Land Demands a Moratorium on Judicial Confirmations

The Republicans have taken control of the Senate and the wingnuts have all kinds of great ideas for what they should do now. Former Southern Baptist Convention leader Richard Land says they should declare a two-year moratorium on confirming judges.

Land said that Senate Republicans need to simply inform Obama that there is now “a two year moratorium on any confirmation of federal judges.”

“The American people have lost confidence in your leadership as president,” Land recommend that the GOP tell Obama, “and we’re going to not confirm any judicial nominations in the Senate until after the American people have had an opportunity to elect a new president.”

Can you even imagine what the Republicans would say if the Democrats did this? They’d be calling for them to be hanged for treason.

The Democrats have a lame duck senate majority for several weeks now and the so-called ‘nuclear option’ in play. They should make it one off their top priorities to ram through as many judicial appointments as possible.

Not being a thug is “treason”. It is also “atheist”, “Muslim”, “science”, “AGW”, “not in your place”, and “bogeyman”. Probably also gives you Ebola, Teh Gay, and a positive IQ. Known to not require mouth-breathing.

Actually, I suspect that the qualifications for Senate confirmation will include age. Obama may get away with appointing Federal judges over the age of 90, or younger if they have terminal cancer.

“The American people have lost confidence in your leadership as president,” Land

Land proves xianity is just mythology.

The leadership of the SBC are all vile, vaguely humanoid toads especially their “theologian”, Al Mohler and Land, the former head.

A little over half of the American people who voted, voted GOP in this off year election. Which had the lowest turnout in recent history, since WW II. Most didn’t even vote!!! And Obama did win two presidential elections by decent margins.

Since Land’s kooky perversion of xianity, the fundies and his own cult are losing members for almost a decade now, maybe it is time for him to shut up and go away.

NPR Robert Siegel: Edited for length

In the past two presidential elections, around 130 million Americans cast votes. In the midterms four years ago, 91 million voters took part. That number represented 42 percent of the American population of voting age.

But as of today, according to numbers from the Associated Press, a bit over 83 million people voted.

As a share of the voting-eligible population, that is 36.6 percent.

We are all still stunned and trying to figure out who in the hell voted for the christofascists and oligarches of the Tea Party/GOP. Those who aren’t trying to emigrate or stocking up the bunker anyway.

Sooner or later we will know.

    1. As a share of the voting-eligible population, that is 36.6 percent.

Voter turnout was very low, lowest since WWII. And of course, it was mostly groups that normally favor Democrats, young and nonwhites.

So put down apathy or indifference or cynicism or loss of hope.

    2. The rapidly shrinking middle class, It’s the economy, stupid.

    3. Racism, fear, and hate.

Those are my theories. I’m sure the data to support or not will be along in the next few months.

You insult toads–and all other amphibians by association–by comparing them to these swine.

    But now I’ve insulted pigs.

Nah. What it’s really time for is for the media to stop paying attention to him and similar people. When kooks make pronouncements, that’s no reason to print headlines.

Of course, that assumes journalists actually doing a decent job of being, you know, journalists … and not peons whose only interest is making money for whatever corporation they happen to work, or further the political interests of whatever owner that corporation has. So, some time next century?

Republicans Got Only 52 Percent of the Vote in House Races

    52% of voters were GOP.

    37% of voting eligibles voted.

Means 19.2% of the voting eligible population “lost faith in Obama’s leadership” and showed it by voting. That is hardly as Land states, the American people. Land is so used to lying, he has long ago forgot what the truth is.

Did he say the same thing when Dubya lost the Senate and the House on 2006?

Also, I’m rather annoyed that there was something that could have been done to turn around congress. Mostly by kicking out the shitheads gridlocking with their tea parties and other distractions.

Then can we start impeaching Republican senators for refusing to perform the duties of their office?

…unless it’s a Democrat and then we won’t confirm those either.

The president’s approval rating is three times of Congress. And Republicans built that 13 percent* job approval.

Next time the Reptilicans hold us hostage on the debt ceiling we may see whether Congress can actually sink into negative popularity.

Not to mention that Obama has been slammed for six years by the most vile and false accusations and smears — up to and including that his wife is a transgender female and the two kids were bought for $10 from some crackhead in a Chicago housing project — from the good Christians.

    * Who the fuck is it in that 13 percent? I want a list. I have prime Idaho oceanfront property I will let them have for cheap.

Can you even imagine what the Republicans would say if the Democrats did this?

We probably don’t have to imagine too long. The first time Obama uses his veto power on a GOP “get rid of ACA” bill, I’m sure they’ll be proclaiming all sorts of things.

Though it would be gallow-humor funny if the President issued a “moratorium on legislation” in response, promising to veto all bills until his judicial nominations are approved.
