Perkins Cranks Up the Fear Mongering to Raise Money

Tony Perkins of the Family Research Council is getting desperate. He sent out a fundraising letter begging for money because, he says, gay rights and Obama are to blame for ISIS because they “closely watch America’s domestic affairs” and if we don’t protect religious freedom, they are inspired to kill more Christians.

I’m emailing you with the month more than half gone, and the struggle for the freedom to believe—the God-given freedom to live your faith without punishment—under growing attack.

That’s why it’s urgent that FRC receive enough funds from friends like you to TRIPLE our $50,000 “Free to Believe” Challenge Grant. Response from friends has been so strong that we have set a goal to triple the challenge.

This grant will help achieve our new goal of receiving $150,000 by April 31.

Why is this so urgent?

Ask Christian wives, mothers and daughters overseas. Their husbands, sons and fathers are being beheaded or shot by radical Islamic jihadists like ISIS. They are being driven from their homes. Children are being martyred. And our administration has done little to help, and for months resisted calling this massacre of Christians by Islamic jihadists what it is.

As General Boykin and I testified before the United Nations on Friday April 17, our administration’s persecution of Christians within our borders is emboldening the attack on Christians worldwide.

Why would Islamist butchers fear our government, or believe the United States would defend Christians elsewhere when they do nothing to help Christians under attack for their faith right here in America?

Ask Kelvin Cochran—a veteran fire chief with a stellar record—who was fired by the City of Atlanta . . . for writing a book that expressed the biblical view of morality. Yes, fired. If Kelvin Cochran can be fired, any Christian is at risk.

If our government won’t call religious genocide overseas what it is, any Christian, any place, is at risk.

The same rampage of “political correctness” that attacked Kelvin Cochran’s freedom to believe is coming to your state, your town, your church. Christians you know are targets . . . maybe Christians in your own home.

The same rampage of hate that destroyed the career of Kelvin Cochran tells the killers in ISIS, who closely watch America’s domestic affairs, that our government doesn’t value freedom of belief.

No Christian is safe.

Nazis! Concentration camps! Martyrdom! Send us money, we’ll protect you from this non-existent threat!

Time for the blog’s resident physics professor and former math department chairman to bring forth his no true Scotsman shtick.

He’s going to have to get the calendar changed in order to have any hope of meeting the goal by April 31.

  • John Pieret

General Boykin and I testified before the United Nations on Friday April 17 … emboldening the attack on Christians worldwide.

Really, if just finding about the SSM controversy in the US is “emboldening” ISIS (who have already done what you’d like to do, kill gays), then why do you go around, especially to the U.N., talking it up?

Not to mention that the supposed “persecution” of American Christians is bullhockey of the first order …

  • jimmiraybob

If left completely unrestrained, how long would it take for Perkins’ view (and his follower’s) to evolve to one of physically sacrificing the gays* to appease ISIS? And, I suppose, to make his Lord happy too?

This heathen restraint thing** must frustrate the bejesus out of those that want to rebuild America along the lines of the Medieval European model that their Christian ancestors previously fashioned, after acquiring and rebuilding the former western Roman Empire, into a magical land of wondrous enchantment and brotherly/sisterly love, peace and harmony…..based entirely on the words of their leader*** the Jesus…..the Christ.

*and, of course, the rest of the hit list (women, pointy headed liberals, RINOs, modernity, intellectuals, education, ObamaSatan, ClintonSatan, etc.).

**Why, oh why, can’t they just be free to exercise their religious freedom? (see hit list.)

I bet he’ll get the $150,000 quite easily. What Christian could resist handing over a few bucks for a chance to play the part of brave little soldier in the army of the Lord?

“Ask Christian wives, mothers and daughters overseas. Their husbands, sons and fathers are being beheaded or shot by radical Islamic jihadists like ISIS.”

Hmmm … strange how those Christian wives, mothers and daughters (you missed out apple pie there Tony) ‘overseas’ in places such as Australia, England, Russia and etc. don’t seem to notice their menfolk (just to keep it relatively short) being beheaded by ISIL or groups like ISIL — how can this be Tony?

Perkins: The same rampage of hate that destroyed the career of Kelvin Cochran tells the killers in ISIS, who closely watch America’s domestic affairs, that our government doesn’t value freedom of belief.

So he thinks ISIS, which is conducting its own “rampage of hate” and absolutely despises “freedom of belief”, will be discouraged if the United States behaves in a similar way? That is exactly what Perkins and Boykin are demanding, for the takeaway from the Kevin Cochran debacle is that Christians — and only Christians — should be allowed to tell the rest of the nation what to believe.

    ISIS would exult.

  • caseloweraz

I should have written “their takeaway.”

Ask Kelvin Cochran—a veteran fire chief with a stellar record—who was fired by the City of Atlanta . . . for writing a book that expressed the biblical view of morality.

