WND: Solar Eclipse a Message From God

The Worldnetdaily is nothing if not really good at writing articles that promote the books and videos they’re selling, even if (maybe especially if) they have to invent total bullshit to do so. Like the solar eclipse happening on March 20 is evidence of God’s judgment for…well, something. Naturally, they interview the authors of books they’ve been selling.

Root Source Ltd., which provides Christians access to Jewish teachings online, reports the eclipse will darken the sun just in time for the sunrise at the North Pole, where it will be visible for two minutes.

It will happen both on the first day of spring and on the first day of the Jewish religious calendar, the beginning of the month of Nisan.

Such an astronomical event only takes place once every 100,000 years, experts said.

In an exclusive interview with WND, Root Source co-founder Bob O’Dell pointed to the significance of an eclipse visible from the North Pole at this particular time.

“The North Pole can’t really be called the territory of any particular nation or people,” O’Dell said. “This is likely a message from God to the entire world.”

Uh, yeah. Actually, it was inevitably going to happen once the solar system stabilized and orbits became fixed. We’ve known it was going to happen at that exact date and time for centuries. It’s not like it happened out of the blue as a result of God’s anger about something.

He also believes the path of the eclipse is significant.

“The total solar eclipse continuously hovers over water and ice. I’m reminded of Isaiah 11:9 – which tells us that ‘None will harm or destroy another on My entire holy mountain, for the land will be as full of the knowledge of the LORD as the sea is filled with water.’”

Now that is some Grade A religio-babble right there. What the fuck could that possibly mean?

Pastor Mark Biltz, author of “Blood Moons: Decoding the Imminent Heavenly Signs,” sees a heavenly warning in the consequences of the eclipse, especially for the northern Europeans, who will be most affected.

In an exclusive interview with WND, Biltz explained, “In Jewish tradition, a total solar eclipse is a warning to the Gentiles and a sign of judgment on the nations. When we look at where the darkness will be, it will be in northern European countries like England and Sweden where we see the rise of Islam and anti-Israel sentiment. Europeans especially should take heed.”

Biltz also sees significance in the timing of the solar eclipse.

“An event of this magnitude at the very beginning of the religious new year demands attention. As the Bible tells us, there will be signs in the heavens on the feast days, and this is a very significant sign on a critical day.

“It’s the same day that there was the grand-opening ceremony of the tabernacle of Moses, with fire from heaven lighting the altar. Historically, this is a day of judgment.”

Again, if this happened totally out of the blue and was unexpected, perhaps one could make this argument that it’s a sign from God. But the occurrence of the eclipse at this exact date and time was set in stone literally billions of years ago.

And here I thought Joe Pornmustache and the boys at WingNutDaily were all young-Earth creationists. Once in 100,000 years when there has only been 6,000 years?

The North Pole? That’s where Santa lives. Is God declaring war on Christmas?

Constantly hover over water – particularly the watery Faroe Islands and really quite liquid Svarlbard…

Geography really isn’t an American strong-point, is it?

The Jewish Calendar is a lunar Calendar. Every month starts on a New Moon. Solar Eclipses can only happen during New Moons. Solar Eclipse ALWAYS happen at the start of a Jewish month.

… the eclipse will darken the sun just in time for the sunrise at the North Pole, where it will be visible for two minutes.

Don’t scoff – the polar icecaps need all the protection against melting they can get!

… the occurrence of the eclipse at this exact date and time was set in stone literally billions of years ago.

Who’s to say that Gawd Almahty didn’t know, as he assembled our primordial cloud of cosmic dust five gigayears ago, that Sweden and the UK would need a gentle reminder to grovel at Netanyahu’s wingtips on 1 Nisan 5776?

the occurrence of the eclipse at this exact date and time

Well, it’s fortunate that Pope Gregory, back in the 1582, had 10 days removed from the calendar in order to coordinate the date with vernal equinox. If not, this eclipse would have occurred 10 days earlier, totally fucking up that set in stone thing.

