WND Pretends Right Wing Violence Doesn’t Exist. Again.

The Worldnetdaily is again throwing a fit because the federal government is reporting on the many instances of right wing violence in this country. Ironically, they do so even while linking to an early tantrum they threw in 2009 — after which there have been two dozen instances of such violence.

The Obama administration has named a national security threat it believes is more dangerous than even the Islamic State terrorists beheading, crucifying and burning innocent human beings: Right-wing extremists.

According to CNN, “A new intelligence assessment, circulated by the Department of Homeland Security this month and reviewed by CNN, focuses on the domestic terror threat from right-wing sovereign citizen extremists.”

CNN doesn’t cite specific sources, but it says the new intelligence report references “24 violent sovereign citizen-related attacks across the U.S. since 2010.”

“Some federal and local law enforcement groups view the domestic terror threat from sovereign citizen groups as equal to – and in some cases greater than – the threat from foreign Islamic terror groups, such as ISIS, that garner more public attention.”

CNN reported, “The government says these are extremists who believe that they can ignore laws and that their individual rights are under attack in routine daily instances such as a traffic stop or being required to obey a court order.”

The report cites a 2012 incident in which a father and son reportedly shot and killed two police officers in Louisiana after being pulled over for a traffic violation. The two allegedly belonged to the sovereign citizen movement and claimed police had no authority over them.

The DHS intelligence assessment found, “(Sovereign citizen) violence during 2015 will occur most frequently during routine law enforcement encounters at a suspect’s home, during enforcement stops and at government offices.”

A CNN map shows DHS’ examples of sovereign citizen violence since 2010.

Now that’s some serious spin. No, the government did not say that right wing violence was “more dangerous” than ISIS, they said it would happen more often domestically. That fact is pretty much undeniable. For every instance of Muslim terrorism inside our borders, there are multiple instances of right wing violence, usually Christian right wing violence.

And notice the repeated use of “alleged” and the claim that CNN “didn’t cite specific sources,” as though the claims of right wing violence were not well documented. Hell, WND has reported on many of them, like the murder of two cops in Las Vegas by two anti-government “sovereign citizens” upset about the situation at Bundy Ranch. I’ve written about at least that many in the last few years. But here’s the best part:

WND reported in 2009 when DHS issued a report warning of the possibility of violence by unnamed “right-wing extremists” concerned about illegal immigration, increasing federal power, restrictions on firearms, abortion and the loss of U.S. sovereignty and singles out returning war veterans as particular threats.

Yes, they did, and they threw a fit and lied about it, claiming that the government was trying to slander mainstream conservatives. But since that 2009 report that wingnuts universally condemned as alarmist and false, barely a month has gone by without another instance of some anti-government, “sovereign citizen,” militia type or white supremacist incident of terrorism.

…barely a month has gone by without another instance of some … white supremacist incident of terrorism.

And that’s without counting police violence…

Very recently the focus on islamic terorrism by media has been understandable. The Charlie Hebdo attacks, the beginning of the Boston Bomber trial, what ISIS is doing…all these events, IMO, deserve more coverage than a domestic shooting by sovereign citizen. But looking over the course of the last 5-15 years, it is still hard to understand why right-wing attacks on US citizens get the fairly minimalist coverage they do in the mainstream news. I’m not even talking WND or FOX – CNN, MSNBC, NYT, WashPo – these outlets also tend to treat right-wing shootings as fairly minimal news. Covered today, sure, but not tomorrow.

Hell, WND has reported on many of them, like the murder of two cops in Las Vegas by two anti-government “sovereign citizens” upset about the situation at Bundy Ranch.

The Bundy Ranch is an example of the extent of the problem. The US has chosen in cases like this to not enforce the law so as to prevent violence. We’re using kid gloves on soverign citizens, and the amount of violence we see from them is still what it is. If we treated right-wing whites the way we treat poor inner city suspected dope dealers, the number of violent shootouts would proably be much higher.

    Timothy McVeigh.

The “pro-life” (i.e. coathanger abortion compeller forced birthing and sometimes women killling) murderer of Dr Tiller.

Eric Rudolph the Atlanta Olympic Park bomber.

The Ku Klux Klan and those who murdered to try to stop African-Americans being treated as equal human beings by killing Civil Rights Activists incl. the killer of MLK.

The killers of James Byrd Junior.

    The murderers of Matthew Shepard

Anders Behring Breivik responsible for the massacre in Norway 2011.

The man who shot US senator Gabrielle Giffords in the head and murdered six other humans including Federal District Court Chief Judge John Roll and nine-year-old child Christina-Taylor Green in Tucson 2011 egged on indirectly by the rhetoric of right wing extremists like Sarah Palin putting gun sights on partisan political graphics.

The people already arrested and known to be plotting and advocating the murder of POTUS Barack Obama.

The charmingly person who put the word “Jew” next to climate scientists pictures posetd on a Stormfront website.

Stormfront and other neo-nazi’s still bashing and hating in the name of racist rubbish.

The person who mailed climatologist Dr Michael Mann a packet of white powder – that turned out to cornstartch but shut down his lab for a day or so.

    So many more possible examples.

It would be so nice if the Worldnetdaily was right and these people and so many others weren’t the counter-examples that obviously and clearly prove them wrong. But sadly no.

But those are all just isolated incidences, you know? They totally don’t count, because reasons! The list StevoR just posted has nothing to do with the DHS’s conclusions! They’re all just a bunch of panty-waisted libruls out to smear Real Americans™!

According to the FBI, 2/3’s of all terrorist attacks in the USA were by fundie xians/right wingnuts.

As Ed states, hardly a month goes by without at least one such attack. The last one I remember off hand was someone torching a mosque in Houston a week ago. There have been dozens of fire bombings and other attacks on mosques over the last few years.

The two terrorist attacks near my house were by fundie xians.

When I first read this sentence I read”… Right-wind economics.” Had to go back and reread it , wouldn’t have changed the rest of the post by very much. (/OTT snark)
