Monckton: Obama is ‘Of the Devil’

“Lord” Christopher Monckton, a man who wouldn’t recognize the truth if it crawled up his pantleg, perched on his ass and yodeled Rocky Top, has decided that President Obama and the “hard left” are “of the devil.” Yes, he seriously makes that claim.

The devil, in the traditional theology of the Christian Church, is a fallen angel: the very personification and embodiment of evil. Perhaps the most frequent of the many descriptions of the devil is that he is the father of lies.

Most references to the devil in the Bible mention deceit as his hallmark. John 8:44, for instance, describes the devil thus: “He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own, for he is a liar, and the father of it.”

One who is “of the devil,” therefore, is one who is by nature and habit deceitful, because there is no truth in him.

Now, it has become apparent that the global totalitarian hard left, led by Mr. Obama, no longer make any pretense of speaking the truth about any of its favorite political topics.

Two of these topics are currently in the news: so-called “gay” so-called “marriage,” for which the once-Christian people of Ireland have recently and shamefully voted, and so-called “catastrophic” so-called “manmade” so-called “global” so-called “warming,” about which Mr. Obama last week preached a whining, heavily touted and in every material respect deceitful commencement sermon to Coast Guard cadets.

Even the names of these two topics are lies. There is nothing in the least bit merry about homosexuality, and marriage is by definition the union of a man and a woman, not of two of one or two of the other.

He actually made that argument. In public. With a straight face. In a rational society, that would result in people pointing and laughing at him everywhere he went for the rest of his life. We do not, sadly, live in such a society.

    Ed writes:

In a rational society, that would result in people pointing and laughing at [Chris Monckton] everywhere he went for the rest of his life. We do not, sadly, live in such a society.

In a rational and moral society we also wouldn’t make fun of Mr. Monckton’s appearance.

  • John Pieret

    The so-called “Lord” so-called “Christopher” so-called “Monckton,” a so-called “human” so-called “being” with a so-called “mind” is, in fact, a so-called “moron.”

  • colnago80

I’m sure that Egnorance will weigh in here in defense of his hero, Viscount Monckton.

…the global totalitarian hard left, led by Mr. Obama..

As a spokesmodel for the Global Totalitarian Hard Left, I can assure you that Obama doesn’t lead us.

    …so-called “gay” so-called “marriage,”…

    Hey! He’s stealing my shtick!

Michael Heath “In a rational and moral society we also wouldn’t make fun of Mr. Monckton’s appearance.”

Who made fun of that googly-eyed, inbred muppet’s appearance? Let me at ’em!

  • Johnny Vector

Aw, give the guy a break. He’s just tired of Modusoperandi winning every thread. He hoped by copying Modus’ style he might win just once.

Sadly, he forgot to include the part where he has a cure for AIDS and really truly is a member of the House of Lords despite what the House of Lords says. As a result I can only give him 0.3 timecubes. But don’t let that get you down, Monckey! Keep trying!

  • John Pieret

Um … Michael. I don’t think Ed was suggesting that he be mocked for his appearance (quite possibly due to Grave’s disease … but I am not a doctor) but because of the inanity of his “argument” that Obama is Satan because Monkton doesn’t like gays or the idea of anthropomorphic climate change.

  • Nemo

When they run out of human motives to “explain” why we hold the views we do, they almost have to turn to the supernatural (or concede the argument). This happens quite easily with the subject of climate change — they can try to project a conspiracy theory onto mainstream science, but it’s painfully obvious on which side the money lies. So what motivates us, if humans really aren’t responsible for climate change, and yet there’s no rational reason for us to argue that they are, if it isn’t so? Must be Satan.

@Michael Heath #1: Where did Ed (or anyone) say anything about Monckton’s appearance?

  • skylanetc

What did Ed say about his appearance, M. Heath ?

It doesn’t make any difference what Monckton looks like: he should be mocked everywhere what he says and does.

  • John Pieret

I tried using a Global Totalitarian Hard Left but my wife didn’t like it and wouldn’t talk to me for three days.

  • Loqi

Nice to see Modus got a job as a speechwriter. I literally teared up laughing at that.

  • Nemo

I mean, this is really the heart of so many “debates”. If you see the world as being a battleground of good vs. evil, angels vs. demons, then it’s all too natural and easy to dismiss your enemies as Satan’s tools. It’s a perfect argument stopper, and thought stopper. It’s the biggest reason why, as another Christopher once said, religion poisons everything.

In the real world, things happen for human reasons, or due to indifferent nature, or a combination of both (e.g. humans carelessly treat the atmosphere as a dumping ground, resulting in unintended but inexorable climate change, the result of natural processes following from our input). But it takes time to work out the real reasons for things, and effort, and above all, a willingness not to see “purpose” in everything that happens.

  • thebookofdave

He actually made that argument. In public. With a straight face.

Duh. He’s anti-gay. Of course he would make that argument with a straight (and bug-eyed) face. No offense meant to bugs.

Monckton is quote mining the bible. If you see a fundie quoting the bible, it is almost always either not there, or doesn’t mean what they say it does.

John 8 Jesus speaking to the Jews in Jerusalem:

39 “Abraham is our father,” they answered. (They being the Jews.)

