Professional con man Rick Joyner clearly has no idea how our government works. Okay, so the list of things he has no idea about is pretty much endless. But his latest ignorant screed, this time about the courts issuing injunctions against Trump’s travel ban, shows that he’s totally clueless about the government.
“This is essentially a coup,” Joyner said in his latest video. “It’ll go to the Supreme Court and I think they will overwhelmingly override this because it is so absolutely unconstitutional what this district court judge and the Ninth Circuit did. But if they don’t, if they vote along political lines instead of mooring themselves to the Constitution, to the clear law that was passed by Congress, we are [going to find ourselves in] a constitutional crisis, I would say a constitutional civil war. And it’s not going to be North versus South, it’s going to be those who believe that we’re a republic and we must defend the republic against enemies both foreign and domestic and those we are trying to rule by fiat.”
Joyner said that he has been warning that martial law is coming to America since he “saw that prophetically in 1987” and now “it’s unfolding right before our eyes, we really are in a constitutional crisis.”
The implementation of martial law will actually be a good thing, Joyner asserted, because “it will be done to preserve our democracy, to preserve our republic and it will be executed by those who that is their goal; not to destroy our republic, not to just seize power but to do what absolutely has to be done to get us back on the constitutional rails we’ve been given to run on.”
So you were warned about it 30 years ago, but now suddenly you’re cheering for it because you think courts striking down executive orders — which they haven’t even done yet, only issued temporary restraining orders while the full cases can be heard — is a “coup.” And martial law is good because it will stick it to those who want to rule by fiat (okay, that’s freaking hilarious). Funny, I don’t remember you making that argument when Obama was in office. Of course, the truth is that this is exactly what the courts are supposed to do, act as a check on unlawful actions by the other two branches of government.
The Supreme Court may well uphold the second version of the travel ban when it eventually reaches them. We have no way of knowing. But even if they don’t, that will not be a “coup” — you keep using that word… — it will be the courts doing their constitutional duty.
