Poor Glenn Beck is All Gloomy Again

I’ve noted many times how Glenn Beck careens between declaring that he’s going to change the world because he’s on a mission from God to lamenting the fact that his paranoid delusions are inevitable and he is powerless to stop them. He went on the latter rant on Friday, saying it’s all a conspiracy and the government is going to kill him in his sleep:

“We’re being set up, guys. We are absolutely being set up,” Beck said. “And I don’t know — this is what I pray every night: ‘I don’t know how to do this, Lord. I don’t know what you want. I don’t know — I don’t know what you want.’ I can’t wake up anyone. Oh, if I had the voice of an angel. I can’t wake anybody else up. They’ve smeared me. I’ve helped them smear me. I don’t have any credibility. Nobody is listening. I can tell you what’s coming. I’ve told you every step of the way. I know what’s coming next.”…

“This is the biggest show ever,” he warned. “That’s all that’s happening right now. This is a show. We’re watching a script and a play play out in front of us. None of this stuff is real. Those riots in Baltimore. That wasn’t real … At some point, there will be a straw that breaks the camel’s back, and it will set the whole country on fire. And what happens? We will cry out for police help. The police will be overwhelmed. The DOJ will say, ‘We’re going to take over policing, we’ll coordinate it from here.’ And you’re done. It’s lights out, republic.”

“That’s what’s coming,” Beck said. “That’s what’s coming.”…

“If you look back at history, what happens to people who have voices and can cobble together people and be a leader?” he asked. “If you go back to what happened with the Armenian genocide, what is the first thing the Turks did? What is the first thing the Nazis did? You have a Night of Long Knives. The Armenian genocide. Any of the Armenians that could lead, any mayor, any writer, any person that was a hero in war, in one day, in each city, they would kill about 1,000 people. They’d just slaughter them. And they were all the leaders of the community. Anyone that people would rally around and follow. They were killed, day one. They just disappear, or they’re killed.”

“There are 10 million people that listen to this show. They cannot kill 10 million people in one night. You were born for a reason, and you’re listening to this show for a reason,” Beck stated. “Prepare for a time when voices like mine or others are no longer heard and yours is the only voice.”

Remember a few months ago when he said that he’d been cured of a mysterious illness that had made him sound like a crazy person for the last few years? I see no evidence that such an illness actually existed (nor do doctors, who said he was full of shit), but if it does it’s quite obvious the cure didn’t take.

OK Glen I’ll just stop you there.

    You said:

“If you look back at history, what happens to people who have voices and can cobble together people and be a leader?” he asked. “If you go back to what happened with the Armenian genocide, what is the first thing the Turks did? And they were all the leaders of the community. Anyone that people would rally around and follow. They were killed, day one. They just disappear, or they’re killed.”

What happens to people who have a voice and can be a leader? What like Adolf Hitler, you mean? Well Glen — they become leaders, and sometimes that’s a good thing, sometimes not.

Uh Glen, the Armenians were killed in 1915 – by Ottomans – the Turks overthrew the Ottomans in 1918. Details, particularly historic details, are important, especially when accusing people of genocide.

Operation Hummingbird a.k.a ‘The Night of the Long Knives’ was an internal purge within the Nazi Party. It’s unlikely you’d want to associate yourself with Eric Rohm’s SA, but even if you did – they’re not leaders of the community, they were muscle designed to create the conditions for dictatorship – more leaders against the community.

That guff about the Armenian Genocide, Glen — look up the basic facts before you speak, you’re just showing what a moron you are. With this new-fangled Internet you can find lots of information about the genocide, and it’s on-going aftermath.

Huh. So Glenn, you’re saying that if we see government forces systematically targeting a specific group for regular murder and incarceration, we should do everything in our power to protect them, the way the German people failed to protect the Jews?

Wow. First reasonable thing you’ve said, ever. So you’ll be joining the protests in Baltimore or Ferguson, then, we can assume?

And they were all the leaders of the community. Anyone that people would rally around and follow. They were killed, day one. They just disappear, or they’re killed.”

Aren’t these the same folk who used to complain about Obama’s background as a grassroots community organizer? I guess if you can’t beat’em, steal from’em.

