Peterson Thinks Someone Else’s Parents Failed

Jesse Lee Peterson, the fascist and misogynist right wing preacher and talk show host, says that he doesn’t feel a bit sorry for Michael Brown’s parents because they failed to raise him right. This from a guy whose parents raised him to hate women so much that he thinks they shouldn’t have the right to vote.

Peterson went on to blame Brown’s parents, who he said should be “shunned” because they “failed to raise a decent citizen”:

“Also, his parents are hypocrites because, first of all, they didn’t raise Michael Brown in the right way. They failed him. They failed to raise a decent citizen. And so they’re partly responsible for the death of Michael Brown as well. And I have to tell you, the way the president, the attorney general, and these so-called civil rights leaders are carrying on is shameful. Michael Brown’s parents should be shunned, they should be made to feel embarrassed for the way that they raised, that they raised their son.”

Let’s start by shunning your parents. And you. And everyone who thinks like you.

    So, uh, Brown’s parents are partially to blame for his death because, like quite a few teenaged boys, he may have done something dumb (shoplifting) that one time? And they’re partially to blame for him happening to encounter a police officer who decided he wasn’t going to tolerate young black men jaywalking?

    Pull the other one, it’s got bells on.

    The Cleveland Police have done much the same in the Tamir Rice case by bringing up his parents criminal records. As if to say, it’s because of their criminal past, that their son is dead.

    So making statements about the horrific atrocities of White people from history gets you branded as a racist and is cause for outrage because the present White people didn’t have anything to do with all that stuff. But it’s perfectly okay to insinuate that when Black kids get shot by the police it’s because of the things their parents did wrong.

    Anybody’s kid can shoplift. They rebel, they are bored and thrill-seeking, or they follow the crowd to fit in with peers. It’s part of growing up, and most parents and even authority figures realize this.

    For years, the white kid who shoplifts has been given a lecture and possibly a scare by his/her parents, possibly with the help of the authorities, while the child of color is arrested and placed in the juvenile system. Now, it has escalated to the point that the police have appointed themselves as judge, jury and executioner of those children of color that make a common mistake.

    This Peterson guy should see this and should be blaming the system, not the parents.

    Magistramarla, I must register my objection to your characterization of kids. When I was a kid, I didn’t shoplift because I was bored, following the crowd or wanting a thrill – I did it because I wanted that shit and didn’t want or have the money to pay for it.

    In a country where +/-78% of the populace claim some christian affiliation in belief…tis but a grim indictment that they have failed abysmally to understand, let alone grasp, the christian tenets that they all boast they live by.

    Seems not one church, not one pastor, minister, padre, reverend, father, priest, preacher, in the whole country has had the courage, fortitude, or integrity to challenge that statement.

    And not one of them has offered a tangible and practical solution to such issues.

    Maybe there is no answer, and no solution, that is possible sadly, but posing and acting as the outraged finger pointing bigot proud dumbass is certainly not any kind of answer,

    And certainly in allowing such toxic simplistic rhetoric to go unchallenged and unremarked then the combined clergy of hundreds of different xtian cults, that ostensibly claim to deliver the same message more or less, are as much a failure, if not more so given their pompous christian privilege advantage, in what happened to that victim of hysterical policing then any parent.

    All of them that remain silent are the de facto cause of the social unrest that inevitably followed the incident not the cure.

    Bitter recriminations of the family, individuals even environment might play well in a right wing media and appeal to brain dead righteous prigs…but it does absolutely nothing worthwhile in the grander scheme of things.

    Maybe the real agenda is to encourage the misery, anger and desperation so that they can then promote the old doctrine of ‘ see this is what happens when god is ignored better send money so I can march triumphant and save their souls’

    Repeated in various formulaic translations in every pulpit the length and breadth of the US.

    By their works you will know them indeed!
