Klingenschmitt, Glenn Win State Seats

Everyone focuses on Congress at election time, but as I’ve said many times if you want the truly bizarre you have to look at state legislatures. Two of the most loathsome candidates imaginable, both of whom I have a bit of history with, won their seats — Gary Glenn here in Michigan and Gordon Klingenschmitt in Colorado.

Gary Glenn is the head of the American Family Association of Michigan and he won a seat in the Michigan House of Representatives. He’s publicly said that he favors putting gay people in jail and supports pretty much every regressive policy in existence. He’s a vile bigot, but in today’s Republican party that is often a positive thing at election time.

Klingenschmitt, of course, is the disgraced former chaplain and pathological liar who thinks he can discern which specific demons are possessing people he’s never met. He won a seat in the Colorado House of Representatives by a better than 2-1 margin. That’s not a surprise, of course. His district is extremely conservative. I believe it includes Colorado Springs, which is pretty much the Christian right Mecca. Here’s one of my favorite Klingenschmitt clips, where he tries to cast a demon out of President Obama:

"Perhaps she shares Roy Moore's Lawyer... (The Matyrbation Circuit isn't as profitable as it once ..."

Palin’s Pointless Appeal
"???Most likely the final bill will keep the charitable itemized deduction for the churches!!!And kill ..."

Republican Tax Bill Will Reduce Charitable ..."

Hopefully, they will be very vocal in their new positions, so that their bizarre beliefs can be exposed and mocked throughout the land.

Sure, but if Conservatives are extremists for voting in these “extremists”, what does that make you Liberals, with your own extreme extremists like Mike Beebe, Jerry Brown, John Hickenlooper, Dannel Malloy, Jack Markell, Neil Abercrombie, Pat Quinn, Steve Beshear, Martin O’Malley, Deval Patrick, Mark Dayton, Jay Nixon, Steve Bullock, Maggie Hassan, Andrew Cuomo, John Kitzhaber, Lincoln Chafee, Peter Shumlin, Terry McAuliffe, Jay Inslee and Earl Ray Tomblin, who hate America and everything it stands for, like America and Freedom and America?

There have been a lot of awful people elected to state legislatures this year. Addicting Info singles out Michael Peroutka of Maryland as the very worst.

Apologies, Peroutka was elected to a county board, not the Maryland legislature. Still…

Klingenschmitt… can discern which specific demons are possessing people he’s never met.

What difference do the people make? He’s already met the demons.

I’ve commented elsewhere on how disgusted I was to learn that Scott Lively received over 19,000 votes in the MA governor’s race. Not dozens of votes, or hundreds, but over 19,000. That’s 19,000 of my neighbors who think that throwing gay people and their advocates in jail is a good idea, apparently.

Didn’t help Martha Coakley who lost a statewide race for the 2nd time in one of the bluest states in the country. When are the Democrats going to stop running a loser like her.

Ah, yes. Colorado Springs, home of the Air Force Academy, and within ten miles, HQ of Blur, er… Focus on The Family. Still, driving through Garden of The Gods (note the plural), I did see a bumper sticker that said, “Focus on your own damned family.”

Mark Dayton, really? If he’s a wild eyed liberal, then I’m so far off the chart that I’m carried over two pages down. We’ve had a Dem. governor, house and senate here in MN and topics which have a 60 or 70% approval rating can’t get done here. Sure, we got billionaires a new football stadium, but ending the trapping of wolves? Nah. Funding the state’s clean water act? Nah.

Dayton is a centrist rich guy. Better than what we had before, just not crazy liberal and really not looking for a fight.