Those riots in Baltimore. That wasn’t real

As someone who has friends in Baltimore: F. U.

“Prepare for a time when voices like mine or others are no longer heard and yours is the only voice.”

How can you prepare, I hear you ask? Well, just buy all the things advertised in the upcoming break….

“I’ve helped them smear me. I don’t have any credibility. Nobody is listening. ”

And some people say Beck is always wrong.

I wonder if anyone has done a systematic study of how often these “I may be hounded out/America is doomed/it’ll all be over soon” prophecies occur on Friday, thus decreasing the likelihood anyone will call his prognostications into question the next week? Is there a cyclical pattern to his feigned insanity, or is there a genuine randomness to his ups-and-downs, indicating proper medication might be in order?

  • raven

Beck stated. “Prepare for a time when voices like mine or others are no longer heard and yours is the only voice.”

Beck has been saying stuff like this for 5 or 10 years. He’s made dozens of similar prophecies.

    They’ve all been wrong.

Who in Cthulhu’s name listens to Glenn Beck anyway? He does have a track record and it is publicly available. It’s zero correct calls.

  • grumpyoldfart

He did it for a bet.

[Cost me a bloody fortune. I didn’t think he’d do it.]

  • sugarfrosted

First they came for the paranoid conspiracy theorists, but actually they didn’t, as it was all in their head.

    #1, Dingo,

Go git ’em, Dingo! Bite him in the butt!

I know he’ll never see your comment, but we see it.

    Way to go, dog!

  • felidae

Maybe Glenn should copy Scrooge McDuck who used to go out to his Money Bin and roll around in his money when he had a sad–wait a minute….prophecies of doom are how he generates his cash flow–never mind!, its all part of the act

  • carpenterman

I can’t figure out if Glenn Beck is a completely cynical money-grubbing liar, the most shameless showman since P.T.Barnum, or genuinely mentally ill. Or maybe a combo platter of all three.

Am I the only one who is praying to Zeus/Odin/Amon Ra (or pick your favorite deity) that before Jon Stewart does his final Daily Show that he brings back the fake Glenn Beck one last time????

Beck said he “can’t wake anybody else up”. Does that make him the pot or the black kettle??? I’m so confused

“There are 10 million people that listen to this show. They cannot kill 10 million people in one night.

Sadly, they (whoever they are) actually could they they wanted to. Nuclear bombs dropped on major cities would easily take out that plus more in a few seconds to hours. if the Cold War had turned seriously hot and The Bombs had fallen, it would’ve been over, horribly quickly and with a death toll in hundreds of millions or billions.

Of course, this will almost certainly (99.99999999%) NOT now happen. But it theoretically could.

    @4. busterggi :

“I’ve helped them smear me. I don’t have any credibility. Nobody is listening. ”

And some people say Beck is always wrong.

Well two out of three ain’t bad! Beck has smeared himself, he does lack all credibility but rergettably, he does have a pretty big audience or so I gather. Why he does, is a very good question, the answer to which eludes me but still.

@5. Jared James : I’d love to see the results of a study on that and also a comprehension and memory test done on a sample of Beck viewers. Do they actually remember all the things he’s said and how often Glenn Beck been totally wrong and said much the same things and again been wrong. and again .. It really would make for an interesting psychological paper or two woudn’t it?

& # 8. sugarfrosted : “First they came for the paranoid conspiracy theorists, but actually they didn’t, as it was all in their head.”

    Wins this thread!

    .

They aren’t real strong on the details… they remember that Beck keeps predicting doom, and the world keeps changing under their feet in unpredictable ways, so they feel the same impending doom that he keeps going on about. Don’t sweat the small stuff; follow your heart, not your head; feel the force, Luke; etc. If you don’t tolerate change well; and if you have a lifetime of conditioning that dissuades you from looking at details, double-checking the claims of moral authorities, and considering consequences, then you are under serious stress right now.

    .

Me, I think that anti-reality loons like this are going to help bring about the end of civilization, but these folks seem more stressed out by gay marriage rights. [shrug} To each his own, I guess.
