Arkansas Legislator Wants to Nuke Iraq

Arkansas state Senator Jason Rapert is, beyond a doubt, one of the dumbest and most extreme far-right figures in Republican politics. He’s given to all manner of bizarre declarations, including a recent Facebook post in which he says that we should use nuclear weapons against ISIS in Iraq.

With ISIS spreading all over the Middle East and Africa and Islamic Extremists carrying out violence in Europe, The United Kingdom and even in the United States, I wonder why the civilized world just sits by when we have weapons that could wipe out these barbarians where they are concentrated? I believe it is time to annihilate the strongholds and pursue the rest till we have them all captured or killed. A strategically placed nuclear weapon would save the lives of our soldiers and quickly turn things around. It is time for the insanity to be stopped.

Yeah, that’s a great idea. Let’s drop nuclear weapons on Iraq, where they will also kill Shiites and Kurds along with the Sunnis in ISIS. He apparently doesn’t realize that nuclear bombs are not exactly pinpoint weapons that only kill the people they’re aimed at. To turn the stupidity up to 11, he then responded to criticism of this idiotic plan with this:

Seems liberals even love ISIS more than stopping them cold in their tracks. They truly amaze me with their anti-American arguments. Bizarre.

Yes, if you don’t want to drop nuclear weapons on countries that we are allies with, you obviously love ISIS and are anti-American. Those are clearly the only two possible responses, nukes or you hate America. How do these fucking idiots get elected? Oh yeah, it’s Arkansas.

What an idiotic plan. All that’ll do is make ISIS Hulk. Then Godzilla will get involved, and the next thing you know there’s instability and chaos in the Middle East!

  • dingojack

I’m sure certain commenters here could get behind such a sentiment completely without qualms…

  • John Pieret

And you said there is no good conservative comedy.*

It’ll stay comedy as long as numbnutz doesn’t get elected to higher office. After all, as I understand it, Arkansas’ nuclear arsenal is pretty small.

Actually, his idea makes sense. It is a scaled-up version of use of dynamite to solve my carpenter ant problem in my kitchen baseboards.

  • Alverant

Once you realize that all mulsims are either terrorists or future terrorists his remarks make perfect sense.

Oh, they’re the worst. I’d go to the kitchen for breakfast in the morning and find they’d made little tables and cabinets and put them everywhere. I mean, come on! Veneer on LDF? Ornamental dovetails? Have some pride in your work, carpenter ants!

    … their anti-American arguments.

Ergo, “America” = atomic genocide at Armageddon levels.

    You betcha!

Isn’t Christianity a religion of peace!?!?

This isn’t all that uncommon an opinion. When I was in the Air Force, I heard many other airman say that to “fix” the Middle East, we should just nuke the whole place. I think the that legislator knows that nukes aren’t pinpoint – that’s his point. He wants to kill all of those brown people.

  • grumpyoldfart

As General Turgidson once said: “I’m not saying we wouldn’t get our hair mussed, but I do say no more than 10 or 20 million killed – tops – depending on the breaks”

  • http://en.uncyclopedia.co/wiki/User:Modusoperandi Modusoperandi

mkoormtbaalt, that’s nothing. When I was in the Air Force we were all “Mraaaaaaw! Ak-ak-ak-ak-ak! Vroooo! Ak-ak-ak-ak-ak! [bomb whistling sound]! Kaboom!”

We were pretty bad ass. Then we got planes, and that took all the fun out of it.

Like #9 says, that’s a feature, not a bug. And if we happen to get a few Christian in the process, God will sort it out.

  • karmacat

Maybe somebody should tell him that a nuclear weapon attack on Iraq would also affect Saudi Arabia and Israel. He must hate America because he will end up with increased gas prices

  • jnorris

Given that Mr Obama is not going to nuke anyone, Mr Rapert must petition Mr Obama for a Letter of Marque so he and his militia buddies can fight for freedom against ISIS. (Constitution: Article I, Section 8, Clause 11)

  • Al Dente

    jnorris,

The Paris Declaration of 1856 outlawed privateering, so letters of marque became moot.

I would not want to be alone in a room with this…weird person.

  • dan4

Uh, even ignoring the “nuclear bomb” part of his comment, since when has ISIS spread toward the United States?

  • skinnercitycyclist

I think I read it in Michael Herr’s “Dispatches,” the old “joke” about how to win in Vietnam:

Place all the friendlies in boats, and place them offshore. Then completely nuke the country. Then sink the boats.

Alternatively, we had to destroy the region in order to save it.

  • birgerjohansson

We need a “smart” virus, that will only kill stupid, bigoted people. Like Mr. Rapert.

  • http://motherwell.livejournal.com/ Raging Bee

You think of it as a Republican being incredibly stupid. I think of it as a Republican accidentally admitting his party’s foreign policy has been a total, unmitigated, counterproductive failure.

  • brucegee1962

I also love the message this sends to all the country’s veterans — let’s just take every drop of blood ever shed in Iraq for the past decade, and officially mark it wasted.

Of course, it was wasted anyway, but this would add injury to the insult.

  • colnago80

    Re dan4 @ #17

Give them time. If they aren’t stopped in the Middle East, they could well pose a threat in the Western Hemisphere eventually.

John Pieret: After all, as I understand it, Arkansas’ nuclear arsenal is pretty small.

It is now, after the Damascus incident. But once it housed nine Titan II silos. Those missiles carried some high-yield warheads.
