Fischer: We Should Ban ‘Gay Propaganda’ Like Russia Does

More amusing hypocrisy from Bryan Fischer. Why, just yesterday he was railing about how Christians are losing their First Amendment rights. Today, he’s demanding that speech that is in favor of LGBT equality be made against the law. Because he loves free speech, right up until he doesn’t.

“We ought to be doing exactly the same thing with homosexuality,” he said. “That’s what Russia is doing. You can’t propagandize youth in Russia because they don’t want the youth of Russia to grow up thinking this is a normal alternative to heterosexuality. And homosexuality is not even against the law in Russia, just like smoking is not against the law in America but we do the same thing; we do not allow the propagandizing of America’s young to think that there is something glamorous and exciting and healthy about cigarette smoking.”

“If we’re going to be concerned across the board about human health, then we ought to have exactly the same concern for people that are considering going into the homosexual lifestyle,” he continued. “Let’s talk them out of it. Let’s persuade them against it. Let’s refuse to allow our young people to be propagandized in preschool, in kindergarten, in elementary school into thinking this behavior is normal. In teenagers, let’s not let them be propagandized, let’s not have gay-straight alliance clubs on our high school campuses.”

Bryan Fischer is like the Humpty Dumpty of bigotry, declaring that the First Amendment means whatever he wants it to mean at any given moment, neither more nor less.

we ought to have exactly the same concern for people that are considering going into the homosexual lifestyle

So, homosexuality is a “lifestyle” but, according to Fishey, heterosexuality isn’t:

If the man ever had a self-consistent thought, it would probably kill him.

But, as Ed is fond of pointing out, if disease is your real worry then to be consistent the government should talk young women into lesbianism. I can see the ad campaign now:

    “This is your brain.”

    [Whack the egg]

“This is your brain on boys.”

In reality, it’s homophobes like Fischsticks who are responsible for health problems for LGBT people. Prejudice and discrimination make it harder for people to seek help, or to find people who are willing to help them. I remember seeing an article about health disparities in LGBT people shrinking to almost the level for heterosexuals, but I can’t seem to find the article right now.

What would he and his viewers say if you switched “homosexuality” with “gun ownership” in that statement? The second amendment protects the right to own guns, not the right to “propagandiz[e] [ ] America’s young to think that there is something glamorous and exciting and healthy about” gun ownership.

Of course Fischer believes there are no people born gay, because his god is too weak to have created us, so we all got convinced somehow to go against our true natures and have the icky man/man sex. Thus having GSAs in high schools is not about supporting the LGBT kids who are already there, but a nefarious plot to lure more children into our lust-filled lifestyle. He wants to make sure the schools are free of such influences so he and his fellow travelers can indoctrinate them into Christianity instead.

Does he also want America to follow Russia by making the Russian Orthodox Church the go to religion on any issue? They’re not fans of Fischer’s brand of Christianity.

    Canadian Yankee @ 20:

As a long time partisan at talk.origins, I was aware of claims of no rain before the Flud. Asked how plants grew then, they usually point to the reference in Genesis to mist on the ground and, in conjunction with the “water canopy,” that was sufficient to water all the plants.

Of course, they can’t explain how light shining through mist won’t create rainbow relatives called glorioles.

And homosexuality is not even against the law in Russia, just like smoking is not against the law in America but we do the same thing; we do not allow the propagandizing of America’s young to think that there is something glamorous and exciting and healthy about cigarette smoking

No, we don’t do the same thing as Russia. Russia has a blanket prohibition on all individuals speaking their own views on homosexuality. The laws against cigarette ads apply (1) only to businesses, not private individuals, and (2) only to smoking ads that clearly target children, not those that target adults.

I’m not saying Bryan Fischer is gay or bisexual himself. I’m just saying that people who really think being gay is a choice may not be aware that most people didn’t have to choose to be straight.
