Scarborough: Gay Marriage Will Make Christianity Illegal

Here’s a panel of mindnumbing stupidity for a radio show: Rick Scarborough, Matt Barber and Tim Wildmon, hosted by James Dobson. That’s going to be a whirlwind of bizarre arguments and Scarborough seems to have led the way with the old “they’re gonna make Christianity illegal” bit. But first there’s this:

Scarborough said that if the Supreme Court strikes down gay marriage bans, then “our nation is now sanctioning a lifestyle that God forbids.”

Right. Just like allowing people to worship other gods is “sanctioning a lifestyle that God forbids.” And just like not outlawing women not being virgins on their wedding day is “sanctioning a lifestyle that God forbids.” And just like allowing people to be gay at all, never mind get married, is “sanctioning a lifestyle that God forbids.”

He warned that such a ruling will endanger children by telling them that such relationships are okay while making it “illegal for me to share the Gospel with a child.”

“That child grows up in his life never knowing right from wrong from a biblical perspective and they die and crash into Hell,” Scarborough said. “So what we’re discussing has eternal consequences.”

Again, I say put a date on this and put your safety where your mouth is. If Christianity is not outlawed within 5 years, you get stoned to death. Or as an alternative, you shut the fuck up. Forever.

So, to be clear, you admit that your god tortures people eternally for acts that they did not know were against his will.

Don’t they just love them some victimhood, imaginary martyrdom & special pleading. Along with showing the logical powers of a doorstop.

It’s been all downhill ever since the godless Big Government bastards outlawed slavery, and now look where we are!

  • dingojack

Shrimp cocktails are illegal in America? Who knew?

Oh tell me that God still allows the sale of bacon in the US!

I’ve got some bad news for you Rick… Christianity has been illegal since Loving v Virginia. Please stay where you are, and wait for the authorities to arrive.

  • D. C. Sessions

Christianity has been illegal since Loving v Virginia.

And here I thought it’s been outlawed for 150 years.

Scarborough and Dobson went off on a tangent, attacking President Obama for voicing his support for bans on “ex-gay” conversion therapy for minors, with Scarborough fuming that such bans will outlaw the teaching of the Gospel

Wait a minute, is “ex-gay” conversion therapy a therapy or is it a religious ceremony? If the latter, you can preach at kids all you want (as long as it doesn’t involve false imprisonment or physical violence). But if it supposed to be the former, a medical procedure, we can regulate it just as we have the power to do with all medical procedures.

John Pieret, #8: But if it supposed to be the former, a medical procedure, we can regulate it just as we have the power to do with all medical procedures.

Regulate medical procedures? Well, that’s just crazy talk. Unless we’re talking about women’s health care. But aside from that, that’s just crazy talk.

Yeah, the irony is the bans on “reparative therapy” only apply to those licensed by the state as counselors, psychologists, etc. Religious leaders will continue to be able to shame LGBT kids into suicide by telling them how horrible, evil and sinful they are.

Dingo @ #4 & 5: if you go to the right places–yes, places plural–you can even get bacon-wrapped shrimp. It makes a fine appetizer for that big slab of pork ribs that comes after.

I’ve never understood the conservative xians’ obsession with teh ghey, but out of at least 76 prohibitions listed in Leviticus, that’s the only one they seem to care about. You never, ever see a xian out picketing a Red Lobster, for example. The fundies sure do seem like they’re trying to make all us normal people think they’re really just a bunch of perverts, don’t they?

“Religious leaders will continue to be able to shame LGBT kids into suicide by telling them how horrible, evil and sinful they are.”

And they will continue to get criticized persecuted for doing so.

‘He warned that such a ruling will endanger children by telling them that such relationships are okay while making it “illegal for me to share the Gospel with a child.”’

I think the real problem here is not that he’s saying he can’t tell a Christian child that god says this is wrong. He’s really complaining that he can’t stand in a school assembly and preach to non-Christian kids that gays are evil.

  • D. C. Sessions

Have y’all considered that what he means by “sharing the Gospel with a child” may mean what even those of us besides Michael Heath would call “child abuse?”

  • raven

are okay while making it “illegal for me to share the Gospel with a child.”’

Tony Perkins better stay the hell away from my kids!!!

He has no legal, moral, or ethical right to tell anyone else’s kids anything. Much less his wacko perversion of xianity.

I’ll even make a deal with him. Stay away from my kids and I’ll stay away from your kids!!!

PS Parents, watch out. The fundies really are after your kids. They say so often.

Child Evangelical Fellowship is widespread. They target elementary school kids. And are in 4,000 US schools right now, including in my area.

Without Eternal Vigilance, it can happen to you and yours. A mind is an terrible thing to waste.

    Rick Scarborough writes:

“That child grows up in his life never knowing right from wrong from a biblical perspective and they die and crash into Hell,” . . .

I say we track this evil god(s) down and kill it/them. That’ll guarantee no one is destined for an eternity of suffering. Who’s in? Rick what about you? Or don’t you really give a flying fuck about other humans?

  • theguy

““illegal for me to share the Gospel with a child.”

Like how the fundies want to make it illegal to tell a gay teenager it gets better? Like your bullshit fundie laws in Russia and Uganda?

“That child grows up in his life never knowing right from wrong from a biblical perspective”

The “biblical perspective” on morality is wrong in many ways.

“and they die and crash into Hell”

That wouldn’t be our fault, it would be the fault of your evil, demonic “god” who gets off on torture and suffering.

Christianity made Gay Marriage illegal. It only makes sense that Gay Marriage should return the favor.