An event of this magnitude at the very beginning of the religious new year demands attention

March 20 == the very beginning of the year. Who’d a guessed?

  • dingojack

Oh BTW — 20th of March, 1662 & 20th of March 1681 are 100,000 (WND) years ago. Who knew?

Wouldn’t it be more significant if it happened on the first day of the month of Toyota?

Ignores the “northern” European countries of The Netherlands and France, where Islamists are also becoming more prominent. Also, these messages are contradictory: “It applies to the whole world.” — “It applies to specific nations.” | “It’s a warning.” — “It’s a renewal of God’s promise.”

Same as it ever was: nonsense.

When we look at where the darkness will be, it will be in northern European countries like England and Sweden…

The most eclipse that either England or Sweden will see is about 90% of the sun obscured, which is the equivalent of a cloudy day. (Note that he said England, not UK. It will get a bit darker than that in Scotland and Northern Ireland.)

Yay! This must mean there will be a new Democrat in the White House in 2017. After all, what other “America is doomed” event will the August 21st 2017 eclipse signify to conservative wingnuts? Totality crosses the entire continental USA from Oregon to South Carolina. Almost as though God is slicing the whole American nation in two…

  • http://mostlyrational.net tacitus

My niece is in the Faroe Islands for the eclipse. Unfortunately the forecast isn’t great for tomorrow — mostly cloud with a chance of rain.

I live in Texas. I suspect when the 2017 eclipse comes around, I’ll be glued to the forecast ready to head for the nearest place along the route of totality with guaranteed clear skies.

The commenters on WND are working really hard to synchronize the purely human calendar with celestial events determined by the laws of physics. Ignorance on parade. And these people vote fer chrissake.

No, no — you’ve got it backwards! If the eclipse happened unexpectedly then that would mean it was random. Instead, it happened because it HAD to happen. This speaks of an invariant God and His inviolable will. He has given us enough information to decode its meaning.

Seriously, I can’t believe people are still running around screaming when eclipses happen. It’s so medieval of them.

But the occurrence of the eclipse at this exact date and time was set in stone literally billions of years ago.

Actually, that’s not entirely true. It’s an interesting fact that Solar System is considered to be a chaotic system. The way in which planets (and the Sun) interact with each other gravitationally cannot be calculated precisely, which means that the orbits of the planets cannot be accurately predicted over periods longer than around a hundred million years.

In extreme cases, it’s possible that one day, several hundred million years from now, one of the planets will fall into the Sun, or be sent spinning out of the Solar System altogether (most likely Mercury).

As far as I can gather, it also means that it is impossible to predict where and when solar eclipses will happen with any degree of accuracy for more than a million years into the future (i.e. much less than a billion years), and even within the next 10,000 years, eclipse predictions could by out by as much as a day either way.

    Re tacitus @ #19

It is my understanding that the reason that planetary orbits cannot be calculated exactly is because many body problems can’t be solved in closed form. However, perturbation theory can be used to segregate the problem into a series of 2 body problems, each of which can be solved exactly (there’s a presentation on Youtube by Neil Tyson explaining this). However, this is an approximation that will eventually break down over long periods of time. This is usually done to lowest order in perturbation theory so that, in principal higher orders could be added. However, the entire perturbation series is probably an asymptotic series that eventually will diverge as the number of terms goes to infinity.

In fact, this calculation was first done by Laplace near the end of the 18th Century when he showed that the Solar System was stable for long periods of time, long being thousands of years. He was actually able to refute Newton who had opined that the intervention of god might be necessary to maintain the stability. When asked by Napoleon what part god might play in the motions of the heavens, he replied, “I had no need of that hypothesis”.

    Eclipse is done…aaaand?

    Got anything else?

Like what is actually supposed to happen now the eclipse is over…nothing happened during, a bunch of schoolkids on a trip up to the Faroe Islands had a great time, the TV cameras provided hours of entertainment for the locals pulling faces in the background and the crews spent dosh in the pub and the shops…went dark got bright again …next?

What is supposed to happen? …Or is nothing happening the significant event?
