Huckabee Jumps on the Godwin Train

All of the Republican candidates are railing against the deal with Iran, though none of them have tried to make a specific or coherent argument against it. So what does a candidate do when they can’t get any traction in the race? Mike Huckabee goes full Godwin over it:

In a wide ranging interview with Breitbart editor-in-chief Alexander Marlow, the former Arkansas governor left no doubt about how he feels about the president and his foreign policies, calling them “feckless,” before dropping the inflammatory bombshell “oven” comment invoking Nazi concentration camps and the “Final Solution.”

“This president’s foreign policy is the most feckless in American history. It is so naive that he would trust the Iranians,” Huckabee said. “By doing so, he will take the Israelis and march them to the door of the oven. This is the most idiotic thing — this Iran deal. It should be rejected by both Democrats and Republicans in Congress and by the American people. I read the whole deal. We gave away the whole store. It’s got to be stopped.”

You know who else used wild exaggerations and hyperbole to fuel his political career? Hitler. #BOOM

Donald Trump apparently agrees with him:

On Monday, Michael Cohen, campaign manager for Republican 2016 front-runner Donald Trump said on CNN that he agrees with Huckabee’s assessment that the current U.S. nuclear deal with Iran “will take the Israelis and march them to the door of the oven.”

Cohen — who serves as “special counsel to Donald Trump” — was a guest on CNN’s New Day with Chris Cuomo.

“Does Donald Trump think it was wrong and offensive?” Cuomo asked, about the governor’s choice of metaphor.

“I don’t think so,” Cohen replied. “I think what he’s really trying to say here is that we’re really in a bad place.”

“He’s okay with these words?” said Cuomo. “‘March Israelis to the door of the oven?’”

“Because we’ve been there,” Cohen said. “My father was a Holocaust survivor and I can tell you, there’s that old statement, ‘Never again.’ What Trump is trying to say is that a nuclear Iran is the destruction of this world.”

The destruction of the world! The entire world, people! The only question is which will destroy the world first, the Iran deal or gay marriage?

Huckabee, a man who belongs to a branch of Christianity that views Jews as Christkillers, would force Jews to pray to Jesus in public schools and if he had his way would likely force them to convert to Christianity, has the gall to use a Holocaust comparison? Seriously? What a fuckhead. (Not to mention my pet peeve of equating Israel and Judaism.)

  • blf

[W]hich will destroy the world first, the Iran deal or gay marriage?

Dunno, but there is prior art: What did the dinosaurs do?

  • http://en.uncyclopedia.co/wiki/User:Modusoperandi Modusoperandi

They’re right. A nucular Iran is the destruction of this world. That’s why we have to stop this deal that makes it harder for them to get The Bomb.

  • Saad

Is this the same Huckabee who just recently got on stage and proudly revealed his desire of going into teenage girls’ showers by lying about his gender identity?

  • Saad

The only question is which will destroy the world first, the Iran deal or gay marriage?

Well, the two are working in unison. Remember, there are no gay people in Iran. This is because they’ve sent them all out to commence phase I.

  • http://motherwell.livejournal.com/ Raging Bee

That’s funny, Stalin was almost as anti-Jewish as Hitler, and letting him get the bomb didn’t march anyone “to the door of the oven.” And that historically anti-Jewish regime got far more nukes than Iran is ever likely to get. What the fuck is so special about the Iranians all of a sudden?

  • blf

What the fuck is so special about the Iranians all of a sudden?

    Mr Obama.

He could say “the sky is blue” and the thugs would throw an epic temper tantrum.

    (And BENGHAZI !)

  • Pierce R. Butler

… which will destroy the world first, the Iran deal or gay marriage?

Watch out for those trick questions, people! The answer is – BENGHAZI!!1!

  • culuriel

The closest thing to an argument against this agreement for inspections has been that we “…can’t trust Iran”. Yes, the country that we: carried out a coup against in 1953, ruled by vicious, oppressive proxy for 26 years after, and shot down a civilian aircraft from in the 80s, is the country that can’t be trusted. There is an argument against this agreement, and it’s that Iran shouldn’t trust us.

  • busterggi

Oh for the good-old, pre-Putin, days when the Rethugs used to say this about negociating with Russia.

  • D. C. Sessions

What the fuck is so special about the Iranians all of a sudden?

We have lots of military assets already deployed nearby and need to remind everyone in the neighborhood just what kind of trash-talking bullies we are so they don’t get any ideas.

    Yawn.

OT, but I was just listening to David Barton’s “Wallbuilders” podcast and he had Everett Piper from Oklahoma Weslyan University claiming the anti-gay Xians should use the quotes of gay people against them. His best, from Gore Vidal:

“Actually, there is no such thing as a homosexual person, any more than there is such a thing as a heterosexual person. The words are adjectives describing sexual acts, not people.”

He seemed to think he had made a telling point, claiming, in effect, that “a famous gay guy said that it’s an act, and not part of your essence as a human being.”

But he left out the rest of the passage:

“The sexual acts are entirely normal; if they were not, no one would perform them.”

  • grumpyoldfart

I wonder how the historians will remember Obama. Will they soberly consider his actual presidency, or will the ratbag Christians influence their opinions.

  • jnorris

I understand what Mr Huckabee meant, he really wants to protect Israel. He wants to protect Israel from Iranian nuclear bombs not out of some humanitarian concern, but to preserve Israel and the Jews for Armageddon when Jesus will murder the whole lot of them for not converting to TruChristianity ™.

Mr Huckabee has to go full evangelical because that’s the only base he has. When he loses in the Tea Party primaries he will organize his own mega-church (SuperPAC) and get a private jet or two.

  • raven

    We can’t trust Iran?

Well, who among the nuclear bomb states can we trust.

