permission to speak at the Oct. 2 meeting. He arrived with his two sons and a friend, and when given the floor, explained his dramatic change of heart.

Wearing a white clergy collar against a black shirt, he said he was now a traveling preacher.

“Every day I kick myself at what I did,” Perce told the board members and public in attendance. “Forgive me.”…

“This is a huge turnaround for me,” Perce said.

He stated 35,000 American Christians had been killed for their faith in 2013.

“Why is that holocaust not taught in our schools?” he asked. “I can’t let my kids grow up in a world that will terrorize them.”

He also became convinced, after reading a book by President Dwight D. Eisenhower, that Jesus was not a Jew, the Jewish holocaust never occurred, and 9/11 was caused by “the false state of Israel.” He now leads Jesus Was Not a Jew Ministries, with 40 followers. He and his wife intend to pull their boys, Praise, 12, and Apple, 5, out of public school, to be homeschooled while traveling with them on the preaching circuit.

So he went from being a weapons-grade douchecanoe as an atheist to being a weapons-grade douchecanoe as a Christian. Good riddance to bad trash.

    How bizarre.

  • daved

He stated 35,000 American Christians had been killed for their faith in 2013.

This is a new one on me. I’d bet money at heavy odds it’s totally bogus, too, but does anyone know where it comes from?

I feel sorry for Praise and Apple.

  • D. C. Sessions

He stated 35,000 American Christians had been killed for their faith in 2013.

Was that when Obama nuked one of the Carolinas?

  • matty1

Reading the link it seems he has simply returned to his old ways. He was a preacher for 17 years, an atheist for six, now he is a preacher again.

I’d also like a source on that 35,000 American Christians killed for their faith. There are certainly places in the world where converting to Christianity carries a death sentence and I don’t know enough about how common this is to say if the number is appropriate for any or all of them but America has managed to have religious murder of 35,000 and keep it secret?

He and his wife intend to pull their boys, Praise, 12, and Apple, 5, out of public school, to be homeschooled while traveling with them on the preaching circuit.

Wait, did I miss that this was an Onion article? Holy fuck.

  • dhall

I doubt if Eisenhower would want to take credit for any of that . . .

  • John Pieret

Wait a frickin minute. He was an atheist and named his son “Praise”? Was he a Christian 12 years ago and been bouncing back and forth between Christianity and atheism or was he a “false flag” atheist all along? Inquiring minds don’t really give a shit. It’s nice to know he’ll be tarring Christians by association, instead of atheists … for a while, anyway.

He stated 35,000 American Christians had been killed for their faith in 2013. … “Why is that holocaust not taught in our schools?”

We generally don’t teach an antisemite’s delusions in public schools.

I’m surprised he hasn’t blamed the Deep Rifts caused by SJWs for making him go back to Christianity.

  • matty1

Was he a Christian 12 years ago

    Yes.

    From the linked article

Perce had been a charismatic minister for 17 years before turning atheist. He told the Echo Pilot in 2012 that contradictions in the Bible crushed his faith, and the church did not show the love of Christ. He was an atheist for six years, and then a prophecy turned his life around.

The prophecy by the way isn’t any kind of prediction but a bit of New Testament Jew bashing.

A weapons-grade asshole (and likely narcissist) will find the best medium for his assholery. He tried atheism and decided that it wasn’t as rewarding as preaching so he went back to the preaching. This really has little to do with actual Christianity or atheism; it’s all about finding the loudest megaphone that he can use to spout his idiocy.

I can’t wait to see him on the preaching circuit. With all that baggage, he’s going to need some real skill to stay on the bull for eight seconds.

  • raven

It is great news for atheists at any rate. We could do a good cleanup if a few hundred more converted to xianity. I’ve seen a few atheists who would be much happier, fit in better, and be at home in some ugly fundie xian cult.

This guy just seems totally warped. It is telling that his warped mind fits best with…xianity!!!

  • freehand

This won’t be a handicap at all. Being a reformed sinner is always a draw on the revival tent circuit. (Do they still have those? I’ve been out of touch for the last 50 years.) But if my arithmetic is right, he was an alleged atheist when his second son was born, and still named him Apple. I’ll bet even odds that at least one of the boys runs away to live on the street and renames himself Spike.

    And yes, good riddance.

    Grifters gotta grift.

I bet the time as an “atheist” was mainly a ploy to give him a marketable story for the fundie churches. Like the people who make a living giving paid talks to churches about their time as a “satanist”.

  • Alverant

Maybe that 35k is from traffic accidents going to/from christian events?

Last year a friend died. Her husband was a racist conservative jerk who was also an Atheist. When she died he “found God” and now he’s a racist conservative jerk who’s also a christian. But he had my sympathy because of what happened and I cut him a lot of slack. I even friended him on Facebook (yes, I know I said I’ll never join but I had to so I could link up with friends in one of those silly tablet games) and he posts a lot of religious and anti-islamic crap. (When you start talking about the only way to deal with islamic terrorism is to kill all the muslims, you’ve gone too far.) I’ve about had enough. Over the weekend he posted about how God doesn’t give more than a person can bare. I was very tempted to reply with an Atheist Pig cartoon where he’s talking to a starving African boy about how “christians say God has a wonderful plan for your life” and in the next panel vultures are eating the freshly starved to death boy. But I thought that would be in poor taste (pun unintended).

As matty1 notes, he was a preacher for 17 years, an atheist for six, and now he is a preacher again; or, in Ed‘s idiom, he went from being a weapons-grade douchecanoe as a Christian, to being a weapons-grade douchecanoe as an atheist, and then back to being a weapons-grade douchecanoe as a Christian.

