Jeffress: Christians in America Like Jews Before the Holocaust

Again we have a Christian right leader making this staggeringly ridiculous claim that Christians in America today are being treated like the Jews in Nazi Germany before they were rounded up and slaughtered. I don’t know whether to chalk it up to stupidity, demagoguery or having lost all contact with reality.

“This isn’t imaginary. It’s real. And sure, it doesn’t rise to the level of having your head chopped off by ISIS in the Middle East, but it’s all the same attitude that allows for those attacks,” Jeffress said.

“I want to remind people that, you know, the Nazis weren’t able to take the Jews to the crematoriums immediately,” Jeffress said. “The German people wouldn’t have allowed for it. Instead, the Nazis had to change public opinion. They marginalized the Jewish people, disparaged them, and make them objects of contempt.”

Host Sean Hannity asked Jeffress whether Christians “are being marginalized the way Jews in Germany were.”

“Absolutely,” Jeffress said. “They are being marginalized right now. Treated as objects of contempt by the media and once that happens then the taking away of further rights will be very easy.”

Hey, you know who has actually been marginalized, disparaged and treated as objects of contempt in this country? Gay people. People like Jeffress have spent decades, centuries really, dehumanizing gay people as evil, demon-possessed and out to destroy everything good in the world, and when the rest of society says “nope, you’re full of shit and we aren’t going to let you oppress them anymore,” they climb up on their crosses and scream persecution

You know, I try to be thoughtful in my criticisms. I try to be restrained and reasonable and usually I can succeed. But I see and hear shit like this and I’m just done with it. I can’t be bothered to make some sort of nuanced argument. Anyone who believes this is a moronic asshole and they can fuck off forever. I’m done being polite in response to this kind of thing.

Despite the religious right’s constant attempts to undermine the Constitution, it won’t be easy to take away your rights as long as it and the ACLU are around.

Sure! Just look at the way the media treat Pope Francis — belittling and disparaging and lambasting and maligning and smearing and traducing and vilifying and I don’t know what all…

    Oh, wait…

He’s absolutely right. Why just the other day I saw the government rounding up a bunch of Christians, putting them into cattle cars and sending them off to concentration camps. Now the government was sneaky and dressed up as middle-class parents and the cattle car was disguised as a minivan, and the concentration camp was disguised as a suburb, but it was horrible!

“Ladies and Gentlemen, I was in Saigon, Mogadishu, and Baghdad, but I can say without hyperbole that when that slut on the internet called me a dirty name, it was 1 million times worse than all of those put together.”

Xtian logic: A little pushback is *exactly* the same as when the Nazis slaughtered millions of Jews, Romani, Slavic people, and Homosexuals.

Fuck you Xtians – all of you, right in your fucking persecuted necks.

Yeah, unlike today’s far more sensitive Christians. The ones who recommend Passion of the Christ to their friends as a fine romp. The ones who think only nativity scenes should be allowed to be put up around December 24th. The ones who like to pray in Jesus’ name before local school board meetings.

Wow. These overcooked Nazi analogies man. First, if you equate the US with Nazi Germany, don’t be mad if someone equates Boston with Dresden.

Second, get it right if you want to learn from history. Yes, the Nazis dehumanized the Jews. But they only started up the gas chambers after conquering large parts of Eastern Europe containing a large population of Jews. The German Jews were a small minority and not everyone could be cleansed, for instance Berlin never became “Judenrein” to Hitler’s chagrin, because too many German Jews were highly qualified arms workers that could not be replaced. The death camps were in Poland, not Germany. Most victims of the Holocaust were not from Germany, so there would be no cattle carts to behold for German citizens. The death camps were also secret, enforced by repression and censorship. The whole idea of ordinary Germans doing nothing while their neighbors went into the gas chambers is a flawed one. Most Germans knew bits and pieces of what went on, but few knew all, being unable to sort out true facts from wartime rumor. I get that it is impossible to inject rationality into a discussion about an emotionally supercharged topic like the Holocaust, but come on

Current population of the USA is right around 320 million. Over 70% of USAians identify as Christian.

We’re going to need a bigger oven.

    > “Treated as objects of contempt…”

If you are contemptible, how else should the rest of us treat you?

Yeah, but only about 27% are True Christians®.

So does the good reverend think that gas chambers are coming soon? That doesn’t sound environmentally friendly. Although I guess xians don’t care about the planet’s future that much since their carpenter/rabbi/god is coming back soon to take them away to their eternal Calgon bath in the sky

How staggeringly stupid must one be to believe this hocus-pocus???

Or maybe its a ploy that gives him the opportunity to charge higher appearance fees.

    * Right-wingers will pay extra as the hyperbole increases.

    * Left-wingers will pay just as much to laugh at the silly bastard.

And he sits between them saying, “Show me the money.”

Don’t be ridiculous. They’ll be consumed in solar thermal power plants, and their exhaust gases and ashes captured for biochar sequestration.

For the Christian Capitalists – most of the Fundie spokesmen – this is true.