“If you were Abraham’s children,” said Jesus, “then you would[c] do what Abraham did. 40 As it is, you are looking for a way to kill me, a man who has told you the truth that I heard from God. Abraham did not do such things. 41 You are doing the works of your own father.”

“We are not illegitimate children,” they protested. “The only Father we have is God himself.”

42 Jesus said to them, “If God were your Father, you would love me, for I have come here from God. I have not come on my own; God sent me. 43 Why is my language not clear to you? Because you are unable to hear what I say.

44 You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.

45 Yet because I tell the truth, you do not believe me! 46 Can any of you prove me guilty of sin? If I am telling the truth, why don’t you believe me? 47 Whoever belongs to God hears what God says. The reason you do not hear is that you do not belong to God.”

    1. If you want to believe the NT bible is true and not fiction, as Monckton does, then the true children of the devil are the Jews.

    2. This verse and a few others were the start of xian antisemitism. Xians quoted it often for 2,000 years and some still do.

    3. We all know the result. Nearly 2,000 years of persecution, assorted massacres, and forced relocations culminating in Martin Luther’s Final Solution carried out later by the Nazis.

So, according to Monckton the Children of Satan are the Hard Left, Obama, and the Jews.

According to most normal people, Monckton is the Child of Toxic Religion, Crackpottery, and a substandard mind.

I do wonder what Monckton’s views are of people like Reagan, who prevented the education and distribution of condoms that would have saved huge numbers of lives.

    Viscount of Brenchley:

Seldom have I seen so many half-truths, untruths and outright lies crammed into a single speech. For a line-by-line, lie-by-lie analysis, follow this link to my detailed analysis at Wattsupwiththat.com, the world’s most visited climate website, run by a real weatherman.

Yeah, yeah. Anthony Watts , real weatherman.

    Viscount of Brenchley:

In Britain, around 20-30,000 more people die in the winter months than at other times of year: further proof that it is cold, not warmth, that kills. In just one recent cold winter, there were 7,000 additional excess winter deaths. The extra deaths occurred not so much because the weather was cold as because their homes were cold. They could not afford to heat them.

The fact that wealthy British landlords (aided and abetted by poor laws Monckton favors) value money over lives does not exactly support the notion that fossil fuel caused global warming is harmless. Furthermore – the number of lives saved from cold by raising temperatures a few degrees is going to be utterly dwarfed by the tens of millions, or, if Monckton has his way, hundreds of millions of lives threatened by sea level rise.

Sure, but at least the water will be warmer.

Yeah, his comic ability peaked when he played Ygor in Young Frankenstein. He’s been pretty lame since.

Hey, ain’t none of us fond of the idea of anthropomorphic climate change, stomping around the planet yelling “me no like stable climate!”

  • StevoR

I am not surprised. Monckton is a birther too & has been for a while – see among other things here :

    http://www.stonekettle.com/2015/05/the-canary.html

Fifty five seconds in mark especially.

(If you haven’t already seen it, part II and indeed the rest of that youtube series is well worth watching too IMHON.)

Monckton is a flippin’ joke – does anyone really take him seriously?

Oh yeah, sadly some pitiful fools really do. Beats me why.

@18. Kermit Sansoo : Agreed kinda but perhaps its because that’s an ableist slur which doesn’t really apply. I don’t think its because Monckton has that low an IQ that he lies and bullshits as much and as badly as he does. If he was a technical moron he wouldn’t have the – however little and diminishing fast* – amount of influence and horridly misled audience that he does.

    * Is it me or are even the Plutonian right-wingers not trotting out this incredible (in both literal and metaphorical senses of that word) klown as much as they used to?

True that, and apologies to folks whose brains ares not swift and clever. The people I (we?) tend to despise on this blog seem morally culpable for their state. Raised Fundy, I could see that the people around me were lying to themselves, and in a sense honestly believing in stupid things. But they always seem to shy away from facts that challenge their beliefs, and value membership in their tribe more than moral behavior or truth. This is in some way related to an inability to do metaphors correctly, an intolerance for ambiguity, and an authoritarian preference for a list of rules rather than ethical principles (such as kindness). Is this simply an early childhood decision they made, and are unwilling to reconsider? Or perhaps their brains find honesty (introspection and refuting facts) more painful than I can imagine.

    .

Since I have always held the position that free will is usually an incoherent idea, I am condemning folks for things they have no control over. But of course, we react in various ways to social criticism, just as we react to pain, and sometimes improve our behavior for it. But that’s another, rather longer, thread.

TVMOB: The extra deaths occurred not so much because the weather was cold as because their homes were cold. They could not afford to heat them.

And in a heat wave, many of those who cannot afford air conditioners are at risk of death. What’s the toll in India’s current heat wave? It was 500, last I heard. How many died in Europe’s 2003 heat wave? IIRC, the figure was 35,000. I also recall that heat wave as being responsible for a 20 percent drop in crop yields.

Assessing the risks of hot and cold weather is complicated. Only a fool dismisses one temperature extreme as having negligible risk.

Didn’t the country from which “Lord” Monckton derives his so-called title legalize gay marriage by an Act of Parliament passed by a conservative government? What does that have to do with Obama?

  • chippanfire

    Why “so-called” title?
