Kobach: Obama Could Order End to Prosecution of Black People

Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach, a xenophobic bigot whose ambition is matched only by his dishonesty, agreed with a caller on his radio show that Obama could soon order that no black person can be prosecuted for any crime they commit.

Kobach was discussing the University of Minnesota’s decision to stop including race and other physical descriptions in email alerts of crimes on campus unless they have “sufficient detail that would help identify” a perpetrator, when a listener named Stu called in to share a theory.

“Given the situation in Minnesota, given the recent story that Obama was instructing immigration enforcement to not enforce the immigration laws against illegal aliens, I don’t think it’s too much of a stretch, Kris, to envision an announcement that any black person accused of a crime, charged with a crime, is not going to be prosecuted, regardless of the crime,” he said, adding that “we’ve already seen it from Eric Holder in his failure to prosecute the Black Panthers.”

Holder, Kobach agreed, “basically made it clear….that the civil rights laws were only to protect minority races, and he was not going to be enforcing them to the benefit of white people who were discriminated against on the basis of their race. So, that’s basically what you’ve described.”

“So the word is going to come down that there just won’t be any prosecutions of black criminals,” Stu predicted. “And I can see it happening. I don’t think I’m nuts for envisioning it.”

“Well, it’s already happened more or less in the case of civil rights laws,” Kobach responded. “So I guess it’s not a huge jump, I think it’s unlikely, but you know I’ve learned to say with this president, never say never.”

Hilarious. “Word is going to come down” — as if there were any authority to do that or that “word” would have any effect whatsoever on local police and prosecutors. This is standard right wing fearmongering — take an absolutely ridiculous bit of speculation about an impending Very Bad Thing (illegal aliens voting by the millions, sharia law taking over the country, the UN seizing America’s national parks, etc), provide nothing remotely resembling a plausible path by which it could happen, and then say “Hey, I’m not saying it’s gonna happen, but it’s possible.” And if it’s possible, the wingnuts will consider it inevitable. And when it never actually happens, they’ll just move on to the next idiotic prediction.

This reveals their racism. Actually, civil rights are far more likely to be enforced in ways that favor white people.

Sure, he could issue such a ruling. With the same liklihood, he could also issue a rule that the SoS of Kansas should be taken out back and anally raped with a bat before being shot in the head but all sentient beings know this is pure, unadulterated horseshit. Is there any doubt that these idiots have slipped the bounds of sanity?

If Obama could use his Jedi mind powers to get every local prosecutor to never file charges against black defendants, you’d think he’d have used them on Congress to get them to pass immigration reform.

Kobach’s a hardcore racist asshole. It isn’t widely known, but he was the author of the bill that ultimately became Arizona’s discriminatory ‘papers, please’ law.

“So the word is going to come down that there just won’t be any prosecutions of black criminals,” Stu predicted. “And I can see it happening. I don’t think I’m nuts for envisioning it.”

I strongly disagree with the last part.

With Minority Outreach this bad, they’ve really lost Minnesota’s black vote. Both of them.

    Hilarious.

It would be if it was two random wingnuts babbling on the radio. But one of the wingnuts is the Secretary of State of Kansas who has managed to disenfranchise numerous minority voters in the state. That makes it less than funny.

OTOH having an independent group look at every arrest wouldn’t be a bad idea (if impractical).

I wonder if they’re having a contest: Who can say the most blatantly ridiculous thing and still be believed by the voters?

“Word is coming down?” Who has a problem with anonymous sources? Oh right, these aren’t “anonymous sources” these are “bullshit sources.”

Caller “Stu”: “And I can see it happening. I don’t think I’m nuts for envisioning it.”

I think he’d be well advised to get a second opinion on that.

“Well, it’s already happened more or less in the case of civil rights laws,” Kobach responded.

Yes, “more or less”, with less >> more.

Given the projection we constantly see from rightwingers, this is yet another very scary outline of the kind of world they’d like to create, given enough political power.

Now re-read the caller’s comments — in the voice of Stewie Griffin…

This really could happen. All black people have to do is turn themselves into banks.

    Or white policemen. :(
