Republican: People With Preexisting Conditions Should Pay More

Republican Congressman Mo Brooks says that people with preexisting conditions should have to pay more for health insurance, as opposed to “people who lead good lives” who have “done the things to keep their bodies healthy.” Because obviously every health problem is the patient’s fault, amirite?

In an interview with Brooks, CNN’s Jake Tapper noted the new House GOP bill fails to deliver on the president’s promise.

“This new legislation would allow states to opt-out, and allow insurance companies to refuse to sell insurance to people with pre-existing conditions, as long as there’s some set-up for them,” Tapper explained in an interview with Brooks, asking if the president “did he not understand what was in the bill.”

“That’s not my understanding of the way the bill has been reframed,” Brooks said of the president’s characterization. “My understanding is that is that it will allow insurance companies to require people who have higher healthcare costs to contribute more.”

Brooks added that the new bill “[reduces] the cost to people who lead good lives, they’re healthy, they’ve done the things to keep their bodies healthy, and right now, those are the people who’ve done things the right way.”

Exactly! Like the child with asthma, who just hasn’t done what it takes to have good health. Or the elderly person suffering from prostate cancer, or the woman who has breast cancer (probably because she had a bunch of abortions, dontchaknow). And all those diabetics who just haven’t made the effort to have their pancreases create insulin, the lazy SOBs. And I think we’re all just sick and tired of hearing about children with leukemia, aren’t we? If they can’t be troubled to keep themselves healthy, why should we help them?

This is like some godawful medical version of the Just World Theory, where everyone gets the health problems they deserve. It’s absolutely vile and twisted.