He was also one of the masterminds behind the offensively stupid “slaves obey your masters” billboard.

I’m morbidly curious how he’d do on Sidanius’ SDO measure….

[Ernest Perce] and his wife intend to pull their boys, Praise, 12, and Apple, 5, out of public school, to be homeschooled while traveling with them on the preaching circuit.

    Ed’s conclusion:

So he went from being a weapons-grade douchecanoe as an atheist to being a weapons-grade douchecanoe as a Christian. Good riddance to bad trash.

He appears way worse than a douche, he appears to be a child abuser. Not necessarily in an illegal manner; instead we observe here that Mr. Perce almost assuredly mentally abuses his children.

Our culture remains in deep denial regarding the abuse inflicted on the children of evangelical and fundamentalists – even liberals avoid confronting this fact. Perhaps because there appears to be few to no viable legislative acts available. Act that would require infringing upon these parents’ rights in order to protect these children from the abuse they and future children will suffer. Especially in a society that’s more apt to protect the exercise of religion even when the competing rights of others are infringed upon.

Future generations will be appalled at how we looked away from the legally sanctioned mental abuse inflicted on the children of fundamentalists. The best outcome is that our arguments continue to win the day to the point there are no evangelical or fundie churches because there’s no demand for them. The odds of this happening soon is on a par with evangelicals and fundamentalists becoming honest.

Ya’know, people can argue back and forth about the finer points of the Bible but even a casual and unbelieving reader has to conclude that Jesus was a devout and practicing Jew. He, and his followers, observe the holy days, the strictures, and make the appropriate sacrifices. There simply isn’t any other answer if you are going to claim the Bible as a holy book. The only reasonable excuses for not accepting that come down to ignorance of what is in your holy book or a perverse desire to deceive. Given his claims about the holocaust and 9/11 I assume it is more the later than the former.

He also became convinced, after reading a book by President Dwight D. Eisenhower, that Jesus was not a Jew, the Jewish holocaust never occurred, and 9/11 was caused by “the false state of Israel.”

The Wikipffft article on Eisenhower alludes to him writing two books: Crusade in Europe (1948) and At Ease: Stories I Tell Friends (1967). Neither mentions any discussion of events in 2001.

Ed Brayton, I still see you are a pandering fool to the Jew just as you were when you called for my my “ass whipping” on our facebook page when I thoroughly crushed you debating the holocaust and proving you lack critical thinking skills.

It’s really amazing you can mentally whip weak minded atheists, but you can’t figure out simple mathematics exposing the holocaust as a scam. You must be a kike Canaanite Jew!

Any person with half a brain that operates correctly, can clearly see that the holocaust of six million Canaanite joos is a complete scam.

You’re not a skeptic, you’re not a free thinker. You’re just a person who shuts down and blocks when you’re proven wrong as screen shots of our dialogue prior you turning into an arsenal of character assassinations can be seen on my website. You simply bow down to anyone with a Jewish name in fear of truth.

Here’s an atheist that proves you absolutely stupid for defending the illegal taxation of a religion called the holocaust/holohoax.

Gee, I wonder if you will treat this atheist with threats of assault and character assassinations as you did me for exposing the holocaust. This atheist is seriously wrong on so many points on his website, but he nails the holocaust.

Still, he makes all of your work look like childish ranting stupidity, which is all you can apparently do.

The holocaust is a scam and you know it.

  • E Perce

    By the way, Ed Brayton,

When did you start believing in Noah’s flood? I thought you were an atheist who denies that the flood took place?! This is excellent news that you believe in Noah’s son Shem from where the “Semites” come from. We must announce this publicly.

Ed Brayton of FTB believes in Noah’s flood by invoking Noah’s sons, the Shemites/Semites.

Funny, an atheist invokes a biblical story and a biblical phrase to mock a person. Never thought I’d see that so fast, but being your a hypocrite, I knew it would happen.

Let us get this straight, in the very first sentence you admit that Noah is real by invoking the ” anti-Semite” card on me to shame and ridicule me for being an “antisemite.” Again, you completely lack critical thinking and historical knowledge.

It is supposed to be the atheist who is an Anti-Semite believing that Noah’s sons didn’t exist.

Jews were never Semitic people, for the Jews are not Anglo- Saac’s sons.

1980 Jewish almanac, page 3 ” Identity crisis” the opening line, Judes admit they are not Shem’s children, the Semites. “Strictly speaking it is incorrect to call an ancient “Jew” an Israelite or Hebrew or to call a contemporary Jew and Israelite or Hebrew.”

Ed Brayton is a believer of Noah’s flood, or else why use the term “anti-Semite (Shem) against the children of Shem.

Mr Perce has popped up in the news again, this time suing a local school district because a teacher at his child’s middle school is wearing a Star of David and he feels offended. This is ridiculous. He is ridiculous. Schools can’t teach religion, but teachers are absolutely allowed the freedom to practice their own beliefs, and wear the emblems of said faith. For example, we cannot ask a Sikh to remove their turban and cut their hair just to accommodate this man’s discomfort at seeing something different.

So Yeshua ben Yusef of Nazareth wasn’t a Jew. So the claim in the Christian Bible that he was circumcised on the 8th day after his birth (counting birth day as day 1) , which we now know as New Year’s Day, is a prevarication. Who would have thunk it.

By the way, since you are a 9/11 truther, how by explaining what happened to the folks who were on the airplanes that didn’t crash in Pennsylvania or hit the Pentagon? They seem to have vanished. In particular, where’s Barbara Olsen, allegedly on the plane that didn’t crash into the Pentagon?
