Oklahoma Dumbasses Show Obama the Confederate Flag

President Obama gave a speech in Oklahoma Wednesday night and a bunch of local rednecks decided it was the perfect opportunity to fly their Confederate flags to “show the president some southern heritage.” So they all got gussied up in their finest Marlboro t-shirts and put their flags on their pickup trucks. Here’s video of the planners, who had no idea when he was even going to be there:

Now here’s what I find amusing about this. Oklahoma did not exist at the time of the Civil War. They had nothing at all to do with the Confederacy. That land was settled by white people, taking the land from Native Americans of course, decades after the war and it became a state in 1907. But they’re showing their “pride” in something they had nothing to do with. Strike a pose, there’s nothing to it.

    No Ed,

It is part of their heritage. Mostly burning down the black side of Tulsa, but still HERITAGE

Now here’s what I find amusing about this. Oklahoma did not exist at the time of the Civil War.

The territory that was to become OK was one in which slavery was allowed prior to the civil war. Wikipedia notes that in 1860 it had “a population of 55,000 Indians, 8,400 black slaves owned by Indians, and 3000 whites.” Furthermore, most of the biggest tribes in the territory signed alliance treaties with the Confederacy.

So, given that they weren’t really a state, they were still as confederate in spirit as they could be.

They need Loser Flag tattoos right smack in the middle of their foreheads, something that can’t be hidden away when the ‘heritage’ becomes inconvenient.

When I think Oaklahoma history I think of Tom Joad, Roseasharn(sp?) and family from the Grapes of Wrath. An absolute classic and very powerful pro-socialist story. Echoes well today but back then even more apocalyptic in feel. Just how close Steinbeck’s novel was to the real history I am not exactly sure .. But if so, a big partof Okalahoma story is very much politically anti-right-wing and pro-Left-wing – much further left than Obama.

    Also there’s the musical!

I tried to read it long ago, but that freakin’ turtle interminably crossing the road that constituted about every second chapter made it tough slogging.

Perhaps these knuckleheads were claiming to be descendants of Creek, Choctaw, Chickasaws, Cherokees or Seminoles. All these tribes had been forced into the territory that was called Oklahoma, and owned black slaves. They signed a neutrality pact with the C.S.A. around 1861.

How many times do they have to tell you, Ed? It’s not a symbol of hate!

@ ^ Saad : Just ask the people in that Charleston church massacre. Or their surviving, grieving family members.

” Oklahoma did not exist at the time of the Civil War. ”

Sure it did, just read any history book by Barton.

There is only one chapter about the turtle, and it is three pages in length.

What Eric and Dingo said … and continuing up to today. Google “black Cherokees.”

StevoR, attacking black churches is just another way of celebrating Southern Culture. And anyway, it’s all you Democrats’ fault, because things haven’t changed since the Civil so-called “Rights” Movement, which I was for, except for the Civil Rights part, but not in a racist way, and also MLK was a Conservative Republican.

Plus, if you people didn’t stand in the way of the Second Amendment, those black churchgoers could’ve shot back, and the police wouldn’t need an excuse like a busted taillight to shoot them afterwards, when all those urban (*wink wink*) thug (*wink wink*) gangbangers (*wink wink*) tried to flee the scene, and following that, us Hard Working, Tax Paying, Moral Americans could lament the terrible violence that plagues our city’s inner cities (*wink wink*), ask why the Liberal Media never covers black-on-white incidents like this, and advocate a crack down with Tough on Crime positions for Law and Order.

    It’s win-win-win!

And in Petersburg, VA, local yokels drove through a black neighborhood in a parade of pickup trucks and SUVs displaying large Confederate flags. I don’t think the outcome was exactly what they were aiming for.

Eric and Dingo are spot on. To this day, Oklahoma flies two Confederate flags, by law, in honor of the tribesmen who fought for the CSA.

For some bizarre reason, tribesmen loyal to the Union are accorded no such honor.

  • janiceclanfield

Please keep in mind that the the “stars and bars” was the confederates second-to-last flag.

    Their last flag was white.

  • dingojack

Although I should say that some of the Black people in what would become Oklahoma were free, others were runaway slaves from the much more brutal white-run plantation system on the coastal plains…

    A short musical interlude.

Petition garners 40,000 signatures demanding removal of South Carolina slave memorial because it’s totally offensive like the Confederate flag.

What I find interesting is that so many of the vehicles boldly flying the flag of traitors, slavers, and murderers, are also flying USA flag. So, somehow, flying the flag that commemorates treason against the USA makes them better murikans?

Further to that, in the video the woman speaking in the video is wearing a t-shirt which is part of the American flag. You can see another woman in the background also wearing the same shirt. Schizophrenia?

Quite. I always want to ask them exactly which side they would have root for. It’s like going to a baseball game wearing one team’s jersey and the other team’s cap. But then, these guys are fucking idiots, after all.