North Korea. Russia, France. Pakistan, India, Israel. Red China. South Africa, a former nuclear bomb state.

It wouldn’t be a good idea to trust any of them too far. Perhaps trust the UK the most and hope they don’t want their North American colony back. (I’m sure they would take one look at our Republican candidates and threaten to bomb us if we go for reunificaiton.) I don’t see anyone lining up to trust Russia, Pakistan, or North Korea.

Our nuclear strategy isn’t built on trust. It’s built on Second Strike Capability and MAD, Mutual Assured Destruction.

  • dukeofomnium

I can’t blame Huckabee much. He’s having to work extra hard to outcrazy the current crop of GOP presidential hopefuls, and even his wingnuttiest talking points are being co-opted.

His argument might be remotely compelling if anyone with sense gave a damn what happened to that Middle Eastern apartheid state.

  • StevoR

@ ^ Knight in Sour Armor : Israel is a democracy and makes no distinction as to skin colour – everyone there can vote.

There are Jewish people of every skin colour on the planet and all of them are welcome in the world’s one, only and tiny state.

Also its ‘South West Asia’ not the eurocentric Americocentric anti-anarcho-syndicalitsy-non-trotskyite-non-Linenist-Marixts -ist -ist “middle east” (“Splitter!”)

Basically and humour aside, “apartheid”? Israel? Ya gotta be joking but it sure ain’t funny. NO.

@15. grumpyoldfart : “I wonder how the historians will remember Obama. Will they soberly consider his actual presidency, or will the ratbag Christians influence their opinions.”

I think those ratbag Christians are already heading for history’s dustbin right alongside the Bolsheviks and Mensheviks and other nuts and fringe extremists.

I expect Obama will be remembered for many things most of them positive. He’ll be remembered as the first black president of the USA, the man who got Osama bin Laden, the man who got Obamacare and equal marriage through and a whole lot more. On the downside, he”ll be remembered for pulling troops out of Iraq too early and for a continued decline in the US internationally leaving it weaker not stronger in global influence and for being the POTUS who oversaw the end of the Space Shuttle without an immediate replacement* and who left the USA relying on Russia to get to the International Space Station that it helped to build after killing off the Constellation program despite its first successful flight.* He’ll also be the POTUS who saw us get our first images of Pluto and Ceres and Churyumov-Gerasimenko comet. I don’t think he’ll be remembered as the greatest POTUS ever but certainly won’t be among the worst either.

    @16. jnorris :

He wants to protect Israel from Iranian nuclear bombs not out of some humanitarian concern, but to preserve Israel and the Jews for Armageddon when Jesus will murder the whole lot of them for not converting to TruChristianity

Yes. However, it is true that at least evangelicals here are supporting the correct ethical side and standing with Israel ratehr than bashing it.

I guess the Left, OTOH, *is* overwhelmingly supporting Israel out of humanitarian concern? Oh wait, a lot of the an”anti-(*Cough*)”Zionist”(Cough) Left is demonsing Israel for having the temerity to defend itself when far right-wing Islamists fire rockets at its civilians. Yeah, that’s so very much better – not!

    * This is spot on I reckon :

“We had our hands on spaceships and we learned how to make them increasingly safer and then Washington pulled the plug. … We won’t have the ability to put an American on the space station, in an American rocket, for at least a decade,” he says. He doesn’t hide his disappointment with President Barack Obama. “We all knew for years that the Shuttle program had a sunset but Constellation was supposed to provide human access to the space station. When Obama cancelled Constellation, he cancelled the pride that every American should have in our accomplishments. One half of one percent of the federal budget funds NASA and they can’t afford this program?”

    – Gregory Cecil, Space Shuttle tile technician quoted on page 47, “Throttle down” article in ‘Air & Space’ magazine, Nov 2010.

  • StevoR

    @ ^ Er, corretion that’s :

“There are Jewish people of every skin colour on the planet and all of them are welcome in the world’s one, only and tiny Jewishstate.

There are, of course, no end of other states in the world a lot of Arab and Muslim ones particularly.

@12. Synfandel : “What? No calls for mass murder from colnagoberger yet? How disappointing!”

Seems you sure miss him when he isn’t here don’t you! Blog wouldn’t be the same without him and without the odd dissenting voice would it?

If you really want calls for mass murder you could always issue them yourself although I don’t ‘spose you have that inclination – & nor do I!

  • StevoR

^ Not that there’s anything wrong with having Arab and Muslim states per se.

Just there are an awful lot of them and a lot of them , we-ell, let’s be honest, leave an awful lot to be desired when it comes to human rights and freedoms and being nice happy places for everyone to live. Hopefully that’ll change and these Muslim nations will reform and improve and become better over time just as individual people can likewise reform and change and become better over time.

Not that there’s anything wrong with having Arab and Muslim states per se.

There is plenty wrong with Muslim states per se, just as there’d be plenty wrong with Christian states. They’re theocratic and necessarily oppressive.

  • matty1

There’s nothing wrong with having states where the majority happen to be Arab and/or Muslim but there is something wrong with building a nation state around religious identity.

  • matty1

Here are some question I really don’t know the answer to. What nation are inhabitants of the West Bank and Gaza citizens of? What influence do they have on the government of that nation and how?

  • Knight in Sour Armor

I’m not joking in the least. The Israeli government (and the whiteys that run it) are the ones in a position of power to screw over the brown people in their state, and don’t think that the non-white Jewish and Christian groups are treated the same as the guys in charge here. They’ve also got nukes, great military hardware, and one of the best armed forces in the region if not the world.

If they’re marching off to any ovens that’ll be their own fault at this point, ‘cuz it’s not like they don’t have the means to stop it.

  • colnago80

The State of Israel is the only country in the Middle East where Muslims are not engaged in killing each other and where Christians have at least some degree of safety.
