Robertson: Miscarried Baby Might Have Been Hitler or Stalin

I‘ve been quoting and criticizing Pat Robertson for a very long time and it’s obvious that the man just gets more bizarre with age. I don’t know if it’s senility setting in or what, but the 700 Club staff must just cringe when he answers an email from a viewer. This one is just jaw-dropping:

Today on “The 700 Club,” a viewer asked host Pat Robertson what she should say to a coworker who asked her, “Why did God allow my baby to die?”…

As far as God’s concerned, he knows the end from the beginning and He sees a little baby and that little baby could grow up to be Adolf Hitler, he could grow up to be Joseph Stalin, he could grow up to be some serial killer, or he could grow up to die of a hideous disease,” Robertson said. “God sees all of that, and for that life to be terminated while he’s a baby, he’s going to be with God forever in Heaven so it isn’t a bad thing.”

Yeah, God intervenes to prevent the rise of people like Adolf Hitler or Josef Stalin. That’s easily proven by the fact that Hitler and Stalin fucking existed, as do people who grow up to tide of a hideous disease or to be serial killers. Seriously, there are millions of people who watch this dumbass and take him seriously when he says things this fucking stupid. And of course, if you were to make that same argument in favor of abortion, he would accuse you of being demon-possessed or something. Just fucking stupid.

This is overly harsh. God killed all of Hitler’s older siblings in infancy. Just be thankful that the Nazis weren’t led by Gustav or Otto Hitler. Also, He should at least get partial credit for giving Stalin smallpox.

“…that little baby could grow up to be Adolf Hitler, he could grow up to be Joseph Stalin, he could grow up to be some serial killer…”

That will make the woman who miscarried feel so much better. What a ginormous douche Robertson is.

So heaven’s full of miscarried Hitlers?

  • raven

This doesn’t explain why god let Hitler, Stalin, or George Bush be born.

Was a he sick those days or on vacation? Or did he just feel like messing with the ants in his ant farm?

  • frankgturner

    @ MO

Yes that’s exactly it. Beware heaven for it is a hell filled with misscarried Hitlers and Stalins.

    .

As far as Robertson getting more bizarre with age, he was bizarre a long time ago. Now he is ultra bizzaro.

  • John Pieret

Let’s just hope that viewer is smarter than to actually say such a thing to her coworker.

  • eric

or he could grow up to die of a hideous disease

This one doesn’t get the fanfare of the Hitler reference but IMO there’s so much more wrong with it. About 30% of the population will get some sort of life-threatening cancer during their lifetime. Pat’s saying God should just execute those people right now, before they live their potentially long and fulfilling lives? And what of the families of adults killed by such diseases – “sorry, since your mother/sister/daughter wasn’t killed by god at childbirth in favor of a life in heaven, I guess we all know where she is now, eh?”

And, of course, there’s the classic: If God’s going to reach down and intervene in this baby’s life, why not just prevent the frakking disease rather than killing the baby?

Gawd is the ultimate abusive Dad, whatever fucked-up thing Gawd does, it’s for your own good, and it’s your fault anyway.

I do wonder if this mummy might be actually delusional at this point, but what’s worse is the “Good Xtian” lady that’s going to pass this mummy’s oh-so-loving homily on to that grieving mother.

  • erichoug

So wait, if god is the author of all things then didn’t he create baby Hitler? And if he created baby Hitler then why did he need to kill baby Hitler.

Sorry, does not compute any way you slice it.

Or the baby could have grown up to be a grinning buffoon of a televangelist. The horror!

God didn’t make his saving throw those days.

Ed, you probably don’t read this but it was a three year old child, not a miscarriage. As you’d have seen if you merely read the RWW article you pulled the video from.

Simple factual errors like this on skeptical/liberal blogs bug the heck out of me. It reduces credibility.

    Trebuchet “It reduces credibility.”

    Hey! That’s my job!

Well, people, what do you want God to do when there’s a QA issue with a fetus? It’s not like there’s any way to ensure that all of those little innocents get a good draw on the genetic lottery or anything.

  • llewelly

Belief in omnipotence requires this kind of nonsense.

  • howardhershey

Given the number of people we put in prison for gun crimes as well as the existence of actual Hitler and actual Stalin (the paranoid right wing would add Obama, who will become the next [Hitler, Stalin, Muslim or lizard overlord]), Robertson’s God is not up to the job of culling the herd with any accuracy or efficiency. Must be the Peter Principle in action.

eric@7 why not just prevent the frakking disease rather than killing the baby?

My wife recently had brain surgery at an Adventist hospital. Before we set the appointment, I asked the surgeon if they would provide blood if it became necessary. He actually didn’t know what I was talking about!

But, specifically with respect to Eric’s comment, the hospital had this cheesy print all over the place. It was set in an operating room, all the nurses and doctors in their scrubs, the surgeon with blood on his hands, reaching into the surgical site. Standing to the surgeon’s side, in his bedouin robe, his ungloved hand on the surgeon’s shoulder, apparently providing direction and support, was Jesus. I don’t really know what the hospital administration was trying to portray with this poster, but all I could think was why the hell was Jesus just standing there? Couldn’t he just reach in and take care of the damned problem?

  • dingojack

eoraptor – Jesus can’t do the surgery directly — he doesn’t have the motor control – god moves in mysterious ways his wonders to perform…

    dingojack,

Hmm… Hadn’t thought about that. But, yeah, zombies are usually very uncoordinated, aren’t they.

  • Sastra

So Robertson is advising his viewer to tell the mother of a three year old child that it’s perfectly possible and even credible that God allowed her child to die because He saw signs that the toddler was going to grow up to be a mass murderer or serial killer? Yes, that’s no doubt the way the parents remember their kid, who was always torturing animals and was well known for being a nasty brute of a three year old.

This is just awful on so many levels …

Yeah, if Satan could yank out all of John Constantine’s aggressive lung-cancer cells with just his hands, you’d think Jesus could reach in and pull out a bullet or a tumor here and there too.

  • D. C. Sessions

But, yeah, zombies are usually very uncoordinated, aren’t they.

Depends on how long they’ve been decaying. After a few years, well …

Which reminds — how does infection control work, anyway?

Is this the part where Robertson’s asshole-ness becomes so dense that he collapses into a singularity of vileness? Because I feel like that is about the only appropriate follow-up.

  • peterh

    @ #24:

I have every confidence that Robertson will continue finding new dimensions of stupid and callousness.

  • sigurd jorsalfar

But otherwise, Pat’s still against abortion, right?
