Gohmert: I’m Rubber and You’re Glue!

Louis Gohmert went on Glenn Beck’s show and made a monumentally stupid claim that because two female nurses have been infected by Ebola in Texas, this shows that the Democrats have declared war on women. Because, of course, it’s official Democratic party policy and has nothing to do with the fact that the hospital, which has nothing to do with Democrats, didn’t have proper procedures in place to handle an Ebola case.

“You know, it’s a shame that the CDC head, Frieden, is apparently the commander of the Democrats’ new war on women nurses,” Gohmert opined. “Because, goodnight, they set them up, and then they throw them under the bus.”

“The idiot comes out and says that clearly she had violated protocol,” the Texas congressman continued. “At least in football, they have to tell you what you violated.”

In fact, they did have lousy protocols. But what the hell does that have to do with Democrats? Nothing. But this is part of the Republican party’s “I know you are but what am I?” strategy. If you accuse them of a war on women, they accuse you of the same thing, no matter how obviously ridiculous their arguments are to support that accusation.

“I know you are but what am I?” strategy

Gohmert has a strategy? I’d have thought that required a minimal amount of intelligence.

  • blf

    Gohmert has a strategy?

    Open mouth to breathe.

  • D. C. Sessions

The “ruber/glue” thing is only used for damage control. They much prefer getting in a pre-emptive attack. For instance, before calling for cuts to SNAP, they run a program accusing Democrats of a nefarious scheme to starve children.

the fact that the hospital, which has nothing to do with Democrats, didn’t have proper procedures in place to handle an Ebola case.

    1. They didn’t break the barrier protocols. They didn’t even have any protocols!!!

    2. It’s slowly coming out what they did. Which is basically nothing.

The nurses had zero training. They just threw together a haphazard collection of Personal Protection Equipment which wasn’t the best for this virus. They had no idea what to do with the biohazard waste, which BTW, is a routine chore that a lot of people know about.

    3. It is possible to treat Ebola patients without gettting it yourself. MSF in Africa has one month continuous rotations and have had very few cases of Ebola.

They want two weeks of training and rigid, observed adherence to their protocols. It works. It isn’t anything like what that hospital in Dallas did.

    4. Even the CDC, when they aren’t dropping balls have figured this out. They moved the second nurse Ebola case to Maryland. It’s quite clear they didn’t want to run an Ebola case factory in Dallas any more.

PS There is a rumor going around that Thomas Duncan wasn’t admitted the first time because…he didn’t have health insurance, having just come in from Liberia. This is just a rumor, might be true, might not be.

I’m going to be very surprised in their aren’t more cases in Dallas from Thomas Duncan.

    1. He stayed with ca. 5 people in one apartment in Dallas, even after he became sick. This is one transmission chain.

    2. Texas Presbyterian hospital had no idea what they were doing. They managed to let two nurses get infected. I wouldn’t be surprised if more come from them. Another transmission chain.

    3. The key metric here is R, the number of people one patient infects. R below one, the cases go away. R greater than one, cases go up. Right now we are at an R of two. Not good.

I’m surprised he wasn’t ranting about anchor ebola.

Those powerful democrats who have total control in DALLAS TEXAS are at it again….

  • D. C. Sessions

Those who are interested in the infectious disease protocols can look up what Mark Crislip has to say on the subject. His hospitals in Portland OR are nowhere near the status of Presbyterian in Dallas — but Crislip is quite pleased with their preparedness for ebola, should they get unlucky.

And Crislip (for those of you who follow him) is not an easy dude to make happy.

Gohmert, whose IQ is in the single digits, should be pointing a finger at Texas Governor switch hitting Rick Perry.

  • busterggi

I caught part of the nurse’s interview – it sounds as though their protocols were designed by Drs. Howard, Fine and Howard. My microbio lab back in the’70’s had better control. Who regulates hospitals in Texas or is it left up to the free market?

Joe Barton is making a run at Gohmert’s title as stupidest congressman by insisting ISIS and Hamas are conspiring to use Ebola suicide terrorists coming across the Mexican border

  • vmanis1

Rep. Gohmert was a contestant on an episode of Are You Smarter Than A Broccoli Floret. He came in second.

I believe it’s the first nurse, Nina Pham, who’s been moved.

Might not be true, but I’m absolutely certain it is.

    Switch hitting?

  • chilidog99

The two cases of ebola contracted in the U. S. were by people who were helping other people.

Republicans have nothing to worry about.

Also called AC/DC. Refers to people who swing both ways sexually.

Ah, I see. So you mention that to make a little poke at Perry? So being bisexual is kind of a little insulting joke for you. I see. I just wanted to clear that up so that when it comes to my own bisexuality I’ll just keep it to myself.

Ed: Louis Gohmert went on Glenn Beck’s show and made a monumentally stupid claim…

It’s only novel if he makes a claim that is not monumentally stupid — which AFAIK has never happened.

Thanks. I’m looking at a pile of wood splinters that used to be my desk.

    Re danrobinson @ #17

That’s reserved for closeted men like Perry who gay bash. Closeted folks who gay bash (e.g. people like Matt Drudge) are hypocrites and deserve no consideration.

  • Holms

    @20

And on what basis do you claim to know that Perry is secretly bi? Hopefully you have something more than that old and empty pop psych canard, that people that dislike homosexuality are secretly gay themselves.

  • colnago80

    Re Holms @ #21

Perry’s switching hitting is an open secret in Texas. In fact, there was a comment on this blog some time ago from a follower in Texas of this blog who seemed to be knowledgeable on the subject. There are numerous sites which can be found with a little Googling discussing this issue. Ordinarily, I wouldn’t give a shit as it is his private business; however, because he gay bashes, IMHO, he has forfeited his right to privacy. However, the attitude of the lamestream media seems to be that they won’t touch the story unless or until he is caught in flagrante.

  • Holms

Rumours, therefore attack him for being bi. Cool.

  • colnago80

    Re Holms @ #23

Smoke doesn’t necessarily mean that there’s fire but there is a lot of smoke relative to Perry.