This just shows what we already know.

Biblical Morality and Biblical Law are pure evil!!!

IIRC, Kelvin Cochran wanted to stone all they gays to death or some such, as it says in the bible.

So what? The bible also says you can sell your kids as sex slaves if you need a few bucks. Slavery is legal. Gays are right up there with Sabbath breakers, nonvirgin brides, adulterers, disobedient children, and False Prophets as death penalty offenses.

Tony Perkins would have long ago been stoned to death as a false prophet under biblical law. I’m sure it would have been the most popular stoning murder of the year.

The bible is not a source of morality as we know it today. It isn’t even a record of a barbaric age. It’s just the mass murder fantasies of ancient equivalents of Tony Perkins and Jerry Falwell.

Fanatical Muslims leave their countries of origin to fight in the Middle East.

Fanatical Christians stay at home and beg for money because actually fighting is not profitable.

Somehow there is an inconsistancy in their fanaticism.

  • Chiroptera

Why would Islamist butchers fear our government, or believe the United States would defend Christians elsewhere when they do nothing to help Christians under attack for their faith right here in America?

Well, to be perfectly honest, requiring bakers to bake cakes for fair compensation, which they are already doing as part of their everyday jobs, for gay people really isn’t much an “attack.”

  • raven

Even by Tony Perkin’s standards, this is a mess of lies and gibberish.

    1. But it is true that xians are being persecuted and killed in the middle east by fanatical Moslem terrorists.

    2. Much of this can be blamed on George Bush, Dick Cheney, and the GOP though.

    3. In Iraq, the home of the oldest xian communities, half of all xians are dead or migrated. This all happened during and after the Iraqi War disaster of Bush as collateral damage.

  • raven

Oddly enough, what Perkins and the rest of the fundie clown car never mention. Most of their (imaginary) persecutors are…other xians!!!

Obama and 92% of the US congress are xians. It’s the same down to the state, city, and village level. An open atheist or pagan has no chance of being elected to dog catcher much less anything else.

“with the month more than half gone”

Shitkin’s already missed 24 opportunities to lie this month, really gotta make this one a doozy!

“and the struggle for the freedom to believe—the God-given freedom to live your faith without punishment”

Unless you’re a Muslim, gay, or a nonbeliever, then FRC tells you to go to hell – literally.

“They are being driven from their homes. Children are being martyred. And our administration has done little to help”

Except for the thousands of air strikes and drone strikes, dipshit.

“for months resisted calling this massacre of Christians by Islamic jihadists what it is”

You mean Obama refused to blame all Muslims worldwide and demand their expulsion from the US?

“As General fired-ass Boykin and I testified before the United Nations on Friday April 17, our administration’s persecution of Christians within our borders”

Oh no! Christians can’t discriminate anymore (except the churches, which still can).

“Why would Islamist butchers fear our government”

    Drone strikes!

“Ask Kelvin Cochran… who was fired by the City of Atlanta . . . for writing a book that expressed the biblical view of morality”

IIRC, he was fired for proselytizing to his subordinates and for trying to force his book on them. Workplace harassment, yanno. But I guess Shitkins is fine with workplace proselytizing, as long as it’s Christians. If it was Muslims, he’d start lying about them; he’d probably fear monger about ISIS recruitment.

“The same rampage of “political correctness” that attacked Kelvin Cochran’s freedom to believe ”

There was no rampage, and the moron did not lose his freedom to hate or to lie. Workplace harassment and proselytizing gets in the way of doing the damn job.

“The same rampage of hate that destroyed the career of Kelvin Cochran took away his ability to force his beliefs on his subordinates”

The real “rampage of hate” comes from the FRC, which goes into other countries and demands homophobic laws, then washes their hands of the inevitable violence.

“tells the killers in ISIS… that our government doesn’t value freedom of belief.”

Of course, if Shitkin’s Islamist counterparts knew how to use Google, they would more likely see these traits in the FRC.

I doubt Shitkin’s really has any problem with ISIS. If they were Christians, and white supremacists, he’d pay them a shitload of money for their campaign mailing list. Oh, wait, he did pay a white supremacist a shitload of money for his campaign mailing list.

Also, I’m having a harder and harder time when I read these things distinguishing ISIS from the christian god.

@ ^ sigurd jorsalfar : Really? Crazy and nasty as they are, the Christian fundamentalists in the USA don’t literally chop heads off and (almost always?) officially oppose slavery. Also they don’t destroy the physical historic of their and past civilisations and don’t kill and they haven’t officially declared their own theocratic state at least not yet. Also slightly different language (Arabic vs English) and accents and a few other things.

Although both groups do share similarities in extreme bigotry, nastiness and both are horrible people who give their religions a bad name.
