FRC: Pray for Jewish Justices to Remember God Wants Gays Killed

The Family Research Council is continuing to offer model prayers for their followers to recite to beg God to change the minds of the Supreme Court justices so they uphold states laws banning same-sex marriage. And now they’re on to the Jewish justices. You’re gonna love this.

Pray that Justice Alito will hold fast to his integrity on the matter of marriage. Pray that he will be even stronger than in the past, and that he will be a powerful influence on his colleagues. May each of these Justices be reminded of the truths of their own faith tradition and teaching. For those of Jewish faith, may they consider the clear teaching of Genesis on marriage (1:26-28; 2:18-25) and of Leviticus on homosexual behavior (18:22; 20:13). For those of Catholic faith, may they consider the words of the Lord Jesus, who quoted Genesis on marriage between one man and one woman and concluded: “What God, therefore, hath joined together, let not man put asunder” (Mt 19:6) and the words of Saint Paul on homosexual behavior, which is a sin people can repent of and be delivered from by the grace of God (Rom 1:26-27, 1 Cor 6:9-10; 1 Tim 1:8-10). May each consider that the Founders, who firmly opposed homosexual behavior, would never have imagined that the founding documents even suggested any right to same-sex “marriage,” and therefore no legitimate interpretation of the Constitution should confer special status to those who engage in it. May the Holy Spirit awaken a fear of God in each of the Justices, reminding them of the truths of Scripture. May their consciences be stirred and may their ruling serve to re-awaken the consciences of all Americans that we should view marriage between one man and one woman as a sacred union that should be protected and encouraged by government.

For the record, here’s that second verse they cite:

If a man has sexual relations with a man as one does with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They are to be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads.

So they’re praying for the Jewish justices to remember that Leviticus commands them to stone gay people to death. Because that’s not too fucked up or anything.

Cute that they include the text about divorce being against their religion. Let’s see them start pushing anti-divorce laws.

I’m sure that will be very persuasive to the Court’s Jews.

and therefore no legitimate interpretation of the Constitution should confer special status to those who engage in it.

There’s that phrase “special status” again. It shows they still don’t understand what this is about.

There are few rhetorical devices that annoy me more that telling people who belong to a different religion or accept a different political framework what they are supposed to believe.

  • Chiroptera

Oh, and the justices are supposed to decide legal questions, not inject their religious beliefs into the law.

  • busterggi

Perhaps they should also remember that their religion teaches that the Jews only continue to exist so that Jesus can slaughter them all & wade in their blood when he returns. Because Christians & Jews have such a wonderful history of loving one another.

For more fun, the FRC could remind them that xians have been persecuting and occasionally massacring the Jews for 2,000 years using the New Testament anti-semitism of Matthew and John as guides.

It is after all in the bible that the Jews are the children of satan, jesus said so himself.

And while they are not so subtly threatening the Jewish members of the Supreme court, they could remind the 6 Catholics that not too long ago the Protestants fought a bloody war of liberation against them. And won.

Oh, and the justices are supposed to decide legal questions, not inject their religious beliefs into the law.

Thomas, Alito, and Scalia will no doubt thank you for that insight.

Not to mention the divorced Justice Sotomayor.

“we should view marriage between one man and one woman as a sacred union that should be protected and encouraged by government.”

They want the government to recognize their religious views (and only theirs), cite a verse commanding the murder of gay people, and they lecture about conscience?

  • moarscienceplz

Oh no, religious people! PLEASE don’t go sit in your houses and pray for hours! We have no defenses against religious people staying home and doing nothing except praying! Don’t do it, I beg you!

  • RickR

we should view marriage between one man and one woman as a sacred union that should be protected and encouraged by government.

Again, still not an argument against gay marriage.

  • U Frood

You’re opposing same sex marriage because you believe God opposes it.

If God opposes it, wouldn’t he influence the judges himself. Why do you need to pary? Does he need human permission to do what he wants to do?

the Founders, who firmly opposed homosexual behavior

Am I wrong in assuming they pulled this facty factoid out of their butts? Is there any record of any of the Founders addressing the subject of “homosexual behavior”?

  • Lady Mondegreen

(Not that it would be relevant if they had, but I doubt those men, some of whom were wordly and sophisticated people, really gave a rat’s patoot who did what in bed.)

    #14:

Yes, I’ve never understood this. God is omnipotent and omniscient but won’t do what he himself wants to do until a certain number of people (determined by him) pray in exactly the right way (determined by him).

Where I park at work there’s a car with a bumper sticker that says “Pray to end abortion.” It’s the same sort of deal. According to certain people, God really, really hates abortion (despite setting up the human reproductive system so that most fertilized eggs don’t come to term anyway, even without human intervention), and could put an end to it with less effort than you or I expend blinking, but refuses to do so until he enough people beg him.

Where in the U S Constitution does one find references to “out of whole cloth”?

  • Francisco Bacopa

Yeah, the founders really opposed homosexuality when they brought in Von Steuben as a trainer for the Continental Army. Yep, a big old homo taught the regulars to shave a couple of seconds off reloading a musket. He fit right in with a French general in his twenties and a couple of Polish freethinkers. They all have statues right across from the White House.
